A friend told me today that they've finally named their new Shih tzu puppy who they got a week ago. He's gorgeous and fluffy and they've chosen the name Monkey! I know it's none of my business but I really don't think that name suits him and it sounds a little bit silly... but it's kinda cute at the sane time I guess!

Ceefer and deefer seem to be very popular for cats and dogs respectively. Also Shelly, sheldon and voldertort for tortoises and monty for pythons. I know Victoria Peckham the hen, Minnie the Great Dane, Harriet Jones the hamster, Samantha the giant African land snail and Barbara the KC spaniel.

A cat called Clawdia Grin

A neutered male Siamese cat called “Two Less”, when I was as a child. It was said as one word, so I thought that the name came from Siam (now Thailand) and didn’t make the connection until I was older.

TheVanguardSix · 11/04/2021 14:31

Two dogs. One called Burnt Toast and another called Picnic.

TheTestOfTime · 11/04/2021 14:31

Also Rover the budgie because it was very fierce - it once saw off a cat that tried to grab it.

I love it when people use boring human names. My Aunt has a dog called Gordon and she talks about it as if it is a human so you’d be forgiven for thinking as much if you didn’t know any better.

I like the family on Gogglebox with the big Rottweiler called Dave.

Norwaydidnthappen · 11/04/2021 14:34

My mum’s friend used to have a dog called God and a cat called tac.

iklboo · 11/04/2021 14:41

My parents called their cat Lickie Wah Wah.

Thankfully he never went out because there was no way I'd be shouting that in the street!

DissABrie · 11/04/2021 14:44

A cat called Princess Pumpkin Fluffypants.
A dog and a cat called Floozy and Discount.

dannydyerismydad · 11/04/2021 15:06

We had friends with a Doberman called Doris.

And I used to ride a horse called Kevin.

CorvusPurpureus · 11/04/2021 15:12

We used to have gerbils at one point called Benson and Butler (RIP Hedges & Lambert obvs Sad).

Passthesauce · 11/04/2021 15:24

We had cats called Stella & Artois. Suited them both.

Also aware of a chicken called Gregory Peck (not mine).

Arrierttyclock · 11/04/2021 18:28

I had 2 guinea pigs called Hop Scotch and Pip squeak. The idea was that they were to be called hop and scotch or pip and squeak but I wanted the full names apparently so that was probably quite odd!

35andThriving · 11/04/2021 18:50

A dog called Ronnie Barker.

SarahBeenysBikerJacket · 11/04/2021 19:58

I once had to take DS2s pet to the emergency vet.

I sat there in the waiting room, and the vet came out and said in a loud voice:

"Ripjaw please".

Everyone looked around for the Rottweiler, or the snarling Alsatian, or possibly the python.

Very embarrassed, I stood up- holding the dwarf hamster.

SavannahLands · 11/04/2021 20:01

My Late Dad had a Jack Russel who's name was The Moo, she had Friesian Cow coat markings, and was a nasty tempered little thing, so the name also came from Alf Garnett, the TV show of the time, who refered to his on-screen wife as 'The silly old Moo!

BakedTattie · 11/04/2021 20:07

I have two cats, one called buddy, one called
Holly

FiddlefigOnTheRoof · 11/04/2021 20:15

I really really wanted to name my cat after a foodstuff but DH refused. He wanted to be dignified when calling the name up and down the street.

MamaWeasel · 11/04/2021 20:16

Our ferrets have always had fairly normal names.....Angel, Marley, Pink, Winnie......but my friend's ferrets are quite another story. Truly Scrumptious, Fuzzyfelt, Norbert Dentrassangle and Eddie Sobart (Bertie and Eddie for short) and another friend has a ferret called Ronald.

notagainmummy · 11/04/2021 20:21

I'm sure I saw somewhere someone called their cat cooking fat... as in fooking cat!
