I keep getting static shocks

Anyone else?

for the last couple of weeks I've been getting loads of static shocks. Not just normal things like jumpers either.

This morning I kissed DS on top of his head and there got a shock on my lips! At about 11ish I turned on a tap and it gave me a shock. Door handles - shock. Hug DD shock. All with a proper loud clicky noise and DD swears she saw a spark when I touched the radiator the other day.

NO ONE else is getting them unless I am involved IYSWIM - so dp and dd could hug and nothing would happen.

Its nothing to do with the house because I get them outside. I don't thiknk its to do with my clothes because I change them daily anyway and it still happens.

Any explanation??? Any one else? Or am I being contacted from the afterlife by some evil spirit?? Or well ... what?

Yes, it's been on the news. Something to do with unusually dry air 🤷‍♀️

AnneLovesGilbert · 23/04/2021 21:57

I’m getting them too. Off things it’s never happened from before.

I jumped a foot high earlier getting a shock off a metal garden bench and DH said he’d heard it was a thing but couldn’t remember any details. Helpful.

GillBungalow · 23/04/2021 21:58

My DC have been getting them non stop, which is why we noticed the story Grin

It can be a perimenopausal symptom

TheOneWithTheBigNose · 23/04/2021 21:59

Yes!! This is happening to me too!

TheRealMrsMorningstar · 23/04/2021 21:59

No explanation but having the same thing atm! Poor dd2 won't go on the trampoline as I shocked her on there and everytime I touch my car door it happens!

HeronLanyon · 23/04/2021 21:59

Me too plus lips beginning to chap like winter - thought i must be dehydrated but it’s just so dry.
Would love a few rainy days tbh.

wheresmyhairytoe · 23/04/2021 21:59

I've been getting them all week. Very odd.

DuchessOfBuggerAll · 23/04/2021 21:59

Oh it's a thing is it? Every time I touch the car door I jump back with the shock. Every single time. And I don't learn so it's a surprise every time.

Magnificentmug12 · 23/04/2021 22:00

Had that a few weeks ago and nothing since I binned my dressing gown!

Sounds like yours is to do with the weather?

Out of curiosity....do you rumble dry your clothes? Think that’s what kept my dressing gown charged up!

VelvetKitty · 23/04/2021 22:00

I've been getting them for the last couple of weeks it's awful!!

SlipperySlope99 · 23/04/2021 22:00

Yep, been having the odd few over the few days, but just got one off the light switch, one off another light switch, one giving DS a kiss good night and one sliding my metal edged wardrobe doors 🙄

Toty · 23/04/2021 22:00

Yes! All the time. From everything. I got quite a big one from an unplugged appliance earlier and the cat is freaking out, she keeps rubbing against me and getting shocks Confused

FudgeFlake · 23/04/2021 22:01

Me too. I was wondering if it was anything to do with the very dry conditions - I haven't had to wash any mud off any of the dogs for days now! Earlier today I found myself using my sleeve to close the van doors because I was so fed up of getting shocked every single time I touch them.

HeronLanyon · 23/04/2021 22:01

anne I hope you made your dh jump a foot himself for such a useless comment. Really made me laugh. I do that too and think why even say anything ?!

PolarnOpirate · 23/04/2021 22:01

Yes!!!! Soooo much lately!!! I get them a lot anyway but this week has been crazy, I got them from the cat when he came in from outside too, over and over again, usually they wear out but they kept coming. And so many to/from the kids too!

Everythingmagnolia · 23/04/2021 22:02

I get them all the time, more so in the last few weeks. I makes me hesitant to open doors etc

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 23/04/2021 22:03

Yes! And off stuff that has never shocked me before like the bastard car door and my twatting computer chair!

Hopeful now that a bit of rain will help the sitch

Boph · 23/04/2021 22:03

I thought this was on the coronavirus topic and you were going to blame the astra zeneka vaccine. Grin

listsandbudgets · 23/04/2021 22:09

I'm not alone... phew.. .thought I was losing it. I feel like all three rice crispie elves rolled into one...

gawd...I get these all the time, it has been worse recently though so something in the dry air theory

Esp from dh's car, I hate that Doblo! A car i used to have regularly shocked me....I rarely get out of any car without hanging onto the door before i put my feet to the ground. A stranger once saw me dithering in a car park as my car door had not closed properly and i knew I'd get a shock if I retouched it...he gallantly opened it and slammed it shut for me so i could lock it.

I have always suffered from static though, when the children were small and one in a buggy we would scamper about all holding hands building up the charge.... and then sidle up to dh and pass it on to him
Nowadays it's shopping trollies...I have to wander round with one hand on the handle and the other on the metal of the trolley.

I give shocks to the cats, kissed the dog on the nose the other day and we both jumped. Brushing the long haired cat fairly builds up the static.

I blame a 70's childhood filled with brynylon sheets and Pippadee nighties. 3)
I cannot tune in a radio either...if i touch it then it will go off signal, if I get it so it doesn't crackle then the second I walk away from it then it de tunes, like I am an aerial. If ds1 is home and the weather is anything less than perfect we have to put the kitchen radio off as it goes all weird, and that's a DAB radio.

ladygindiva · 23/04/2021 22:09

@GillBungalow

Yes, it's been on the news. Something to do with unusually dry air 🤷‍♀️
Is this right? Dp and I have been experiencing this and thought it might be the new TV we bought about 3 weeks ago. We were thinking about returning it and complaining this weekend 🤣
WorriedMillie · 23/04/2021 22:10

I get static shocks lots, always have done. To the point of cracks and sparks and they bloody hurt too!
It’s far worse with rubber soled shoes, but its bad enough regardless
I try to touch something non-conducting before touching taps/door handles, etc. I touch the floor, or a nearby wall before touching my car. I touch random, non conducting surfaces on the way round the supermarket, otherwise I end up getting shocks off the trolley or shelves
Bane of my flipping life!

Clymene · 23/04/2021 22:11

Loads at the moment! Every time I close the car door

KarmaNoMore · 23/04/2021 22:12

Dry air. Stopping dragging your feet on the carpet helps.
