Inspired by another thread by HensTeeth44, here is a thread for lovers of fan fiction either writer or just an avid reader.

I do have some unfinished Harry Potter fan fic to share but I'm at working at the moment.

Dont be afraid to share your favourites.

I read a Harry Potter fan fic years ago were Hermione was thrown back in time and fell for Sirius. I dont think it was ever finished.

I think Hermione travelling in time and falling in love with one of the marauders or Snape is a pretty popular premise. It's probably it's own subgenre.

I don't really read HP fanfic (I don't read fanfics of fandoms where I'm happy with the actual content and think we got enough - hence why I don't bother with Buffy fanfic either) but I do browse the pages every so often and Hermione the time traveller - back to marauders era - is one I see a lot of.

@MrsGulDukat yes girl! Thank you so much for starting this.

My Favourite HP fanfic is 'Turn' by Sara'sGirl

And ages ago A Buffy/Spike one 'Dancing Lessons'

If anyone can recommend either HP or Buffy (not Angel) PLEASE... :)

SapphireSeptember · 19/04/2021 23:11

One of my favourite HP fanfics is 'Harry's New Home'. Snape adopts Harry! It's really sweet.
Then there's one I can't remember the name of. Harry and Snape both become children again. Ron and Hermione adopt them, then after four months they become adults again and fall in love. (A nick in time! I had it bookmarked, yay!)

And this person has written some really good stories.

Icantreachthepretzels · 19/04/2021 23:17

@StillMedusa If Spuffy's your thing have you looked on Elysian Fields

dark-solace.org/elysian/browse.php?type=titles

It's an entire archive dedicated to Spike/ Buffy - and here's a page of Spuffy readers recommending their fave fics on there for you to search for (they might have even linked some of them)

buffy-boards.com/threads/what-fanfics-should-i-read-spuffy.77352/

And here's a page of just general Buffy recommendations - they're probably on Ao3

I read a worrying amount of fan fiction, I find it very soothing.

Mostly Supernatural Destiel works but also Good Omens and Shadowhunters Malec ones.

StillMedusa · 20/04/2021 00:11

Icantreachthepretzels THANK YOU Grin I shall investigate!!!!

Fyredraca · 20/04/2021 06:56

Hello! I came over to join you. I discovered fan fiction a couple of years ago at the age of 39 Grin
I always had an overactive imagination and I can't believe it took me so long.
I love LOTR, Poldark, True Detective S1.
I have written a few (well started them) but not published.
Any tips or resources for me to finish what I start?
Still blushing from a very hot Gross (George Warleggan/Ross Poldark) story I was reading yesterday. My god it was smoking Grin
Great to meet you all, I don't know anyone in real life who does this except my teenage niece.
I'm on a Discord for an author I like but it's not really great as they're all so much younger.
Maybe we should start a MN discord

itssquidstella · 20/04/2021 06:58

Oh I'd forgotten about SPN! I dabbled there, too.

CornedBeef451 · 20/04/2021 07:17

SPN ended so badly there are dozens of fix its and more appearing every week!

Some of the work on AO3 is amazing, I've read some over 100k words that were beautifully written.

I don't write so it's lovely so many people are happy to share their work although sometimes with very niche interests!

I have learned to check the tags very carefully though as tentacle porn is not my thing!

bunglebee · 20/04/2021 07:37

@Fyredraca I make story maps - sometimes I actually work backwards from where I want a story to end and figure out what scenes have to happen first. When I have the scenes for a chapter or story, I just keep plugging away at it (and motivate myself via shame if I've already started posting it/comments). You could also get a beta for accountability/story ideas.

Fyredraca · 20/04/2021 07:40

@bunglebee thank you, that's really interesting. I will give that a go.

Fyredraca · 20/04/2021 07:40

How do you get a beta?

teaandcustardcreamsx · 20/04/2021 08:20

Ooh yes I love fanfiction Blush slight addiction to it! I’m in the Harry Potter, Merlin and Supergirl fandom though tend to stick to Merlin. I haven’t been over to Harry Potter for a while though I do have a WIP sitting there that I need to get done that I hope will take off rather well.

I post on AO3 and FF.net. When I first began I didn’t know how to post on those sites so used Wattpad but have since deleted it as I just didn’t find it too good! Admittedly have so many works in progress at the moment but slowly catching up. Though have had one of my works in the community pages!

Also unsure on how to get a BETA! I do talk to a couple of other writers on PM and Tumblr, though too nervous to ask for a beta reader lol! Though in my main fandom there is a tag which is “no beta we die like ”

bunglebee · 20/04/2021 08:43

@Fyredraca

How do you get a beta?
Lots of people post themselves as poss betas for various fandoms on ff.net. Or you could approach an active writer or critic in the fandom, or post in a community saying you're looking for one. Ask, basically Smile

I say this as a giant hypocrite, I've never got round to getting one. My writing time is snatched and sometimes I just don't want to have to delay further before I post something!

MoChridhe · 20/04/2021 08:49

Watch out for plagiarism. Recently in the Outlander fandom someone plagiarised word for word some fics from the walking dead fandom. Some readers in both Fandoms recognised the stories and they were taken down.

MargaretThursday · 20/04/2021 09:00

Ds got into fanfiction recently. His favourite is:
Alex Rider

He tells me he's read it four times now even though it's around 450k words.

MrsGulDukat · 20/04/2021 09:38

@Fyredraca

I dont have a beta either. Never bothered in 7 years so I wint bother now

OP posts:
Icantreachthepretzels · 20/04/2021 10:47

No I don't have a beta, although I think sometimes my punctuation could do with a double check.

I have learned to check the tags very carefully though as tentacle porn is not my thing!

There are some very strange things and, indeed, some very strange people out there - so you do have to be careful what you click on. I once read an extremely long thread on red flags in fan fiction over on the T.V Tropes forum - and there I discovered that 'vore' was thing ... which is cannibalism. Possibly erotic cannibalism.
Most people had it as a red flag (natch) but there was one poster who got very offended every time someone compared vore to paedophilia.

To this day I'm not sure if they're a cannibal that is offended by being compared to a paedophile or a paedophile offended at being compared to a cannibal.

bunglebee · 20/04/2021 10:53

I don't think anyone actually does vore, though..? It's just a fantasy thing. Not my bag, for sure, but I don't think people are arranging real-life meets to erotically eat each other. It's like unicorn fantasies, it can't happen in real life anyway.

I certainly had no idea tentacle porn was such a thing until I stumbled on an exhibit of erotic anime in Paris. That was quite the eye-opener.

I really should get a beta. I know it would do me good.

Icantreachthepretzels · 20/04/2021 11:21

There was a case in Germany one time. The IT crowd did a spoof of it. The reason we know about the German one is the 'victim' changed his mind at the last minute and went home. But if something happened once ...
And of course it doesn't have to be consensual when it spill into real life - there have definitely been cannibal serial killers.

bunglebee · 20/04/2021 11:49

As I vaguely understand it, vore is a different kink from cannibalism and involves being swallowed/ eaten in your entirety by some kind of giant person (or you being really small). That's officially all I know about it though, and I've never read it in a fic.

Icantreachthepretzels · 20/04/2021 12:15

I had to google when I came across it because it meant absolutely nothing to me (I didn't pick up on the 'carnivore' thing) - and from the briefest bit of the very first page of google it's described as 'the fantasy of consuming or being consumed by others.'

It doesn't specify in one go - or anything about size.

But I'm not going to click on any of the fanfic to find out Grin
