My dd4 has a speech delay, she’s trying her hardest to tell me about her friend at school but she keeps saying “Sharon” and when I repeat the name she is getting angry because it’s not right! I can’t think what it could be!

Help me lol it’s driving both of us insane!

I googled.. There is a Saran name for girls..
No one under 60 will be called Sharon...
Will they?!🤐

MedusasBadHairDay · 13/04/2021 20:55

It's so difficult for them isn't it? DS was speech delayed, he's 9 now and still can't pronounce all the letter sounds properly (unless he really concentrates), but at least he's much clearer now. I remember how upset he'd get when we couldn't understand him, and he couldn't physically make himself any clearer.

Your DD sounds adorable fwiw.

mamajules32 · 13/04/2021 20:56

'Come on'?!

PivotPivotPivottt · 13/04/2021 20:59

Charlotte? I suppose it depends on your accent but to my Scottish ear and with a speech delayed almost 4 year old I can imagine her saying Charlotte like that.

vdbfamily · 13/04/2021 20:59

could it just be" someone" ?

Jent13c · 13/04/2021 21:00

I would put money on the name not actually beginning with an S. My 4yo is not speech delayed but we have moved to a new place where there is a very strong accent he is not used to and he swore to me that he had a boy called Swift in his class...turns out it was Findlay. Also No was actually Noel Grin. When he was first learning to talk he constantly constantly said Mmmmbah and it honestly took us months to guess that it was his cousins name...Ruby!

TLKlover · 13/04/2021 21:02

I hear Sally-Ann, my 11 year old daughter heard Cheyenne.

I hope you get to the bottom of it OP

Notmoresugar · 13/04/2021 21:02

In the kindest way how can you possibly call a 4 year old speech delayed!!??

lambsandlion · 13/04/2021 21:04

Joanne, I reckon

CrushedVelvet · 13/04/2021 21:05

I heard Seren on the first video and Sharon on the second.

Gwynfluff · 13/04/2021 21:06

S is often used instead of an F sound

YouNoob · 13/04/2021 21:06

Shannon
Siobahn
Sawan

One of mine had a speech delay and disordered speech too. Speech therapy was a godsend. Won't shut up now. Grin

DyeHard · 13/04/2021 21:06

Agree with the other posters saying Siobhan (she-vawn).

99redspottedducks · 13/04/2021 21:08

Saffron?

4 year olds should have vocabulary of between 250-500 words, speak in compound sentences and be mostly understood.

What's your point here?
GizmoBasil · 13/04/2021 21:11

She sounds adorable OP Smile

My step son, 9, has had speech therapy since he was about 5. When I first met him it's true to say I barely understood a word he said. He still pronounces his 'Ch' sounds as 'S'. He found it very funny when he said he wanted to play Chess and it came out as wanting to play sex Confused

He's honestly so much better now, i still have to translate the odd things and hopefully it's not just because I'm used to it.

Hope you get to the bottom of it, SALTS can work wonders.

ShoesOnFirstThenCar · 13/04/2021 21:11

I’ve just played.the clip and I heard Saran (which is welsh, girl in my school had that name), however DD who is non verbal but repeats things she hears said “someone”.

GoToSleepBabyPlease · 13/04/2021 21:11

Only 250-500? That doesn't seem like a lot for four.

Toastedsesame · 13/04/2021 21:12

Its not Rowan or Roanne is it?

My DS was telling me about a girl called Ella-Fella that pushed him. It took me weeks to work out it was Isabella.

Their speech development is delayed. It’s not rocket science.

My 5yo is the same, his vocabulary increases but he still struggles to pronounce some sounds/words coherently.

Sassysally12 · 13/04/2021 21:12

Saran?

Theglassmakerofmurano · 13/04/2021 21:14

Sharan pronounced shar-Anne

Shouldbedoing · 13/04/2021 21:14

I immediately thought 'someone '

Colouringaddict · 13/04/2021 21:15
