What's your most upsetting tv death?

Just watching Bones for the first time and absolutely gutted about Sweets which made me wonder which other tv deaths have upset MNers.

Lots of potential for spoilers here so apologies in advance.

And the gang watching the video after Doyle sacrifices himself: "Is that it? Am I done?"

Hoo boy. I do not accept this. It is not canon. Do not tell such upsetting lies. I think you will find Doyle and Cordy are still very much alive, very much in love and are married with two daughters.

Don't know what show you were watching ...

ImAbsolutelyTwatted · 23/04/2021 20:18

Probably any greys anatomy death. Although I was sobbing when Denny Duquette died - still cry at the reruns

30not13 · 23/04/2021 20:19

Rita in Dexter. Totally unsuspected and broke my heart, cried bigly Sad

Posyc · 23/04/2021 20:20

Max and Susannah's children in Brookside.

Confusedandshaken · 23/04/2021 20:20

Ewart in Casualty. I just googled him. His character was killed off in 1988 and I haven't watched it since. It's just too upsetting without him there.

crashbandicoot4 · 23/04/2021 20:21

Sweets from Bones

Joyce in Buffy

Matthew in downtown

The walking dead where they started the season killing off the best characters- I was livid and actually couldn't watch it again for ages. I lost interest it was too much

Ellie in UP

Dog In The snow dog

picklemewalnuts · 23/04/2021 20:21

Early episode of Spooks. Deep fat fryer.

iamthesandstorm · 23/04/2021 20:22

Bradley
dennis. ,Both Eastenders. ,,Dennis was bad enough but after bradl can't watch anymore

KevinTheGoat · 23/04/2021 20:22

There were two episodes of Inside Number 9 that had deaths in that made me cry. I'm not going to say which because spoilers, but the first one in particular really hit me.

MorganSeventh · 23/04/2021 20:22

Michael Praed as Robin of Sherwood round about 1985. I am sure there are other deaths more shocking, but I was 8 and it was the first major character death I remember. And then to add insult to injury they replaced him with Jason Connery in the last series. And Marion became a nun Angry.

Thirty six years on, still indignant.

Icantreachthepretzels · 23/04/2021 20:22

@Aroundtheworldin80moves

A very old one.. Col. Henry Blake in MASH. Whole episode about him going home to his family... And then dies on the way home.
Oh I weep at that ... that final scene. Only Alan Alda (and presumably Radar as he delivers the lines) knew what they were filming when they did that last scene, no one else had seen a script- they thought it was just another surgery scene. So the shock you see is absolutely real.
hogangog · 23/04/2021 20:23

Inspector Morse - he didn’t get to tell Lewis how proud he was of him!

Mark Greene - i can’t hear that song without crying.

Uncle Keith - one tree hill

Frank from Casualty. Must be over 20 years ago, but the pain on his dad’s face Sad

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 23/04/2021 20:23

I'd totally forgotten about Mark Greene dying in ER and the young intern who died in an attack on her and Carter. And all the other members of staff and patients.

I'm sure there are loads of others from other dramas too but somehow ER passings seem centre-stage in my memory.

May have been said but Mufasa in the original Lion King. I was quite a little thing and bawled my eyes out in the cinema and had nightmares afterwards. My parents were quite annoyed at the G rating.

nina97 · 23/04/2021 20:24

I forgot about damon on brookside...

But it has to be daphne on neighbours... I love you too clarkie... My hearts still broken 💔💔💔

BillGigolo · 23/04/2021 20:24

Adriana in The Sopranos 😫😫😫

Dot in Line of Duty. I know he was a bad bastard but he’d been groomed since he was a wee boy and it felt like he and Kate genuinely cared about each other.

I still cry when I watch it and I know why - it came out the year after my dad died. I'd definitely recommend it to any kid who's lost a parent.
Lauren15 · 23/04/2021 20:25

The episode where Inspector Morse died was heart breaking.

DareDevil223 · 23/04/2021 20:26

So many:
Morse
Cassie in Unforgotten
Mrs Landingham and Leo in West Wing
Sweets and Mr Nigel Murray in Bones
D'Angelo and Omar in The Wire
DS Ripley in Luther
Rita Morgan in Dexter
Joss Carter in Person of Interest
George Gently.
I cry really easily as well so I'm a permanent sobbing mess Grin

Will in The Good Wife

ChimpyChops · 23/04/2021 20:26

At the moment, watching Barbara die I'm CTM (catching up) 😔

hidethexylophone · 23/04/2021 20:26

Russell Tovey's character who drowned in Years and Years - that really stayed with me.

Also all of the Greys anatomy deaths mentioned and Mark Greene!

BillGigolo · 23/04/2021 20:27

Oliver in Corrie fairly recently. I actually haven’t watched since then. DS is around the same age and I cried for days every time I thought about it.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 23/04/2021 20:27

Inspector Morse's death was so well handled - when Lewis kissed him I was broken 😭
