First marathon training run done. Felt bizarrely nervous about it despite it being the exact same run I did on Friday 🤷‍♀️ The brain is a peculiar thing sometimes!

Also, I got a text from my GP to book my Covid vaccination, so I’m all booked in for Sunday! DH is a bit bottom lip sticky outy because he’s older than me by a couple of years and yet has had no text. I may ring the GP to ask, although DH doesn’t want me to bother them. However he is useless about all medical things so I may overrule him - it might just be that they don’t have his mobile number or something as simple as that.

Spudlet · 27/04/2021 11:51

I should add that he is only bottom lip sticky outy in a humorous and ironic way Grin

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 27/04/2021 12:20

bottom lip sticky outy => "er zieht ein Schüppchen" sth the OWL will probably not teach you Grin

Champagneforeveryone · 27/04/2021 13:08

I just had my invitation too spudlet, though unfortunately the only places with space at the moment are over 30 miles away. It does say to check back so I haven't booked anything yet. DH had his done in the local GP surgery (not ours) which would be ideal, but I will obviously travel if I need to.

prok, a Vax is a brand of carpet washer. Mine has a wiggly hose that means I can also clean anything that stands still upholstery. I'm both mortified and secretly fascinated by the colour of the water that comes out Blush

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 27/04/2021 13:56

@Champagneforeveryone
ah - no carpets here, that explains my ignorance.
But it sounds calmly fascinating. I am old school - damp cloth, on my knees and go - my DM used to declare this my job and make sure I do it.

Champagneforeveryone · 27/04/2021 15:14

We only have carpets upstairs prok which is my excuse for not dealing with them more diligently.

And yes, calmly fascinating is a good description of the process Grin

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 27/04/2021 15:30

My GP mailed be to expect a vaccination appointment, meaning get the paperwork in order, fill out the case history sheet and get my booklet ready.

I got myself trapped on a chair. I stepped up quite easily, got the fresh bed covers down and then my foot refused to do the toe movements to get down again.

I'm now downloading IOS 14.5 and really hoping the 'unlock with mask on' thing actually works.

It does work, I did the update yesterday. You have to enable it in settings. This article explains how:

www.cnbc.com/2021/04/26/apple-ios-14point5-iphone-update-is-out-now-heres-whats-new.html

When I went to settings to do this it told me that my watch needed a software update first, so I did that, then was able to enable the feature in settings.

I then put on my mask to test it. The phone did not unlock on the first try, but it did from then on and now unlocks every time when I'm wearing a mask.

And yes, I am a geek. Smile

I finally got an invite for my vaccine but the nearest centre is 45 miles away. Blow that for a game of soldiers!

Spudlet · 27/04/2021 16:20

DH got a notification through the NHS app but the closest centre was an hour away. My appointment is about 20 minutes away, booked through the code our GP sent to me. So DH is going to wait for his text from the GP too. I did call them and he hadn’t ticked the box that said they’re allowed to text him, so I have authorised them to text him and he should hear from them within the next week. Apparently they select 50 people at random (presumably within a certain age range) to text at a time, so I feel very lucky to have been picked!

Spudlet · 27/04/2021 16:21

@Prokupatuscrakedatus Did you escape from the chair or do we need to form a rescue party?

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 27/04/2021 16:36

@spudlet
No, thank you I am fine Grin I waited around for a while until I got the attention of DS (who ventured out of his room looking for a chemistry text book Hmm) and he got me down.

MissConductUS · 27/04/2021 16:59

DH spent most of a Saturday getting his first covid jab, having to take a train into NYC for it. Of course, that was almost two months ago.

I think the smartest thing they've done here is to distribute the vaccine to pharmacies. That's where both of my kids are getting it and they're everywhere. Some are posting on social media asking people to book their appointment.

I am in the very lucky position of living basically next door to out GP's.

Sending out DS to buy this:

Silkiecats · 27/04/2021 17:18

My covid vaccine is an hour away with no car parking in a town I've been to maybe twice before about 15 years ago. But it does have a lido so I booked swimming afterwards but its only going to be 10C so I will need to turn up for vaccine in a wetsuit as no changing at the lido.

Silkiecats · 27/04/2021 17:21

There was nothing in our county at all - did get an apointment at a pharmacists an hour in other direction in July for 2nd dose though after the first one I may play covid vaccine lucky dip again and cancel it and see what alternatives are on offer.

Sunbird24 · 27/04/2021 17:39

Managed to get a slot on a Saturday only 31 miles away, but it’s 12 miles from my parents so I’ll go to them for the night once I’m done. My second one is only 9 miles from here at a racecourse.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 27/04/2021 17:40

In my family we have driven all over the place for vaccines.

I drove 45 minutes to a shopping mall where they had the National Guard checking people in, and a large setup of people administering shots, keeping an eye on us all for 15 minutes afterwards, and scheduling our second shot. DH went there too.

Two of my teens got their shots at Walgreens - we drove about half an hour for those.

I've booked my youngest in to get his at a hospital clinic about 20 minutes north of here - we were alerted to their program through the high school (he has to have Pfizer because of his age).

I helped DD's boyfriend book his at a big vaccine centre in the nearest big city, in the expo centre.

It has been quite amazing how we've suddenly gone here from appointments being hard to find, to there being more appointments available than needed. There are now quite a few drop-in clinics where you can get a shot as long as you turn up before 3pm.

It seems like universities have suddenly been allocated the doses they were waiting for too, so students can get them easily on-site.

Now I'm really hoping we can send the vaccines out to other countries and get people there vaccinated.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 27/04/2021 17:41

Thanks! Going to set this up now. I wouldn't have known about this if I hadn't read your post.

notagainmummy · 27/04/2021 19:31

Had an upsetting (but positive) email, so I said fuck the rest of the day. Had a long hot bath, listened to some music and let DH take up the slack. Back to business tomorrow.

Champagneforeveryone · 27/04/2021 19:41

Good work notagain, tomorrow is another day and all that Flowers

I had no idea so many people travelled so far for vaccination. Apparently I'm eligible to travel to the Isle of Wight for mine - ABROAD!!

Squirrel26 · 27/04/2021 21:09

Smashed the corner of the iPad screen by dropping a pasta bowl on it (not entirely sure how that happened. I was holding them both and sort of smashed them together.)

The iPad still works though. And also is about 10 years old, so I'm not devastated. The pasta bowl is fine, btw.

MissConductUS · 27/04/2021 21:13

Squirrel, fate is telling you that it's time for a new iPad. If you want something cheaper I love my Amazon Kindle for watching videos and light web surfing.

I dutifully prepared my foot bath and dropped my headphones in.
They still work but feel funny.
