What will happen when the Queen dies???

Just pondering after Phillips death.

My view is the country will lose a lot of it's stability for a period of time, and I say that as a closeted Republican. She's all anyone alive has really ever known. It will be quite a time of massive change that's for certain.

The national anthem, money, names like HMRC - Will these all change overnight??

I haven’t watched the full interview with Oprah, but I wasn’t sure if those articles of H&M implying that Archie wasn’t made a prince straight after birth as some kind of birthright or they meant when Charles becomes King, the powers that be would prevent Archie from being a prince and that they thought either way it was race related? Anyone who has watched it actually know or was that never made clear? I’ve only watched snippets but I don’t think I can stay awake for the full interview.

From watching it my take is that there was a belief by Harry and Meghan that all of grandchildren would be treated the same, so they thought LP’s would be issued titling their children as Prince/as from birth in the same was the 2012 LP’s titled William’s younger children.

There’s no way of knowing 100% if that was an assumption or something that had been discussed (personally I think it was an assumption) and changed as it got tangled up in the security issue.

Meghan also outright said that she was told there would be changes made so that he didn’t become Prince when Charles became king either.

@LEMtheoriginal

Nothing will change. Charles, or william will be king and we'll carry on as normal. Migjt get a bank holiday i guess 🤷🏼‍♀️
We will get two. One for the funeral and one for Charles’s coronation. Most people will also get sent home from work early on the day her death is announced.
katand2kits · 15/04/2021 18:57

Hopefully the idea of having a king after so long of having Liz2 on the throne will weird people out and we will move towards abolition.

JustLyra · 15/04/2021 18:57

Also Charles shrinking of the monarchy was never, ever (imo) going to include his grandchildren not being titled

His shrinking was making clear that the children of Andrew and Edward were not going to be working royals.

It was about focussing on his line. That would undoubtedly have included both his sons and their families.

Maireas · 15/04/2021 18:57

Archie was born to an American citizen though. I'll have to look that one up! Intriguing.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 15/04/2021 18:59

@VettiyaIruken

She'll have a big funeral, we'll get some days off work, there'll be lots of black, Charles will be crowned and we'll have to remember it's now God save the king.

Thanks . . .

Anything else, do you think? I want to get ahead of the game here.

PicsInRed · 15/04/2021 19:01

@Maireas

Archie could be Lord Archie, the Earl of Dumbarton, but his parents chose for him not to use the courtesy title. On his grandfather's accession, they may choose for him to be styled Prince. It would be interesting, as he, and his sister, is/will be US citizens and entitled to run for President!
Only little sis will be eligible to be POTUS as she will be born in the United States. Foreign born citizens are ineligible hilariously it's said this clause is designed to stop exactly this scenario, a member of the royal family retaking the USA via the presidency.

Archie will be a Prince and a Duke though, and he'll probably take up banking, so no doubt he'll be fine. Grin

CovidCorvid · 15/04/2021 19:02

Any new post boxes will be CR on them.

veeeeh · 15/04/2021 19:03

Oh I might as well join in the speculation. I think there will be mourning, there will be a look back over her long life (that we mostly know about anyway), and so on. The BBC will be grim faced and deferential, that's ok, that's what they do.

Then Charlie takes over if he is still alive and well, HMQ might live on and on and Charlie might not be so robust, who knows.

I read somewhere that Charles' florid complexion is the result of Rosacea, not HBP, but again, who knows.

SunshineCake · 15/04/2021 19:03

I just hope that people who are really against the Monarchy etc have the grace to allow those who are upset by the Queen's death allow them that with no sneering. But I'm certain that won't happen.

JustLyra · 15/04/2021 19:05

One small change that will happen when the Queen dies and Charles becomes King is that William and Harry will be HRH The Prince William and HRH The Prince Henry as they’ll be children of the monarch.

William will also be Duke of Cornwall automatically.

A commemorative coin. Possibly teatowels. No, knowing the English love of an annual teatowel, there will absoutely be teatowels.

And crockery, silverware, clocks and all varieties of associated garish tat.

Buy shares in bunting. 🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩

Maireas · 15/04/2021 19:08

Good points, @PicsInRed!

SenecaFallsRedux · 15/04/2021 19:10

Archie could be POTUS. The requirement is natural born citizen, which can include people born abroad who have an American parent.

StillWeRise · 15/04/2021 19:11

Lets hope the BBC have learnt their lesson and understand that we still want to see Gardeners World.
BBC News Channel is there for a reason.

GizmoBasil · 15/04/2021 19:13

Almost 2/3 of the population across all age groups support having a monarchy including almost half of 18-24 year olds

Tbf I thought it would be less than that

Thanks, Seneca, I think you cleared that up for me on another thread! I was sure that was the case!
Peregrina · 15/04/2021 19:19

I don't understand all this stuff about Penny Mountbatten.I didn't know there were still any left.

SunshineCake · 15/04/2021 19:20

@SallySycamore

Why? Princess Anne's children are plain Mr Phillips and Mrs Tindall so why should Archie's title change?

That's because Anne's female, and it's only the children of sons who are Prince and Princess when their grandparent is Queen/King.

😂🙄at such confidence when totally wrong

Coronations are some time later though. It was over a year for the present Queen's and we all went to parties (in the local pub as it rained all day). I have lost my coach and horses but DH still has his mug. 😊
The "Charles will change his name to George" is often said on Mumsnet, but I have never seen real evidence for it. The early Georges also had a few problems, but I really can't see that any of it is relevant a few centuries later. I don't remember it being said at all when he (and I) were young.

Pyewackect · 15/04/2021 19:22

Nothing will change. The Prince of Wales will be crowned George V11 and we go on as before. The Queen is dead, long live the King.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 15/04/2021 19:24

What about those commemorative plates you hang on the wall? The limited to 20,000,000 edition ones?

Would you recommend shares in the Franklin Mint?

SunshineCake · 15/04/2021 19:25

@Geranibum the gallery won't have to change. There is still a hospital named The Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother iirc and also, a Princess of Wales one too I think.
