What's your most upsetting tv death?

Just watching Bones for the first time and absolutely gutted about Sweets which made me wonder which other tv deaths have upset MNers.

Lots of potential for spoilers here so apologies in advance.

@doginatent that haunted me for ages 🏊‍♂️

Radio4Rocks · 23/04/2021 22:04

Have to agree with so many others.

Sweets in Bones and Mark in ER. The other song from ER was No one knows but you. Beautiful song that introduced me to Beth Nielsen Chapman. I have a lot of her stuff thanks to ER.

I have never seen the final Poirot because I can't bear to see him die.

Yes also to the otter in Ring of Bright water and another animal one - Ginger in Black Beauty.

OohThatCat · 23/04/2021 22:04

Lewis in Hollyoaks, deliberately OD'ing on paracetamol and alcohol. I think he maybe changed his mind but was too late and he died anyway. Also pretty much all of the Cunninghams in Hollyoaks.

Lucy in ER, I was traumatised by that storyline with Carter when he sees her under the bed for years!

Robin Hood in Once Upon A Time

The baby in the episode of MAS*H where Alan Alda has a breakdown following a flashback about a bus. Can't even describe it more than that!

Nick Brody in Homeland. A shocking ending to that character and the scene was harrowing.

Not TV but Iron Man in the last Avengers movie. That made me cry Blush.

OohThatCat · 23/04/2021 22:06

Also really old and really niche, but David the Gnome. Was the first time I saw a "good" character in a cartoon and tv show die. Even though he was super old and that was the point, I remember being sad about it when I was a kid for ages!

OohThatCat · 23/04/2021 22:07

8dpwoah · 23/04/2021 22:07

Haven't read every single post but I'm surprised I haven't seen one mention Kutner in House (apologies if I've missed you if you have!)

@planplan

The most traumatic that still haunts me is Lisa Faulkner in the chip fryer in Spooks.

The one that gets me every time is Arthur in Merlin. 😩

Ginger in Black Beauty

I read Black Beauty when I was a child. Have never read it again because of Ginger.

Assumpta in Ballykissangel. I will never get over that!
It’s alright she’s just turned up as the matriarch in a very dramatic family called the Ahern’s.
AbsolutelyPatsy · 23/04/2021 22:08

Yes to the Otter in Ring of Bright wAter, I can still see that

Ereshkigalangcleg · 23/04/2021 22:08

Victor Meldrew in One Foot In The Grave. It was a really good final episode and his death was in keeping with the tone of the show, but it just makes me so sad to think of Margaret living all alone. Even though Victor drove her mad a lot of the time, she did really love him

My grandad was a real Victor Meldrew character and died a few months before, at 67 so I found it very poignant.

DreamDancing · 23/04/2021 22:09

I really struggle with any war films/ series Band of Brothers/ Private Ryan type programmes.

I have sons in their late teens, early 20s and it’s just unimaginable.

The horse in International Velvet sprang to mind Initially because I spent the day at stables, I’m sure,
