Where would it be and why would you pick that area?

Me - Northamptonshire. Lovely countryside, plenty of history, good road networks. London doable by train.
DD- Hull. Lots of facilities, not too far from the sea, the rest of Yorkshire including York, not too far. And cheap houses.

Slub · 05/04/2021 18:06

Yorkshire
Gods own county
Oops!
Already live here
Lucky me!

emmetgirl · 05/04/2021 18:10

Cornwall- I'm lucky that I managed to move here a few years ago.

MrsAvocet · 05/04/2021 18:17

I already live in my ideal location. The only place I would consider moving to is the West Coast of Scotland as that's where my DD lives.

queenofthenorthwest · 05/04/2021 18:36

Where I live now but closer to my parents.

I'm only a mile away now but I would like to live within a two min walk because they are getting older now and I want to be near to look after them when they need it.

thenewduchessofhastings · 05/04/2021 18:39

Filey in North Yorkshire;it's so beautiful and house prices so much cheaper than where I live.

Can't move though due to family/medical issues that mean we have to stick with the schools/hospitals here/kids having roots here/husbands business being based here.Plus we know no one up there.Pipe dreams eh?

I'd say maybe one day we could have a holiday home there but I don't want to be one of those people who price locals out of the market.

BoringBettie · 05/04/2021 18:52

North Yorkshire

MattyGroves · 05/04/2021 18:59

London. Second choice would be Bristol.

I just love being in a city with stuff to do.

Would hate rural life- having to drive everywhere and to be so far from cultural things

Yuddiesorno · 05/04/2021 19:06

@BadMudda - you're the first person who I've seen on these type of threads that sounds like me!

Also born and bred Londoner with family there for couple of hundred years but have now been living in the sticks for 20 years with no regrets.

I don't buy into the idea that you can only be happy in one place either. Places have differing appeals at different times in your life.Smile

Grange over Sands

blowinahoolie · 05/04/2021 19:30

Isle of Lewis. Very remote.

Poorlykitten · 05/04/2021 19:31

Not Grange over Sands but Arnside would be a great choice. It’s so lovely there and a great sense of community.

Poorlykitten · 05/04/2021 19:32

@MattyGroves we do have some culture in the country. 😉

MrsAvocet · 05/04/2021 19:50

Indeed Poorlykitten. There is always loads going on in our village and local area. (Well pre covid anyway). In recent times I've seen a number of quite well known classical musicians perform locally as well as some very interesting touring dance performances. But I am happy to let people think it is a cultural desert because otherwise everyone might want to move here and the lack of people is one of the best things!

Poorlykitten · 05/04/2021 19:56

We have a dedicated arts hub nearby and rural touring cinemas and fabulous bands playing in very unusual locations, plus a lot of parties on the hillsides (pre covid obviously). Plus our own festival but yes, cultural desert! 😂

weegiepower · 05/04/2021 20:53

Where I currently live in Bristol. I've lived all over the uk and grew up just outside London and went to uni in London. I've lived up north and Home Counties, family all in Devon but for me Bristol feels like home and I love it here. There's so much going on but doesn't feel overwhelming.

Thursa · 05/04/2021 21:40

Orkney or Shetland. Mostly countryside, the sea, scenery, history. And a week in Edinburgh every year. Absolute heaven!

GoWalkabout · 05/04/2021 21:59

It's funny when people choose your home town, maybe that's why it's hard to like other places when we go on holiday! Currently I am dreaming of the peak district.

Jasmin82 · 06/04/2021 01:05

I'd love to live in or near Seahouses. On the coast, so near a beach for Resident Collie. I like living in a city, but the noise can sometimes be too much for me. I'm happy to trade convenience of shopping for less stress.

Tillygetsit · 06/04/2021 02:37

The Wye Valley. Just gorgeous and the people are so lovely.

blowinahoolie · 06/04/2021 06:26

Great minds. I would take Shetland or Orkney for same reasons. It's just a simple way of living. Anywhere remote where there are beaches to walk on, with tranquility.
