I don't think I'll read the whole thread and suggestions even though I really want to know what it is.

Its a mouldy beetle, toad hot water bottle, poo housed in a vagina with a face...have I missed anything oh yes old mice from the olden days and possbly part canerous gall bladder covered in spider eggs

Send it off for DNA testing, it's the only way. Pop it in a jar and post it to a lab at the local uni.

It looks like an old bit of mould to me. The one on the right of this photo looks similar, but lighter. The seal on the jar was probably already broken...

It's horrifying. It belongs in the bin with the rest of the jar. Instead it's been washed, photographed and discussed at length - it'll be demanding it's own dressing room soon.
