Anybody want to hazard a guess what it is? I feel a bit sick Envy

@GeorgeandHarold66 that sounds like the reaction I would have. And then the fishing it out for classification purposes. I’ve been there. My son is thinking about drawing up an insect chart for us to refer to as we are always in a panic about something we have found. The things in food are the worst though. Yours looks like some sort of food. Best to think like that anyway. Then get the bin bag outside.

SpeakingFranglais · 29/04/2021 19:25

This is grim, I’m utterly appalled, but in true MN style I do actually make my own sauce now and freeze it. Two cans of tomatoes make tonnes of the stuff.

I digress, I have bought pasta sauce hundreds of times in the past so no perfect Boden dressed MNetter here.

What I want to know is what brand it was. Please tell me it wasn’t Lloyd Grossman’s (although the name would be appropriate).

Loyaultemelie · 29/04/2021 19:25

Fuck me I really wish I had opened this before I ate.
Whatever it is it needs to be sent for scientific analysis so we all know if it's safe to buy pasta sauce again

GeorgeandHarold66 · 29/04/2021 19:26

@muffindays

OP you must send it back to the manufacturer with a big complaint!! You will get reimbursed hopefully with added extras!
Off to do that now, will let you know if I get a reply although if they compensate me with free sauce I can't say I'm all that keen.

Complain LOUDLY to the seller, & threaten them with HSE & Trading Standards.

AwkwardArnottDentonFumble · 29/04/2021 19:27

Shamelessly marking place to see what their reply will be! What will they think it is?!

Maddox33 · 29/04/2021 19:28

It's a baby alien and it will double then treble in size over the next hour, grow horns, hooves and big spiky teeth, eat everything edible in the house, then it will quadruple in size then eat your family pets and then you. Please set up a video camera and record this, it will make you millions. Posthumously obviously because you will have been devoured.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 29/04/2021 19:30

Hmmm.... there was going to be broccoli with it if that helps at all?

'Fraid not - I loathe and detest broccoli Wink

Joking aside, I still think it's a sundried tomato though; the black side could be because seeds got stuck to it and it got over-charred?

CarmelBeach · 29/04/2021 19:31

This is what MN is all about. 😂😂😂😂
lms2017 · 29/04/2021 19:31

Mouldy mushroom.

SwanShaped · 29/04/2021 19:31

That is fucking rank. Looks like tiny frogspawn on the top.

JustAddCoffee91 · 29/04/2021 19:32

It looks like a turtle 🤢

muffindays · 29/04/2021 19:32

I would expect that they will ask you to retain and send the offending item to them for testing!! So don't throw it away.

Be VERY angry and if they refuse to adequately compensate threaten to put it all over social media.

Whatever it is it looks vile!!

muffindays · 29/04/2021 19:33

What are in the sauce ingredients list OP!?

ShrinkingViolet9 · 29/04/2021 19:33

Burnt piece of pasta?

Is that tan coloured substance underneath the black stuff sauce or part of the object?

GeidiPrimes · 29/04/2021 19:33

Oh, and please ignore the suggestions about taking a knife to the thing, OP - that'll just annoy it
Haha! Grin

abstractzebra · 29/04/2021 19:34

Just send it back to the address on the jar or email pictures and they will probably identify it straight away.
I worked in the canning/jarred food industry for over 30 years and we saw some weird stuff.
I think it looks like a bit of really burnt tomato from the top but the underside is a bit of a mystery!

CandyLeBonBon · 29/04/2021 19:35

🤢🤮
I have nothing else useful to add, and I'm kicking myself for not simply scrolling!

ShrinkingViolet9 · 29/04/2021 19:37

Mouldy tomato skin?

Leah2005 · 29/04/2021 19:38

I reckon sun dried tomato

Malin52 · 29/04/2021 19:38

It looks like a scoby. The kind that you make Kombucha from. Essentially when there's the right mix of bacteria, yeast, lactic acid it can create fermentation and a wee scoby. Probably the tomatoes/vinegar has set off reaction

It looks just like one and as soon as you said 'jelly like' it reminded me of a scoby. They are horrible to look at, thick jelly like

DobbyTheHouseElk · 29/04/2021 19:38

Yuck. Complain and see if they can explain.

Arrowheart · 29/04/2021 19:39

What brand is it?

SisterAgatha · 29/04/2021 19:39

That’s nothing. I once found a TOE NAIL in a tin of sainsburys own spaghetti. Well not even in the spaghetti, it was already in my mouth...

Sainsburys were pretty much like, yeah so? I think they gave me the price of the tin back in the end and that was it.

Magicpaintbrush · 29/04/2021 19:41

I would really really really like to know what brand of pasta sauce this is - so I can avoid it forever more...
