Do some people really not like chocolate?

IrishGirl2020 · 05/04/2021 17:45

So met a friend yesterday for a walk and offered her some of my Easter chocolate. She says she doesn’t like chocolate - not doesn’t eat it - but doesn’t actually like it!!
How is this possible? 😂
Please explain if you feel the same!

Oh ice cream and pizza too. Don't like either really.

LynnThese4reSEXPEOPLE · 05/04/2021 17:59

My toddler doesn't like chocolate. I have offered him some whenever his older brother is having it and he spits it out every time. I'm not sure he's really my child....

BeyondMyWits · 05/04/2021 17:59

Chocolate - no... cloyingly sweet, melty goo, makes me cough, I get a burning sensation in my throat too...

much prefer a tub of Pringles. I have not got a sweet tooth.

Sweets are even worse for me.
I also don't like wine at all.

TristantheTyrannosaurus · 05/04/2021 18:01

I don't like it. I like very little that's sweet.

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 05/04/2021 18:01

Totally ambivalent about chocolate. Some of it is revoltingly sickly, Galaxy for example. I wouldn't miss it if it ceased to exist tomorrow and I've never understood why some people crave it like crack cocaine.

theluckiest · 05/04/2021 18:02

Yep. My teenage DS hates it. Finds even the smell of it revolting.

It's a pain in the arse trying to find him a chocolate-free Advent calendar, let me tell you.

Luckily, if he's ever given chocolate by well-meaning people or wins it at school, I get to 'help' him out by eating it for him. Grin

IHaveBrilloHair · 05/04/2021 18:03

Ice cream is too sweet and too cold, I don't like icey things.
I'm beginning to sound weird!

purplecorkheart · 05/04/2021 18:04

My mum does not like it. I am not a huge fan but then I much prefer savoury to sweet.

ineedaholidaynow · 05/04/2021 18:07

I didn't like chocolate as a child, as I got older I started to like it, but mainly what I would call children's chocolate like smarties, milky bar! I still can't eat very rich chocolate puddings or dark chocolate. Never had Easter eggs as a child, would get gifts instead (which I know causes much consternation on here!). Also caused much consternation when I went on French exchange trip which coincided with Easter and my host family desperately tried to find me non-chocolate Easter sweets

Interestingly DS(16) didn't like chocolate when he was little either, but again is starting to like some chocolate as he gets older.

SaucyHorse · 05/04/2021 18:07

I don't really dislike it but I'd quite happily never have it again. I'm a crisps woman.

My daughter doesn't like pizza, it's really annoying.

MirandaMarple · 05/04/2021 18:09

I have no interest in it. If I want something sweet I'll eat a biscuit (without chocolate) or a yoghurt.

NameChangedForThisFeb21 · 05/04/2021 18:09

Honestly when I see piles of chocolate eggs (a lot of my friends send me pictures of their “hauls”) my reaction is that I feel a bit sick when I think they’re imagining I’d be drooling. I find chocolate very sickly and can only manage a few bites. I really can’t identify with people who can eat a box of chocolates or one of the big Cadbury bars in one sitting. And it’s not competitive undereating. I could easily eat a full bag of the share size of crisps or half a tub of Salted Caramel Hagen Daaz. But chocolate and sweets do make me feel really sick beyond a few bites.

altlife · 05/04/2021 18:10

DS is 6 and doesn't like chocolate, sweets or cake.

He enjoys Petits Filous and oat and fruit cookies. The only biscuits he will eat are Digestives, occasionally a Viennese whirl and very occasionally, he will ask for a lolly Grin

He says he doesn't like the stickiness of the chocolate. If he asks for a Kinder egg he will break it for the toy and the choc will be wasted.

We always make things available, especially if we're eating them, but he's never really been interested and that's fine with us

WhoWants2Know · 05/04/2021 18:13

Yeah, I can understand the people who don't like chocolate. I don't mind a bit in baked goods, but I would struggle to get through an Easter egg or chocolate bar.

I do get an occasional craving for Reece's, though.

Temp023 · 05/04/2021 18:14

Aliens are among us.. this is how you tell who they are..!

AgeLikeWine · 05/04/2021 18:14

I like some chocolate. I prefer the good quality high cocoa stuff, but Cadbury’s darkmilk is fine, and I quite like Ritter Sport.

Galaxy isn’t even chocolate. It’s disgusting, inedible rubbish which tastes of sugar & cheap waxy fat. Yuck.

Laytwir024 · 05/04/2021 18:15

The people I know who say they don't like it still eat it occasionally, which I take to mean they're just not obsessed with it and like to pretend they're different.

IHaveBrilloHair · 05/04/2021 18:17

Yes, yes.
At 43 I pretend not to like something to be different Hmm

FloralJammies · 05/04/2021 18:17

I don’t like chocolate or sweet things. I prefer cheese and savoury snacks, I can’t remember the last time I had chocolate. It makes my teeth feel odd and I don’t like the coating it leaves in my mouth.

GreyhoundG1rl · 05/04/2021 18:18

I used to love it, but you couldn't pay me to eat Cadbury's now. And the more expensive ones like Hotel Chocolat have a texture I don't like as well, so I very rarely eat any now.
Still mourn the Cadbury of old, though.

FlyingBum · 05/04/2021 18:18

Both DC are like this, they'll have a wee bit but the prefer the idea of getting eggs/doing an egg hunt to actually eating the chocolate. We still have Halloween sweets, 8 unopened selection boxes and Easter eggs from last year Confused

This isn't some kind of boast about perfect children btw, put any kind of jelly sweets, ice lollies or crisps near them and they'll be demolished instantly.

Tejutas · 05/04/2021 18:19

I love chocolate, apart from Hersheys, which is obviously repulsive.

funtimefrank · 05/04/2021 18:21

I get the burn-y mouth feeling.

I like it but not in quantity. It is rare I get a bar of chocolate or have more than a couple of celebrations etc.

I am big fat biffa too. And have a sweet tooth. Give me cake/buns/sweets or even choc biscuits. Or cheese. Just not choc

Crunchymum · 05/04/2021 18:21

It's not my favourite. I'd choose crisps and cake (only certain cake mind) over chocolate. Also not a fan of ice-cream at all. Does nothing for me.
