I survived Couch to 5k week 1, run 1!

After contemplating doing C25k for a whole year, today I completed run 1 and survived. Still cannot imagine being able to run for 30 minutes in 9 weeks time though.
About half way through I had some pain on my inner ankle of right foot and the instep of my left foot, not sure if it's down to inexperience or shoe related.

@RichardMarxisinnocent

Well done OP! I did W1R1 yesterday, and planning to do W1R2 tomorrow. Can't decide if you get up early and do it before work, or to do it early evening after work. I'm very much not a morning person, but I quite like the idea of getting it done at the start of the day.
Early morning always for me. I have so much more energy in the morning & manage a lot better. I used to go for early evening & found a massive difference when I switched to morning.

Thanks altlife. Smile Yes, it is. Grin

I do 2 runs on my lunch break and one first thing. Definitely prefer the early morning one but can’t fit another 2 into the week.

@altlife I just did my first run week 1 and had Spotify in background with the bbc C25K app and it worked brilliantly.
I am currently dying on the sofa but really glad I’ve started!

DobbyIsAFreeElf · 26/04/2021 22:37

I did my first run at 4pm which seemed to work well for me, I had chance to do all the jobs i needed to in the morning, chill after lunch and have an empty stomach so don't get a stitch. Im also a shower in the evening person so I got home, ate then showered, where as if I ran in the morning I'd either have to have a shower after or stink all day.
I used the bbc app and listened to Amazon music through it which worked well.

I'm going to give early morning a go, it's probably a bit easier to fit into my daily routine. Alarm is set, running shoes by the door, running clothes laid out. All that's left to do is actually get myself out of bed!

Thanks @Offerdecisionneeded, another poster on another thread mentioned this app to me. I just downloaded and tested and it works - yay!

Thanks for the recommendation. I am actually looking forward to my run on Wednesday Shock

DobbyTheHouseElk · 27/04/2021 06:51

I find early morning running the best way to slot it into my day. Get up, go for run. Come back, shower have breakfast. Get on with day. Then it’s not hanging over you.

Also it’s cooler in the morning.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 27/04/2021 07:13

W1R2 done! It was a lovely sunny morning, bit of a chill in the air but not too cold. I listen to an amazon music play list while doing it.

Redrosesandsunsets · 27/04/2021 07:18

Well done. It’s hard to imagine but it works. I haven’t done it for awhile but need to redo. It’s the best and I actually enjoy it when I get going. Great work OP keep going.

Milomonster · 27/04/2021 07:35

You are my hero today. I have been procrastinating for mo th to do this and didn’t (despite a running track in front of my home). I’m doing it. Well done and keep going!!

U2HasTheEdge · 27/04/2021 07:45

I am on week 3, run 3.

I am very slow. I managed to run the 3 minutes. When I did my first run I never thought I could manage 3 minutes as I am so unfit. Now I can't imagine running for any longer than 3!

Well done OP!

DobbyIsAFreeElf · 27/04/2021 16:12

Just finished w1r2, I have to say I am proud of myself, I kind of thought managing the first run was a fluke but then I managed this one too. Change my route a bit, as last time I ended up doing 3 laps and got a little bored so it worked better taking a longer route and I kind of knew that I'd make it back to the without dying.

@DobbyIsAFreeElf well done!
Are you going to stick with the same route so you can see if you go further as you run more?

I think I will stick to the route I did, there is a field I passed that I can also add in a lap of if I need to extend it further

I completed w3 r3 today managed to get out early enough before the rain properly pelted and the wind picked up thankfully!

I run mainly around the knees as it's kinder to my knees I am desperately hoping they hold up through w4.

KinseyWinsey · 06/05/2021 14:28

I've stopped at week 5. The weather is appalling. Constant rain. Hope I can plod on from next week without having to go back weeks.

kiksta · 08/05/2021 18:36

I am doing this on a treadmill, can I join?

Just can't face running in public yet 🙈

Completed Week 2 this week. Week 3 run 1 is planned for Monday. I am dreading this 3 minute run!!!

Idontgiveagriffindamn · 08/05/2021 18:57

@kiksta running in public is the worst! I feel like I’m being judged as a fat woman running. It’s been better with the rubbish weather as there’s less people about!
Well done on completing week 2. You’ll do brill at week 3. I’ve done week 4 run 1 and was amazed I managed it. I guess they do know what they’re doing on this app 😀

Haggisfish · 09/05/2021 00:55

@Idontgiveagriffindamn nobody is judging you-honestly I think anyone I see out exercising is brilliant, whatever their size. I’ve hit a wall in week six-the twenty five minute run. I actually think I’m low on iron or something as I’m running very slowly and am still completely breathless-couldn’t hold a conversation at all! I’m noticing it’s worst mid cycle and towards my period. Hey ho. I’m still getting out and running three times a week but am trying to do fifteen minutes straight.

Idontgiveagriffindamn · 09/05/2021 08:18

@Haggisfish it’s my own judgement of myself I think but I’m getting better
Just got back from w4 r2 and found it much easier than the last one. Think I’m starting to get the hang of my breathing now.

DobbyIsAFreeElf · 09/05/2021 09:23

This past week I've not done as many runs because my shifts have been awful with nights at the beginning of the week and quick turn around back onto days then I stupidly picked up some overtime as well. W2r3 is planned for tomorrow, hoping the weather isn't too bad so it doesn't put me off.

OP posts:
Idontgiveagriffindamn · 09/05/2021 10:26

Hope the weather holds out for you @DobbyIsAFreeElf

mamaduckbone · 09/05/2021 12:19

Well done! I didn't believe I could get there either but I did - it took a lot longer than 8 weeks because I couldn't run 3 times a week and I repeated weeks if I needed to (probably more like 6 months) but once I got there it never went away.

kiksta · 11/05/2021 09:42

I did it. I did week 3 run 1.

F**k me. I ran for 3 minutes! Twice!!

I cried at the end Blush

We can do it!! 💪🏽
