Any Swifties out there?

Taylor Swift.

Her new albums I think are just amazing. Best ones I've listened to in a few years.

My favourite songs are exile from folklore and tolerate it from evermore. They really hit home because I've had similar issues with past relationships.

Anyone else ? Whenever I mention to my friends that Taylor is my new favourite artist I get funny looks!

I'm a Taytay widow Grin DH is always listening to her. He was very excited by his pink vinyl Lover album!

Xiaoxiong · 29/04/2021 10:53

Gosh I was just saying to DH on a walk the other day that neither of us had ever listened to Taylor Swift and maybe we were completely out of touch! The only song either of us recognised of hers was the one at the end of that cartoon film Sing called "shake it off" (thanks DCs for watching that on repeat a couple of years ago). I feel like I need to give her music a listen now!

amusedbush · 29/04/2021 12:31

I’m surprised and saddened to see how many people don’t rate Lover! I think it’s a great album and listened to it on repeat when it first came out. I put it on when I went for a walk last week and can’t help but turn up the volume for I Think He Knows Grin

IheartJKR · 29/04/2021 13:48

@amusedbush

I love Lover!

Also love your username Grin

CarmelBeach · 29/04/2021 13:52

@KeepSmiling89

I'm a Swifty here but went off her albums after 1989. Lover was OK as well but too many slow and depressing songs now. She used to have a better range of songs IMHO.
Yes. i think 1989 and Reputation were the best.

There are wonderful songs after that, yes. I just feel that Folklore and Evermore are quite samey. They're background music. 1989 and Reputation, I can't concentrate on anything else while they are on.

I think her whole career to date is a huge achievement.

Carmel I don't know! What do you recommend I listen to first? Or should I just listen to her albums in order?

user1471548941 · 29/04/2021 15:05
@ScottishDiblet I was just thinking the same myself 😍🙌🏻

Hi fellow Swifties 😊 I think she’s a phenomenal talent. And I believe that she is a truly lovely person too.

For me it’s her lyrics that make her music so special! Does anyone have a favourite lyric? 🎶
I am a Taylor lyric geek.

She is only 2 years older than me and I always felt growing up that she wrote the soundtrack to my life i.e. the teenage stuff when I was a teenager, Red came out when I went through an awful breakup and now I am a young women with a professional career she comes out with stuff like Mad Woman”.

The ultimate for me is All Too Well. Never ever has a song so perfectly matched my feelings- it arrived in the middle of my first big heartbreak.

The bridge in particular is spectacular, even my fiance agrees it’s a phenomenal bit of songwriting...

“You call me up again just to break my like a promise, so casually cruel in the name of being honest, I’m a crumpled up piece of paper lying here and I remember it all, all, all too well”. 😍

I'm just going to pick out two things, see what you think

Here's a pop like single

Here's a mellow cover from the Live Lounge

Oh and her lyrics are brilliant

So I can't resist The Man

OhToBeASeahorse · 29/04/2021 15:11

@Xiaoxiong try 'Wildest Dreams', 'Coney Island', 'Speak Now' or 'ready for it'. Really different songs but will give you a flavour!

CarmelBeach · 29/04/2021 15:14

Oh and for the stroytelling...

Rebecca rode up on the afternoon train

And

They think he did it but they just can't prove it
No, no body no crime...

The joy of being an old Swiftie!

"Ready for it" is one of my favourite videos
Like we're all gonna break out of the box eventually!

OhToBeASeahorse · 29/04/2021 15:18

Omg yes Last great American Dynasty. Amazing song

Yes I love this one! I love that she's a troublesome women writing about another troublesome woman.

And that Taylor bought the house in question in cash!

CarmelBeach · 29/04/2021 16:03

I want a doormat that says "I knew you were trouble when you walked in".

SirSamuelVimes · 29/04/2021 16:06

Troublesome WOMAN not women, obviously. Taylor is awesome, but not a plural.

CatRamsey · 29/04/2021 16:11

She's my guilty pleasure, not the type of music I usually listen to at all but I loved so many songs on Lover that I then went and bought folklore and evermore as well! I've since gone back and found some old gems... How did I not know Wildest Dreams existed until now?!

KM38 · 29/04/2021 17:27

@user1471548941 I know what you mean! She’s the same age as me and some of her songs just feel like she wrote them for whatever I was going through at the time!! I agree about All Too Well...it’s one of my all time favourites!

I’m always surprised by how many people are unsure of Lover! I really really liked it!
And Reputation is fabulous! I love savage Taylor 🤣🤣 Reputation has been in the CD player in mine and DHs car since it came out 🤣

KM38 · 29/04/2021 17:28

@WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll @Bluesheep8 Sorry for the lack of caravan content 🤣🤣 I’m sure they’re lovely too 🤷🏻‍♀️🤣

TuvoknotSpock · 29/04/2021 17:30

I love her and have no shame about it!

AlohaMolly · 29/04/2021 17:31

“You call me up again just to break my like a promise, so casually cruel in the name of being honest, I’m a crumpled up piece of paper lying here and I remember it all, all, all too well”. 😍

I went through about a month of listening to that song on repeat and constantly rewinding just those lyrics Grin
