Do some people really not like chocolate?

So met a friend yesterday for a walk and offered her some of my Easter chocolate. She says she doesn’t like chocolate - not doesn’t eat it - but doesn’t actually like it!!
How is this possible? 😂
Please explain if you feel the same!

I like chocolate, but I wouldn't say I love it. I'm not at all keen on solid bars of the stuff, prefer it with something else,e.g. in a cake,or on biscuits. On the subject of not liking foods that you assume everyone loves,I was gobsmacked earlier today when my 14 year old Dgd said that she hates melted cheese! Shock

Caramelsmadfuzzytail · 05/04/2021 20:00

I tried some orange smarties buttons, just before Easter. I like orange smarties. I think they are rank, if I could have picked the smarties out, I would have. The button chocolate was greasy and too sweet. Blech!

I went off it in pregnancy. Just didn't taste nice to me anymore. It took about two years after ds was born to start liking it again but I don't love it as much as I used to.

My teenager doesn't like chocolate. Never has. Used to confuse his grandfather who was obsessed with taking him to buy the newspaper on weekend mornings when we visited and buying him a little pack of chocolate buttons. Bless him. The teen does try it every so often in an attempt to like it but it doesn't work.

KarensChoppyBob · 05/04/2021 20:13

I used to as a child and just went off it in adulthood. The thought of eating a whole chocolate egg seems like effort (!) I have done it recently to join in with family but I just felt sick tbh.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 06/04/2021 08:58

There seems to be a definite correlation between:

Down with chocolate!
&
Cheese? OMG! Gimme!

sunflowersandbuttercups · 06/04/2021 09:03

It depends what kind of chocolate for me.

I like Lindt, Hotel Chocolate, Ritter Sport, ALDI own brand and Green & Blacks.

Can't stand Cadbury anymore - or Galaxy. Both have been ruined in recent years 😭

lollipoprainbow · 06/04/2021 09:08

I don't get the chocolate obsession to be honest, I like the odd bit but I'm more of a savoury lover.

fizbosshoes · 06/04/2021 09:16

Cadbury is nowhere near as nice as it used to be.

Some of us don't like either. As I said earlier, I'd describe myself as ambivalent about most chocolate, but with cheese it's pure revulsion. It's revolting stuff. Smell and taste make me want to vomit, never mind the fact that it's essentially rancid milk, milk being another thing I won't touch.

Cheese, milk, eggs. Boak!

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 06/04/2021 09:32

XDown, Bang goes my theory then! Just shows that you need a proper sample to make such statements. Grin

I wish the government would realise this too...

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 06/04/2021 09:37

Love Brussels Sprouts though.

I think there's something in the theory of supertasters, hence why things like Sprouts are so divisive.
I'm not a picky eater in the slightest, but there are two or three things I just can't eat without gagging. Cheese, milk, eggs, Lemongrass, and honey. That's it. Everything else I'm fine with, although I don't have a sweet tooth at all, hence my apathy for most chocolate.

HappydaysArehere · 06/04/2021 09:41

I so envy people who don’t have a chocolate addiction. They are usually slim and don’t have to watch what they eat.

Meruem · 06/04/2021 09:52

I don’t like chocolate and although DC ate it as kids, they don’t like it either now. There was not one Easter egg bought in this house at the weekend!

I really hate chocolate fountains too. Just seeing them turns my stomach and everyone drooling over it! Bleugh.

Ikora · 06/04/2021 09:58

I almost never eat chocolate, I’m trying to remember the last time I ate it and I can’t. As a child my Easter eggs were not eaten. I don’t eat chocolate ice cream or chocolate cake either. In fact overall I’m just not keen on sweet food at all.

Stratfordplace · 06/04/2021 10:06

I don’t like chocolate or cream and only have a little bit of skimmed milk in tea or coffee. I’ve never bought a bar of chocolate.

OllyBJolly · 06/04/2021 10:11

I went off chocolate during my first pregnancy and never liked it since. Don't like the taste or texture - yeeuch!

Can easily eat a bag of licorice allsorts/wine gums/fruit jellies.

sashh · 06/04/2021 10:13

My niece has only ever eaten white chocolate.

I like chocolate, but I shocked a friend when I said I don't like Pringles.

samenwitch · 06/04/2021 10:14

I like chocolate but I can't eat much of it. Especially not white chocolate- it hurts my throat!

Kimchidreams · 06/04/2021 10:16

I don’t like chocolate either. Never understood the fascination with it. Too sweet and sickly and dark chocolate is just rank. Easter just leaves me cold and being given chocolate as gift is so annoying.

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 06/04/2021 10:19

I am British and don’t like tea.

So anything is possible.

I love good quality chocolate though.

Ariela · 06/04/2021 11:26

I really do not like cheap chocolate. So if it was a Nestle or Cadbury's type egg I'd have said no thank you.
An independent artisan maker's would have been a yes.
But if it was before about 11am no. Chocolate is not for breakfast.

GravityFalls · 06/04/2021 11:32

I love it, and Brussels sprouts too! I think I eat chocolate in some form every single day. I don’t even have the aversion to cheap chocolate some people have - Dairy Milk, Galaxy and those 30p supermarket bars are all good! I only draw the line at Kinnerton. I don’t actually much like chocolate flavoured things like cereal or chocolate milkshake but I do like chocolate cake or ice cream. It’s all good! Basically I don’t think I’ve ever found a snack, sweet or savoury, I didn’t like.

Volcanoexplorer · 06/04/2021 13:20

I love it ordinarily, but went off it when I was pregnant. Even a tiny bit would make me physically sick.

Rainbows89 · 06/04/2021 13:44

I hate dark chocolate but love white chocolate but some people would probably say that it’s not chocolate.

White chocolate mice are my favourite.

These days I’m not that interested in a bar of chocolate.
