Listening to the audiobook version of a Patricia Cornwall Scarpetta book. It is 10 hours long and there are 3 hours left. There’s quite a lot still to wrap up. Scarpetta has just observed that she is ‘not in her 30s any more’. Given that this is about book 20 of a series that started in the ‘90s, I would suggest that this is an understatement: She must be at least mid 60s (if she were a real person, obvs. Grin )

Afternoon all. Advice on some ways (not Duolingo) to learn French properly wanted please. Open to any and all suggestions and tips etc on books too.

Obviously that long ramble about my audiobook was soooo interesting the Internet felt the need to post it twice... Hmm

theDudesmummy · 12/05/2021 14:25

Vax done. Not whether to cancel a virtual lecture I was supposed to give tomorrow or not.

Spudlet · 12/05/2021 14:36

I’ve been ‘discharged’ (not really discharged as such but we’ve agreed I don’t need any more sessions for now) from the physio! She was really pleased with how well my Grumbly Foot has progressed. She suggested regular sports massages to keep everything loose. Interestingly (to me anyway) she did think that the root cause of the all the issues I’ve had with my left leg might come down to my lower back being a bit tight and wonky, which is interesting as I’ve had some issues with my back before, years ago. I guess it’s all connected up, after all, so it makes sense that it could be the root of things.

Marathon training now starts properly! I have three weeks in hand as well so can take a few rest weeks here and there if necessary. Feeling positive about it all, anyway.

This positivity may also be because I just had a coffee with caffeine for the first time in over 12 months 😳😬😂 Am buzzing 🙈

Welcome, @languagelover96, and thanks for posting your calming request. Find a French boyfriend, perhaps? Grin

Squirrel, MN was acting oddly when I posted with the photos earlier this morning. I had to switch browsers and then when I had almost given up it finally posted. Perhaps they had to shovel more coal into the MN steam engine.

It's still happening. I've tried three times to get this to post.

@theDudesmummy, that's a tough call. Most people have pretty minimal side effects from the first jab. The second tends to be worse.

I've had 2 doses of the AZ. After the first one my arm was sore for a couple of weeks, and I had no effects from the second one. Guess I was just lucky.

Apologies for the multiple posts. MN appears to be having a nervous breakdown today.

Tough one! I'd try to give the lecture based on my family's experiences of various vaccines. Of 6 of us who've had 9 shots so far, only one person has had any reactions bad enough to need to cancel anything.

I've reported my duplicate posts, hopefully MN staff will get around to deleting them at some point.

By the way, thank you ZZ for your yeoman's work on the pediatric covid vaccine thread. Smile

DH has just described DS as "annoying drum man"

This has pleased DS greatly for some reason Grin

I've not cancelled anything for tomorrow and feel totally normal right now...

My brother had Moderna and said the second dose was much worse than the first.

You never know. I had Pfizer and had a rare side effect from the first jab (insomnia for two nights) and the second was a doodle. My DD, who also had Pfizer, barely noticed the first and felt poorly for the day after the second.

It's a lovely day here and my hip has been feeling better this week, so as an experiment I went for a 10 minute walk outside. Time will tell if that was a good idea.

I'm glad to see that MN has managed to feed the hampster. Smile

It's all so varied isn't it?
DM (never ill) professed to feeling "ghastly" after her first (AZ) Very few effects after the second.
DH (hypochondriac) was fine after his first (Pfizer) and a bit grotty after the second.
A colleague and her husband were vaccinated at the same time and both had bad but completely opposing reactions.

I can't wait for mine on Friday Grin

Top tips which helped me learn French

  1. French husband
  2. SN child who can't be bothered to do year 9 French lessons so I do them pretending to be him when they are online

More seriously maybe FranceInfo in French to get news in French

Which vaccine did you have Dudes?

theDudesmummy · 12/05/2021 18:59

I had Moderna (in Ireland)
