What will happen when the Queen dies???

Just pondering after Phillips death.

My view is the country will lose a lot of it's stability for a period of time, and I say that as a closeted Republican. She's all anyone alive has really ever known. It will be quite a time of massive change that's for certain.

The national anthem, money, names like HMRC - Will these all change overnight??

Nothing will change. The Prince of Wales will be crowned George V11 and we go on as before. The Queen is dead, long live the King.
Why not Arthur III?

We haven't had an Arthur for a looooong time.

Hopefully we will peacefully transition to not bothering to fund a royal family because support for that has dwindled considerably.

The Coronation was dead boring though. We had a telly with a nine inch screen and loads of people crowded in to our sitting room to watch. There was a parade up the High Street with floats and people in soggy costumes. I had a new dress in pale green waffle nylon. 😊

She’s the wife of the Earl of Mountbatten, the grandson of the Earl who was killed by the IRA.

Her late MIL, Patricia, (who inherited the title from her father as it was set up that way when he was given it) and her Aunt-in-law Lady Pamela were/are Philips cousins and he was brought up close to them.

Penny herself was Philip’s carriage driving partner and close friend for many years. She’s one of several women that certain newspapers have suggested had an affair with Prince Philip (gossip which conveniently ignores how close she is to the Queen).

I’ve got a holiday in a non-English speaking country planned for that week, whenever it comes. The enforced public grief-fest will be intolerable. Last weekend was bad enough.

I was living in Indonesia when Diana died. The Indonesian national TV just streamed CNN for 24 hours straight.
The alternative channel streamed BBC1!.

Quite handy for us, who wanted to know what was going on!

It's the "Queen's Gallery" as in the pictures belong to her. So it may well change its name when we have a King instead.

Archie could be POTUS. The requirement is natural born citizen, which can include people born abroad who have an American parent.
Wow, you're quite right and the Ted Cruz case seems to provide a fair amount of weighting to any attempt for little Archie to become HRH President Prince Duke Archie...Grin

We spend 12 days in mourning. The bbc must dedicate their shows to the queen. There’s a ton of stuff. Google it. It’s interesting

Also I don't think Charles will choose a different regnal name than what he has been known as all his life. I think it might have been a possibility when he was younger, but he is likely to have a short reign, and I think he would probably want his own "brand" on it.

How are people so confused by *@viques*. She said, ‘it WOULD be my third monarch’ Monarch 1: George Monarch 2: Elizabeth (current) Monarch 3: Charles (I.e in the future)
It confused me too, but actually if she'd been alive in 1936 Charles III would be her 5th monarch!

Not sure why he can't stay Charles by the way. OK the first one got his head chopped off but the second one got the monarchy restored. And the Great Plague and Fire were hardly his fault.

My third monarch too. I only just remember the death of George VI (solemn music on the wireless all day) but the Coronation is still quite a vivid memory.

I wonder if William will have an investiture as PoW at Caernarfon Castle? I can't see it, somehow, but it's possible.

I thought it was wonderful. I also watched it as a small child on a tiny black and white TV. It was the beginning of my interest in British history and the British RF.

By the way, I hope people on this thread are suitably impressed that there are those of us on MN who saw the coronation in real time. Smile

My mum remembers it, they were the only family in the village with a TV and they all crowded round.

So odd to think how quickly we would find out compared to then.

I would like it if we just called it quits with the monarchy when the queen goes, but that’s obviously not likely. I too wonder about the changing of all the money and that, and how much that’s going to actually cost.
We will become much closer to it. Straight after the period of mourning, there will be a lot of talk about getting rid of the monarchy.

No, he's never announced anything. It's just been reported/speculated.

My dp is a TV newsreader person. They all have their protocol to follow. I don't think he's told me anything that's not already common knowledge though, I've never thought to ask him!

Charles never announced that he would take George as his name. Supposedly he floated it about among some people close to him, possibly as a courtesy to the Queen Mother and it leaked. It was a long time ago and nothing has come out about it since, if I remember correctly.
