Disappointed that Morrisons have stopped 10% teachers discount without notice

It is a trek to get there to shop, but I did it once a week or so and even put the app on my phone so they could scan the discount barcode.

Then, last time I visited and did my big shop, the app didn't show the barcode and this is when I first found out that Morrisons had stopped the discount the day before.

I did not receive any notice or warning and this is why I am disappointed. If I knew in advance I still would have shopped there occasionally for the butchery and offal meats (its a marvellous selection) and not for all my shopping (Aldi is my usual and walking distance from home).

I wish Morrisions have put a notice at the entrance to warn us because of the short notice, but I guess that would not be good for business.

Disappointed they've stopped it, or just that they did it without notice?

CateTown · 13/04/2021 17:59

I'm disappointed they ever did it.

Bluebird2021 · 13/04/2021 18:01

so you aren't even intending on staying loyal to them? running back to Aldi for all except for a bit of meat....

PandoraP · 13/04/2021 18:04

I didn’t know teachers got discounts in supermarkets. Why?

user1491404899 · 13/04/2021 18:08

It was terrible idea! Why should teachers get a discount?!?

ScaryMimeker · 13/04/2021 18:10

Why on earth were teachers getting discounts?

OverTheRainbow88 · 13/04/2021 18:10

Oh OP, you’ve started a perfect platform for the teacher bashers to Wade in and get on their high horse

Shopliftersoftheworldunite · 13/04/2021 18:11

Surely it's a 'nice to have' rather than a thing to moan about, OP?

I'm in no way a teacher basher, but come the fuck on.

OverTheRainbow88 · 13/04/2021 18:12

@Shopliftersoftheworldunite

I think OP was disappointed they hadn’t made it clear it’s stopped and may have shopped else where or spent less

PembrokeshireDreaming · 13/04/2021 18:12

They sent numerous emails detailing the changes to the More scheme. It wasn't just done overnight with no notice, I have known about the changes for a while (get the NHS discount, it used to be 10% off online orders as well as instore but now NHS get free delivery online instead).

CateTown · 13/04/2021 18:13

Ha! Less than 10 posts in and someone's already throwing the teacher bashing accusations around! If we're bashing anything it's Morrisons.

GroggyLegs · 13/04/2021 18:13

It was a 'thank you' designed to cunningly lure teachers away from their usual supermarkets to Morrison's!

Alternista · 13/04/2021 18:14

It was a ridiculous scheme in the first place, I’m glad it’s stopped.

GeorgesGreenDinosaur · 13/04/2021 18:15

Well this is going to be interesting...

bonfireheart · 13/04/2021 18:15

All sorts of demographics and jobs get discounts. Kinda like students getting students. Why should students get discounts but not non-students? Even as a Vodafone customer I get all sorts of discounts on non-vodafone products. Same with British Gas. All sorts out of discounts are given by shops. Perfectly fine for shops to give discounts to whoever they want to, teachers, doctors, postmen. Am no I'm not a teacher.

Mistressinthetulips · 13/04/2021 18:16

A special offer that encourages someone to shop there should make its end date clear.
Whether they did and OP missed it or not is unclear.

Without notice, principally. Morrisons are free to make any changes they want, just let customers know, give us notice.

Earlier information suggested that it would be a long term thing, that was why I got the app. I was reluctant to get the app because it had 2 stars out of 5 in the reviews but I would not get the discount without it.

What I really enjoyed though was the 50% teachers' discount for Seasalt.

I think morrisons are still doing 10% off for blue light card.

@user1491404899

No idea, it included all staff who work in schools including kitchen staff, jannies, support staff, cleaners.

Just be grateful you got a discount for a while and move on 🤷🏻‍♀️

WestendVBroadway · 13/04/2021 18:21

I am a teacher and it was a wonderful bonus to receive the discount. Every week when I shopped I enquired if the discount was still running as I did not want to assume I was forever entitled to it. It was just a bonus however, not a God given right. Just be thankful that you got it in the first place.

MarchXX · 13/04/2021 18:21

It worked because I never would have gone to Morrisons otherwise. I found out that they have great offal including marrow bones, fresh chicken livers (I make pate), hearts, kidneys and other delights. I will still make the journey there to shop for meats but not weekly.

I didn't get any notification, and the last time I had shopped there I had a chat with staff and they didn't say a word about it stopping. It just happened quickly.
