What's your most upsetting tv death?

Just watching Bones for the first time and absolutely gutted about Sweets which made me wonder which other tv deaths have upset MNers.

Lots of potential for spoilers here so apologies in advance.

First death of a child on UK TV, apparently.

Oh and also Kate from line of duty

Shane’s family and then suicide in The Shield. The build up to it is so tense and upsetting, like a slow, inevitable car crash. I genuinely found it harrowing and don’t think I could ever sit through it again, even though it was so well written, directed and performed.

Testament of youth - don’t actually remember who died but do remember awful sobbing as a child watching that.

When Jack died in coronation street. Between ghost Vera coming back and Tyrone calling him dad I wept buckets.

Also Lance in cucumber. And everyone in it's a sin.

Trying to recall why I wasn’t traumatised by Shireen Baratheon’s death- I closed my eyes and made DH fast forward till it was all over!

I have never seen the final Poirot because I can't bear to see him die.

I watched it this Christmas and was very reluctant to watch but actually it's great. And not really sad at all.

I have however always refused to watch Sharpe's Waterloo because I know Hagman and Harris die and I'm not watching that. It was bad enough when little Perkins died in an earlier one. Also Rossendale dies and Rossendale is Wesley and Wesley has the saddest death on T.V so I don't think I can watch him die in something else.

My mum has similarly always refused to watch the final Morse (though she has watched Lewis) - she blames the untimely death of Morse for the untimely death of John Thaw.

Rose Tyler in Dr Who ... another one that didn’t technically die but when they’re on the beach and saying goodbye ... utterly heartbroken 💔

Alex from Ashes to Ashes. She was so determined that she would get back to her daughter and it was heartbreaking to find out that she had been dead all along

I'll never get over Bob from Stranger Things. I thought at first that he was going to be a baddie because he was too nice! But he actually was that nice and he died saving everyone 😭

Oh yes! I couldn’t stand him first of all but then grew to love him and that was heartbreaking

Yes @colouringindoors - agree. Although I think Colin in Spooks in Series 5 topped it. I wept.
