I recently read a book with such a good twist it absolutely floored me. I usually see them coming but this time it absolutely blew my mind.

But now I am in the predicament that my next new book may disappoint so I'm asking for recommendations please.
I love psychological thrillers, mystery, crime and also dystopian and some teen lit.

I really really want something to shock and surprise me again.
Looking forward to perusing suggestions

Hello op!
I’m a total bookworm, always have been but I stuck to chick lit mainly, love Mike Gayle, Sophie Kinsella, Milly Johnson etc etc.

A couple of weeks ago I was on Twitter and Milly Johnson posted about winning some literary award and I was reading about the runners up. One book in particular stood out to me and I was so intrigued i went straight to my Amazon account and ordered it- it’s called “SHE” by H E Warner and I couldn’t settle until I finished it- what a twist! I tweeted the author the next day and she said I had made her day with my comments Grin I am now hooked on psychological thrillers and have found another author ( both of them are British ) who I liked the look of her books and ordered her latest “The Housewarming” by SE Lynes and that was even better.

In the last week or so I’ve had 3 more of hers delivered and I am just gobsmacked at the quality of the writing, the plot twists and completely brilliant characters.

Eitner or both of these will not disappoint you, I’m choosing my next SE Lynes one tonight as I need my fix.

I normally read those genres but I’m almost through Shuggie Bain and it is fantastically written. Not in any way uplifting and I initially thought I wouldn’t gel with the characters but it has completely drawn me in and I’m invested!

CaviarAndCigarettes · 05/04/2021 21:52

@StealthRoast honestly, no apology needed! This is exactly the type of enthusiasm and momentum I'm looking for right now!
I will be checking your author out, thank you

You've probably read them but....

Where the crawdads sing - Delia Owens
I let you go - Clare Mackintosh
Never let me go - Kazuo Ishiguro
Not a thriller but just read it and loved it -The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey

MySocalledLoaf · 05/04/2021 21:53

Sally Lockhart mysteries. The series starts with the Ruby in the Smoke.

NutellaEllaElla · 05/04/2021 21:53

@CaviarAndCigarettes, what was the book you loved so much? Knowing might help people get an idea of what you like.

KingsArmy · 05/04/2021 21:54

I am also ploughing through Shuggie Bain Smile

CaviarAndCigarettes · 05/04/2021 21:54

@Laaaaa I read that one and enjoyed it.
The book I read was called the Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides

Had never heard of him before but it totally led me down the wrong garden path! Rarely happens

Also a recommendation I love to give for a nice "drama" book which I don't usually go for is The Last Days of Rabbit Hayes by Anna McPartlin.
Haunts me still in a nice way

For the ultimate crime book with a fantastic twist book try The Murder of Roger Ackroyd if you haven’t read it.

CaviarAndCigarettes · 05/04/2021 21:57

@Brogues intrigued and downloading, thank you!

@CaviarAndCigarettes

What was the book you read with the good twist please?

StealthRoast · 05/04/2021 21:59

These are the other 3 of hers I’ve read. Highly recommend “The women” it’s bloody brilliant and is the very definition of gaslighting.

Please recommend an amazing book!
CaviarAndCigarettes · 05/04/2021 21:59

@Veterinari it's called "The Silent Patient" by Alex Michaelides

Maybe I'm losing my suspicion but it actually completely threw me and I'm usually really good at spotting the criminal early on

Do chat posts still get deleted after 30 days?
If some I'm gonna have to save some screen shots!

Op I’ve got that here!! The silent patient. My dad dropped it off for me a few days ago. I’m going to start that tomorrow now 😊

CaviarAndCigarettes · 05/04/2021 22:03

@StealthRoast oooh enjoy! I wish I could read it again for the first time!

Brilliant thanks
Thats 2 new audiobook ordered

TheWristBoundLatexBitch · 05/04/2021 22:07

I have the silent patient in my pile to read.

I would recommend the midnight library by Matt Haig.

iusedtohavechickens · 05/04/2021 22:08

The noise downstairs is brilliant!

ZaZathecat · 05/04/2021 22:09

The Farm by Tom Rob Smith. It's a psychological thriller that I couldn't put down.

CaviarAndCigarettes · 05/04/2021 22:12

@TheWristBoundLatexBitch @iusedtohavechickens @ZaZathecat

Thank you! I'm downloading swag and screenshotting too before I break the bank!
