I survived Couch to 5k week 1, run 1!

After contemplating doing C25k for a whole year, today I completed run 1 and survived. Still cannot imagine being able to run for 30 minutes in 9 weeks time though.
About half way through I had some pain on my inner ankle of right foot and the instep of my left foot, not sure if it's down to inexperience or shoe related.

Fabulous @Idontgiveagriffindamn! 28 minutes!! that's amazing Star

That sounds like a great idea to do the whole 5k, and work it down to doing it in 30 minutes. I'll definitely keep that in mind too - I have no idea yet how far off I am of 5k in 30 mins, but I expect to be on the slower side if at current pace.

3 weeks has definitely now gotten me over the point in time where I otherwise often would give up (typically after 2 weeks) so I will definitely keep going.

@Dazedandconfused10 - Good start! (again!)

DobbyIsAFreeElf · 06/06/2021 19:54

Today I finished week 4, I'd taken 10 days off between the 2nd and 3rd runs because I was on holiday so today's run was a little harder but I still managed. My calves and outer ankles ached a bit but I think that's from all the walking I did whilst away.

Week 2 run 1 done. 2 days late but never mind!

yorkyork · 10/06/2021 05:33

Great to see all the progress!

I did Week 4 run 2 yesterday Smile

Run 1 on Monday and Monday night I had sore/stiff legs and was a bit restless to get to sleep as a result..... Do I need to start stretching??

DobbyIsAFreeElf · 10/06/2021 15:08

Started week 5 today. Must be mad as I've just finished 3 night shifts and did the run after only 90 minutes sleep. Had a stitch the whole way round but managed to keep going.

@DobbyIsAFreeElf well done! I think it’s awesome that you did it even though you’re shattered.

I feel like if I didn't do it I would have sat on the sofa all day, I actually feel a bit more awake for trying it out.

@DobbyIsAFreeElf wow, on the back of that, well done!

I was thinking on Monday, maybe push to Tuesday but then I was like, come on no excuses and stick to Mon-Wed-Fri! So I started Week 5 on Monday.

I did the second run today. I can't believe that I managed twice 8 minutes. I also can't believe the ramping up of this week. Friday is 20 minutes! Shock

Idontgiveagriffindamn · 16/06/2021 05:57

@yorkyork well done! 2 times 8 mins is a great achievement. You’ll do great with the 20 mins on Friday.
I’ve got to get up shortly and do my first 30 min run. Never thought I’d get here - week 1 I was gasping for breath after the 4th minute.

yorkyork · 16/06/2021 06:19

@Idontgiveagriffindamn Good luck so early - 30 mins is such a great achievement!!

Idontgiveagriffindamn · 16/06/2021 10:36

I did it. I ran for 30 mins! Only 4.3 km but that’s ok.

yorkyork · 18/06/2021 10:04

@Idontgiveagriffindamn - WOW, well done!! Amazing!

I managed 20 mins this morning, got to say had a few weak moments, but I DID IT!!

Next week I can't do my usual Monday, so doing Tue-Wed-Fri...

Dazedandconfused10 · 20/06/2021 10:34

@idontgiveagriffindamn well done!

I've just completed week 3. Aiming to complete week 4 before going away, and need to try and keep up the routine when I am gone

yorkyork · 21/06/2021 01:58

@Dazedandconfused10 - great job! Another week completed Smile

I am changing days this week to Mon-Wed-Thur, but it's raining at the moment... waiting for the rain to stop...

lolacola77 · 21/06/2021 03:01

Oh god, I can swim for hours but can't even imagine running for 30 seconds! I did an hour Zumba class last week and was knackered. I can't actually RUN can I??

yorkyork · 21/06/2021 03:13

@lolacola77 - I jog/pace myself, does that count as "running"? Yes you can do this! It builds up slowly, it's not like you start off with an hour of running. I never imagined I could do it, yet here I am starting week 6.

yorkyork · 21/06/2021 03:17

speaking of week 6, run 1 - this was the first time I just couldn't do it all. I will have to do it again. I walked the last of the three runs. Sad

In my defence: it's hot, very humid, I didn't have enough sleep and had a bit of wine with friends last night. Anyway, I think the only thing I can do is just to do this one again...

yorkyork · 23/06/2021 06:11

Repeated Week 6 run 1 this morning - hard but done!

DobbyIsAFreeElf · 23/06/2021 21:35

Well done, great stuff that you managed it second time around.

Just done w6r3, changed it up by going a different route that was exactly 5k. Middle 10mins were tough going as on more of an incline than I'm used to. Then when Sarah said 5 mins to go I had a target of where I wanted to get to, when I got there she announced 60 more seconds. My warm up and cool down walk was included in the 5k so next time I will start running at 4 minutes warm up.

Dazedandconfused10 · 04/07/2021 11:36

I had last week off and had meant to restart w4. I accidentally chose w5r2 but I managed it!

Dazedandconfused10 · 19/07/2021 18:25

Completed a 30 min run yesterday! Not 5k because I'm slow but back up to 30 mins, next goal is to get to an hour

DobbyIsAFreeElf · 04/08/2021 16:53

Today I graduated couch to 5k. Can officially run for 30 minutes and cover 5k which 8 never thought would happen!
