@Spudlet I would have loved to have met that snake! Snake owner family here😊

Frownette · 23/04/2021 09:18

And what, pray tell, do you want with their land silkiecats? 🤨

Actually I'd better stop pissing around on the internet and head off now Grin

Spudlet · 23/04/2021 09:34

It made us jump too as we just about fell over her! But once we’d seen her it was just really cool. I’ve never seen a grass snake before. I did meet a slow worm once though, and Spuddog and I found an adder under some leaves one autumn - fortunately we just uncovered a middle section rather than the business end, so we beat a hasty retreat!

Spudlet · 23/04/2021 09:55

@MissConductUS Crying at that wedding story, can you imagine? There you are looking out of the front window one morning and suddenly you spot a party of people with a gazebo and a big white dress on the front lawn 😂😂😂

Silkiecats · 23/04/2021 10:04

I need more land for a zoo Frownette Easter Grin

theDudesmummy · 23/04/2021 11:25

I won't meet a snake as I live in Ireland...

theDudesmummy · 23/04/2021 11:27

I bought a new computer but am having to send it back as it doesn't have a touch screen (which I didn't know when I ordered it) and I use the touchscreen function a lot.

sueelleker · 23/04/2021 12:02

@theDudesmummy

I think snakes are beautiful. My mother is phobic though.
I love snakes-I've held two-a boa constrictor at Sandown zoo, and a python in Morocco. I've also held a baby crocodile at a crocodile farm in Spain.
theDudesmummy · 23/04/2021 13:59

This may be a bit interesting and odd for this thread, but when I was growing up in South Africa a great many years ago, there was a famous stripper who used a snake as part of her act. I was fascinated by this. It says a lot about changing times that my mother allowed me to go to a fancy dress party (probably aged about 12) dressed as this lady, I wore a bikini and a huge toy (furry animal type) snake.

MissConductUS · 23/04/2021 14:08

Welcome, @Fckingfuming, and thanks for sharing your snake affinity news. We have small snakes where I live. They tend to come into the basement and garage when it gets cold.

@Spudlet, even for Florida, a state known for bizarre behavior, that story takes the cake. What gets me is that the couple told their guests that it was their mansion. Presumably, the guests would be mostly family and friends who knew that they didn't have that kind of money.

@theDudesmummy, laptops don't generally have touch screens standard as they add to the cost. We bought DS a new laptop for Christmas and it was a bit of an upcharge to get him the touchscreen.

It got down to 1 degree C this morning. Winter does not want to leave New York.

@theDudesmummy I always thought you lived in America! I'm so used to using the internet on my phone I kept jabbing my finger at my new laptop. Luckily this was in private.

2pm meeting hasn't shown? (Yaaaay!) I can just send an email with progress if it doesn't happen, cross fingers

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 23/04/2021 14:26

My foot progresses in leaps and bounds! Physio called they moved my next appointment forward to Monday.
DS had a good week back at school.

I quite like snakes and spiders, too.

Spudlet · 23/04/2021 14:33

@MissConductUS It’s a special one, isn’t it?! 🙈🤣

@Prokupatuscrakedatus Excellent foot news!

I am sitting in my garden in the sun. I just did a run with no pain in my foot to speak of, so feeling very pleased! Although this is slightly tempered by the fact that I should be on a zoom call with a training provider about a course that I’d like to do, but they never started the meeting. I waited for 15 minutes, then decided that was plenty and I don’t really feel like paying large sums of money to such a disorganised lot... perhaps they will comeback to me with a valid excuse, but otherwise I will be looking elsewhere. Fortunately it’s not an obscure qualification so I should be able to find another course fairly easily, I hope.

theDudesmummy · 23/04/2021 15:17

The new computer was a desktop not a laptop. It seems impossible to get a large screen (29 inch) desktop with a touchscreen now, I have had to order one from the States. The price was good enough though that even with the shipping it is cheaper than the non-touchscreen one I bought in Ireland!

I hope they don't stop making touchscreens. They would not stop making touchscreen phones or tablets, why would they do that with computers?

MissConductUS · 23/04/2021 15:19

Spudlet The other thing that occurred to me is that I've heard on MN that in Britain trespassing is considered a civil, not a criminal offense and the police won't get involved unless there's another crime involved like burglary or vandalism. Is this correct? If this had happened in Britain would the police have told the wedding party that they had to leave or would they have washed their hands of it?

Piano lessons started again today, after Easter, and from next week I can go in person, which will be nice.

Now I'm baking flapjacks and watching tennis from Barcelona. Conflicted, as Cam Norrie is British, but I am a big Rafa fan ( of course I want Rafa to win really Smile)

Champagneforeveryone · 23/04/2021 15:41

spudlet that snakes a beauty Smile DH and I saw our first adder of the year last week but it was much smaller than that!

Frownette · 23/04/2021 15:50

Actually you'd think they'd just go and join in, wouldn't you? Free champagne! Yes civil.

@MissConductUS I just booked myriad things with Microsoft UK and I shake my feeeeest at you, US was at the top and I had to scroll right down near the bottom to get UK

Frownette · 23/04/2021 15:53

@amigababy piano sounds good, my doctor said today our next 'meet' will be F2F which took me by surprise.

How long have you been learning?

theDudesmummy · 23/04/2021 15:55

Sunny here for a change. A neighbour just told me a joke about the Irish summer (I have only been here for a year so not much experience of it):

"Ah, how well I remember the summer of '93. It was on a Wednesday".

Frownette · 23/04/2021 16:04

:)

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 23/04/2021 16:15

On my way back from work I bought some flowers for my terasse. So tomorrow I'll get the outside ready, whatever the temperatures. Hah!

Spudlet · 23/04/2021 16:26

@MissConductUS Yes, trespass is a civil offence here. However I suspect that in this case, setting up a wedding (!) would continue as aggravated trespass, which the police can indeed get involved with. Particularly as they refused to leave when asked to by the homeowner.

It would certainly be extremely aggravatING!

Spudlet · 23/04/2021 16:31

Yep, pretty sure it would meet the definition for aggravated trespass.

greenandblackcross.org/guides/laws/5-trespass-aggravated-trespass/

You must be doing two things to commit aggravated trespass:

  1. Trespassing
  2. Intentionally obstructing, disrupting, or intimidating others from carrying out ‘lawful activities’.

I would say that setting up a wedding (a wedding! A whole wedding!) even after you’ve been explicitly told not to would count as obstructing lawful activities - in this case, living in the house without a wedding (wtf!) going on in the back garden.

Nydj · 23/04/2021 17:08

@Frownette

Thanks Sunbird24, I do need to put on a bit of weight though so it's a good incentive :) I don't want to abandon my fruit and veg boxes though. It was lucky it was at night time so no-one spotted it on the pavement.

Really want to try your avocado virgin pina colada, might try that this weekend. How's tricks?

I have missed the avocado virgin pina colada recipe - would it be possible to re-post it @amigababy?

@MissConductUS I loved the story about the Florida wedding - it’s such bizarre behaviour!

@Prokupatuscrakedatus, good news on your foot recovery and I’m happy that you have some flowers for your terrace.

I have been in the garden potting on seedlings and planting out the lupin (baby) plants I bought a few days ago. I have never had any luck with growing lupin in the past so I have sprinkled slug pellets around them (sorry!).

It’s a lovely day here.
