In the queue, the men mostly looked younger and fitter than the women (that's menopause for you I guess) , but the women were less grey, even the ones who did not have dyed hair.

Deathraystare · 13/05/2021 13:39

This might be too exciting.... it involves speed - a speeding taxi.

At the moment because of ill health I am travelling by taxi. I left work and the young guy behind the wheel was going heel for leather. So many twists and turns and bouncing at speed ramps. I did comment that as he bounced over speed ramps it made me feel sick and his reply? "Yeah there's a lot of them isn't there?"

I got out at my destination. My legs were like jelly and I don't know how I didn't throw up in his cab! (Bloody well should have done!!!)

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 13/05/2021 14:25

A taxi driver that speeds? All taxis I ever took were driven strictly within the rules. Even the one taking me to the birth house (?).
It's raining slightly less.
Lasagne will be ready in about 10 minutes, yay!

We once got a taxi back from Gatwick airport to Brighton (we were going by coach, but it was a 2 hr wait for the next one) I swear the driver was going round bends on 2 wheels. We would have sent in a complaint, but he knew our address!
MissConductUS · 13/05/2021 15:22

@sproutsandparsnips, we've had a lot of rain in the last month, which has made things a bit dreary, but has done wonders for the lawn and front garden, as well as helping bring out the tree foliage. If you look closely at the picture of my front garden you'll see that my cactus has done its annual resurrection quite nicely. I'll plant some annuals soon, maybe this weekend if I can get out to the nursery.

Deathray, do you have Uber of Lyft in your area? They let you see reviews of drivers and post your own if you want to.

Dude, I'm also an older mum, having had my two at ages 39 and 41. And some of the people at your vaccine clinic might have been there for reasons other than age eligibility, like having comorbidity. Unless you've gone to a strictly age-based system.

DH is going in for hip replacement surgery on Monday. It should be pretty straightforward, but he'll be working from home for 6 weeks or so. As luck would have it, DS will be home to help him with anything he needs. He's usually pretty stoic about things like this, so I don't anticipate the dressing gown of doom making an appearance, but we'll see. Smile

Miss Best wishes to your DH!

I just booked an eye test . I currently have 2 different bifocals and none of them feel right anymore.

Deathraystare · 13/05/2021 17:21

@MissConductUS

Yes we do have Uber (West London) but I think you contact them by app? I am not at all technical. I use a local (to work) taxi firm. This is the only time I nearly vommed in a taxi though!

Good luck to your DH. One of the receptionists is at last going to get her hip done (then later her legs/knees) that was all stopped when Covid first struck.

@Prokupatuscrakedatus

I am actually surprised he managed a 'through run' with all the roads up!!!

Champagneforeveryone · 13/05/2021 19:08

Well today was a strange experience Confused

I'm due to have a coil fitted on Monday on the advice of my GP. This cannot be done at the GP's surgery and I need to attend the sexual health clinic what joy

During my telephone consultation with the (very lovely) nurse, she advised me that they are not currently doing fittings for non contraceptive purposes. As I had already confirmed that DH has had the snip, there followed a strange roundabout conversation where she intimated that I may potentially need it for contraceptive purposes in certain situations.

I have now had to, also in a roundabout way, confess that I may indeed be in these certain circumstances and all is now well and the fitting can go ahead in preparation for my potential affair Hmm

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 13/05/2021 20:07

That is a difference between the NHS system and the German one, I have to keep in mind when reading books, watching films etc. Everything to do with female health, eyes, teeth or children is done by a specialist and you do not need a referal. I have already booked in for my anual checkup (smear, ovaries, uterus, breast) via the doctlib app.

It has stopped raining. But no doubt it will start again soon.

MissConductUS · 13/05/2021 20:34

Champagne, life is so unpredictable, it's best to be prepared for any eventuality. Grin

Prok, it works the same way here. I book an appointment directly with my gynecologist if I need one, no referral is necessary. Years ago insurance companies required referrals from GP's to see specialists, then they determined that it was costing them more money to process the referrals than they were saving by requiring them, so they changed the rules.

theDudesmummy · 13/05/2021 20:35

@MissConductUS no they really were all the same age. The vulnerable and underlying condition people are being vaccinated at the GP surgeries. The age cohorts at the big vaccination centres. And I did ask the receptionist if everyone was the same age and she said yes!

@Champagneforeveryone They will have written HUSSY on your notes in big red letters GrinGrinGrin

I remember a few years ago going to doctors as getting bleeding between periods a lot and the doctor asked me if I was having an affair. Confused Not sure why this was relevant - did he only make cancer referrals for people not having affairs, was he bored and looking for women open to affairs? Hmm I told him no and got a cancer test referral and he said it was because having an affair makes you more likely to have cancer. Seemed a very bizarre screening process.

Just got new laptop and set it up.

Silkiecats · 13/05/2021 22:23

DD said she had seen 5 or 6 mice and she now suspects they may not be all the same sex.

I told her to tell DH as I keep saying and he just says they are cute but this time he said he was going mouse hunting outside. It sounded impressive though we were a little perplexed as the mice DD saw were inside. Mouse hunting seemed to consist of opening the backdoor seeing it was raining and coming back in mouseless after 30 seconds.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 13/05/2021 22:28

It has started raining again!

soddingkitten · 14/05/2021 00:20

Non stop bloody rain here. I’m sick of it. I would not be surprised to find a team building an ark in our local park. I plan to stay in bed for an extra half hour tomorrow morning (later today?) instead of going out for an early morning walk.

We have one bottle of wine left from the case I ordered in a giddy moment in March. I had delayed delivery of the next case by a fortnight will now have to bring it forwards. Blush

Champagneforeveryone · 14/05/2021 00:25

How bizarre silkie, presumably nice monogamous ladies are immune to cancer then?

HelenaJustina · 14/05/2021 06:23

Wet here again this morning. I got soaked several times yesterday and am not looking forward to the same today. Do we think full waterproofs on gate duty is overkill? I wore wellies yesterday (with smart dress/tights) and got some weird looks from dropping-off parents. you try standing out here for 30 minutes every morning and afternoon in all weathers before you judge my footwear

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 14/05/2021 06:47

@Champagneforeveryone
There are statistics that certain types of cancer are / were very rare in groups of a certain usually religiously motivated lifestyles (there is now a vaccine). But the medic in question was out of order and got his logic wrong.

Guess what - rain (Et fisselt - meaning a very soft rain you almost don't notice until you are soaked).

IWanderedLonely · 14/05/2021 07:34

Grey & chilly here. I'm feeling grumpy but I don't know why (apart from the fact that I don't want to go to work).
I was going to buy a large Harry Potter Lego set from Aldi last night to put away for Christmas, but they hadn't arrived in store.

The little sweeper has just driven down the footpath.

Spudlet · 14/05/2021 07:37

DS ate three (count ‘em, 3) peas last night. Some people may think that this is no big deal, but they are people who do not have a DS who has not willingly eaten a vegetable for a good year or more, and that was baked beans. Which he now refuses to eat. Although he did request them the other day, and DH had eaten all the baked beans in the house so we couldn’t give them to him!

Tonight after school I have promised to buy him a magazine. And unbeknown to him, we’ll be trying to repeat this feat of healthfulness. 🤞🤞 I may buy some baked beans on the way home too.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 14/05/2021 08:16

Yay to your DS spudlet - DS has reached the stage where he is up to 3 types of vegetables (carrots raw and cooked, cucumber raw only and iceberg lettuce + oil and vinegar).

I am going in to work on my day off to get some things done and perhaps get a test and buy new headphones for teams.

If you want something less intimate, try your aequivalent of the Institut français, watch French original films on netflix (english + french subtitles, french + french subtitles, without sound for the body language, French only).
Youtube videos where ordinary people do a bullet journal, some organizing etc, talk about food or spiders etc.
Read a lot bilingual editions, books you already know in English.[/quote]
Thanks. I do not think there is one round here but will look to see if there is one in London. Will check out french films online and on Netflix over the weekend. Happy weekend everyone.
In other news my puppy has finally learned to climb onto the couch.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 14/05/2021 10:27

@languagelover96
Congratulations to your puppy
The IF has gone online with their DELF courses at least here.
