My dd4 has a speech delay, she’s trying her hardest to tell me about her friend at school but she keeps saying “Sharon” and when I repeat the name she is getting angry because it’s not right! I can’t think what it could be!

Help me lol it’s driving both of us insane!

Ciaron?

Gobbeldegook · 13/04/2021 22:33

I hear 's' 'ah' and 'wahn'

Perhaps it's Sawan?

At first it sounds like 'sh' but when you listen to it over and over I'm sure it's 'S'

Speech delays are hard work, I always found singing the sounds with silly alliteration songs and actions helped with pronunciation. Like "Ch Ch Charlie chimp chomps chips with Ch Ch cheeky Chelsea Cheetah"
I know that's not what you asked for, but thought it might be helpful as a strategy. Helped dd1 immensely and her friends too.

I'm hearing Sarah. (It sounds to me like the final 'n' is just an inbreath at the end of the word.)

HairyFeline · 13/04/2021 22:36

My DD has same issue and her ‘s’ can be the ‘g’ or a ‘d’ initial sound; so Darren would be Sarren, for example.
She also says sh*t instead of sit, which can be awkward 🤣

Farren?
Fallon?
Carrie-Ann?

Or could it possibly be a non English name?

We kept trying to work out the real name of DNieces "boyfriend" at nursery. We refused to believe he was called Emra. Convinced she must have it wrong.

He is called Emra (Emrah?) He is Turkish 🤦‍♀️

MargaretThursday · 13/04/2021 22:42

It could be she's saying a different word to the name too.
I told my dm that there was a boy at playgroup called "Instrument". He was "Vincent". Grin

I think non-English.

Sana fits well.

It sounds like it’s a Fricative at the beginning so f, sh, s, z, or v, a r or l in the middle and a n or m at the end.

Fallon? Shalom?

I’ve a little boy 5 a twin with problems with the same sounds. At speech therapy. Makes me sad and guilty sometimes seeing him struggle especially when he says that the other kids in school dont talk to him. Otherwise getting on great. He’s a little gem and great in school at phonics reading and spelling - which I’m very surprised about. Xx

Seven ?

LizzieSiddal · 13/04/2021 22:54

Could she write it down?

RaiseTheBeastie · 13/04/2021 22:54

After the second video (and Welsh accent?) it definitely sounds like Siwan to me op.

Aberteifi · 13/04/2021 22:55

how about siobhan

Snugglepumpkin · 13/04/2021 22:58

Would she be likely to drop sounds from the middle?
To me it sounds like she's saying Sal-anne, so perhaps Sallianne/Sally-anne in the second clip.

Gobbeldegook · 13/04/2021 23:01

I keep listening. Sometimes I hear sawad/zawad too.
Zara crossed my mind but I don't think so.
Is it definitely a child? Could it be a staff member? My kids refer to their teachers as friends.

RolloverRollover · 13/04/2021 23:02

Oh I really need to know the answer !!

Siobhan?

DIshedUp · 13/04/2021 23:02

Rowan? Definitely not Joanne?

Phoenix76 · 13/04/2021 23:03

To add to it, could it be a nickname the little girl is known as? Other than that a lot of what I thought it sounded like have already been mentioned. I have to agree with the others, your dd has a beautiful voice and please don’t worry about the speech delay, I remember still as a young child accompanying my younger sister weekly for her speech therapy sessions, now she’s in her forties and you’d never know, she has become a very articulate, very successful business woman (well known for all the right reasons within that industry).
