Why are Oreos so popular?

ODFOx · 09/04/2021 18:00

I don't get it.
They are less chocolatey than bourbons.
They are more expensive than bourbons.
Yet they get mushed into ice cream, smashed into slushies, added to sundaes and loads of desserts. But they just aren't that nice are they?
Or are they? What is it about them that makes them so popular?

I don’t know, @ODFOx - I treated myself to some, thinking they were going to be richly chocolatey and delicious, and I was disappointed. A waste of calories, IMO.

VodselForDinner · 09/04/2021 18:03

Can you really not fathom that people have different tastes to you?

I’m not a fan of Oreos, but understand that others like them.

It’s not difficult.

stickygotstuck · 09/04/2021 18:04

A waste of calories indeed!

Housewife2010 · 09/04/2021 18:05

The Brownie Batter ones are nice. Oreos are often on two for one on Ocado so 50p a packet which is cheap. I'd never eat a Bourbon but Brownie Batter or Peanut Butter Oreos are nice.

pinkpeoniesplease · 09/04/2021 18:08

We buy them because they're vegan...

expectopelargonium · 09/04/2021 18:08

They aren't all that nice imo.

Sh05 · 09/04/2021 18:10

Dairy free ( if I remember correctly)

HalfTermHalfTerm · 09/04/2021 18:11

The vast majority of Bourbon biscuits are vegan too!

They are both delicious, in my opinion.

Damn it - now I’m going to have to buy these and try them, @Housewife2010! It would be rude not to, wouldn't it? Grin

They’re so salty and buttery and chocolatey. I think it’s the sweet and salt together. Nom
Nom

SimonJT · 09/04/2021 18:13

They’re not overly sweet, they’re also dairy free.

Loving my chromatica oreos.

Housewife2010 · 09/04/2021 18:16

They're nice chopped up and baked in brownies. The double stuffed ones make me feel a bit 🤢 though.

CodMouth · 09/04/2021 18:17

I don’t like them, dh does. He dips them in milk.

Ilovemaisie · 09/04/2021 18:18

I eat them if they are there but I wouldn't purposely choose them for myself.
In America they had limited edition Lady Gaga ones that were pink with green (?) creamy stuff. When I saw some in Tescos I was disappointed that it was just the packaging that was pink not the actual Oreo. According to my daughter (age 12 - the one who actually likes Oreos) whatever colouring they used in America for these is banned in the UK. Although she probably got that information from tiktok so not necessarily true.

Try Nigella's smoked chocolate tarte and come back to me.

Oreo is great in stuff like ice cream and baking cheese cakes etc. Also the Oreo egg and spoon boxes and any of the Cadbury bars with Oreo in them. So bloody great! An actual Oreo biscuit is bland and boring though.

BadgeronaMoped · 09/04/2021 18:24

I think they're just aggressively marketed by the delightful Mondelez. Bourbons forever!

PickAChew · 09/04/2021 18:24

Marketing.

TooMinty · 09/04/2021 18:28

I'm not a fan but my kids love them. I am a cheapskate so I buy Lidl Neos instead, I'm told they taste exactly the same...

LegendDairy · 09/04/2021 18:28

I don't know either. They taste like dog biscuits.

StealthPolarBear · 09/04/2021 18:29

My children love them but I agree, dry and tasteless. I'm not keen on bourbon for the same reason but they're worse than bourbons.

StealthPolarBear · 09/04/2021 18:30

Can I be the one to ask the obvious question..
someoneiou · 09/04/2021 18:32

I love Oreos smashed up in icecream.

Bourbons are cheap and nasty 🤢

ginoclocksomewhere · 09/04/2021 18:44

Bourbons > Oreos every time. I have also never understood the fuss!

Besides, it's all about Jammy Dodgers!

NoGoodPunsLeft · 09/04/2021 18:48

They are totally different to Bourbons, they aren't even comparable (except in colour maybe)

I love them crushed on a mister whippy ice cream but wouldn't dunk them whereas bourbon s were made for dunking
