Had my first covid shot yesterday, slept well, woke feeling fine. My left arm feels slightly bruised.

Against all of my previous experience and better judgement, I bought a wilty, anemic-looking basil plant in the supermarket when I went out for the weekly shop. It survived the night but will now have to face the rigours of repotting.

mathanxiety · 25/04/2021 17:24

@MissConductUS, I highly recommend the costco Flonase for your allergies - DS bought for me last year and I think it retrained my nose.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 25/04/2021 17:27

DH's supermarket bought basil plants are exhausted after spending three years with us. He's trying to make new ones grow from seed, we'll see Smile

Champagneforeveryone · 25/04/2021 17:41

We had fun Smile
The bus refused to stop for us (apparently it was my fault for not sticking my hand out, I assumed standing by a bus stop would be enough Hmm)

As it turns out we had a lovely walk along the beach and back through the dunes. DDog2 did lots of barking but no biting always good, and the obscenely expensive trotter gel seems to have saved her pads.

In other news ChampagneCat has left the building through the magical portal. DH is hovering anxiously outside like an expectant father Grin

HildaTablet · 25/04/2021 17:58

Prok my top tip for supermarket basil is to pinch out a few of the tips of the old knackered plant (a stem about 4-5cm long) and put them in a small jar of water on a windowsill. Before long they should start to grow white roots along the underwater bit.

Then just pot on into a bit of compost and you've got a new little basil ready to grow away. My last supermarket plant lived for well over a year and spawned about five new plants this way.

I took my granddaughter the park with her dad my SS. We had a nice time.

My chihuahua chased a big dog. May have been an American pit bull or something similar and they played really nicely together with the big dog taking care and being very gentle with my small dog. Was really nice to watch how gentle this big dog was.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 25/04/2021 19:01

Hilda DH's seeds have already sprouted tiny tiny basil plantlings. I'll sneak bits off the old plants next week and try your suggestion.
DH is usually very lucky with his tomatos, chilis, and herbs. My job are the 'bee-feeders'.

Champagne So you had a lovely day - great!

HildaTablet · 25/04/2021 19:55

Sounds as though your DH has good green fingers, Prok Smile I'm too lazy and can't be bothered to prick out lots of tiny plants if I grow from seed!

DH is trying out the new sofa covers. He says he's not going to put the large sofa cover on the large sofa, he's going to put the small sofa cover on the large sofa and see if it fits. I bought a small sofa cover for the small sofa and a large sofa cover for the large sofa. I'ld be very surprised if the small sofa cover fits the large sofa but I think its a process DH has to go through.

Squirrel26 · 25/04/2021 20:31

I've had my hair cut. I had about 5 inches taken off the ends and I can now see out from under my fringe.

The dog has killed the duvet. I think he was angry I shut him out of the kitchen while the Ocado man was here. I'm going to have some chocolate (thanks Ocado man!) and not think about it.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 25/04/2021 20:34

silkie you have to give him the opportunity to learn and explore Smile

soddingkitten · 25/04/2021 20:36

I’ve had 3 walks today in an effort to beat insomnia and get a decent night’s sleep tonight. I feel nicely relaxed and hopeful that it’s done the trick.

After 20+ years together and numerous underwhelming gravy episodes DH mastered gravy granules and achieved a good consistency today. He shared the secret of his breakthrough with me: reading the instructions on the pack.

Sodding is on the cat tower thrashing his tail in frustration at not being able to get at the magpies in the tree outside.

Silkiecats · 25/04/2021 20:41

I just asked DH if you are putting the small sofa cover on the large sofa what are we going to put on the small sofa? Then DH thought and he said I have a plan I could put the large sofa cover on the large sofa and the small sofa cover on the small sofa.

Champagneforeveryone · 25/04/2021 20:53

sodding, I can feel your joy. Last week, after 14 years together, DH made perfect Yorkshire puddings. I was mortally hungover after our first opportunity to meet friends in however many months, and had also had to do an early shift. I have honestly never found DH more attractive Grin

MissConductUS · 25/04/2021 21:54

Thanks for the tip, Math, but I'm already using the equivalent generic from BJ's. I think I'll have to go to twice a day with it.

Squirrel, five inches off is a lot. How long is it now? Sorry to hear about your duvet. Animals do get angry with us. We had a cat years ago who would get really mad if we went away for more than a day or two. Upon our return, she would ignore us completely, just pretend we didn't exist. It was funny to watch.

I'll have to google gravy granules. We make gravy with a special flour called Wondura that is very, very finely ground. I mix it with some water to make a slurry then add that to the drippings and simmer.

Off to Zoom with DD and MIL! Smile

DH still hasn't put the sofa cover on as he made 2 phone calls to France and now he says the sofa has a stain on it which needs to "soak" over night. Remember discussing this at work and everyone found it was only the men who left things like pans "to soak" overnight hoping they self clean. This is a leather sofa. Hmm And he's not reading the instructions of how to put it on he's just going to look at it then look at the sofa. But he's doing it himself and doesn't want me to help.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 25/04/2021 23:58

Reading instructions..... DH never does. He expects me to read them and then explain the rules to him.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 26/04/2021 03:21

I love your deck Miss Conduct. I have deck envy!

Squirrel26 · 26/04/2021 09:47

It’s still shoulder length, @MissConductUS. My hair grows REALLY fast and I left it a bit longer than normal when I had it cut in December (that was an error...) Sooo much easier to wash this morning!

Silkiecats · 26/04/2021 10:43

Black bin has been collected and was full, that makes me strangely happy when its full like we have achieved its full potential.

I have opened a new current account as you could get an incentive but it won't let me transfer old to get incentive and all my card readers are broken so now wondering if should have bothered.

Yesterday was World penguin day 🐧

Spudlet · 26/04/2021 10:48

The de-rusting process on my ‘new’ mountain bike is going very well. However I’m experiencing brake buying paralysis as I just can’t make a decision, and I think I am also going to need to replace the front derailleur as the spring has snapped and I can’t seem to buy a new one. I need to sort myself out as until I have these parts I can’t go any further with sorting it out.

We went to the woods again at the weekend and DS was really brave going through a couple of bomb holes (not sure if they are actually bomb holes or geological features left from the last ice age, but they’re basically bloody big steep holes!). He fell off once but DH was running beside him so caught him as he went. I was too wussy to even try that one Blush

Squirrel26 · 26/04/2021 11:26

‘Derailleur’ is such a good word.

Er, what would I need one for??

Spudlet · 26/04/2021 13:06

It’s a lovely word, isn’t it? It’s the thing that moves the chain between gears 🙂
