Where would it be and why would you pick that area?

Newcastle/ County Durham - has everything I want/need - variety of amazing food and drink places, city life, country life, natural beauty spots, museums, shopping centre (although metro centre is a bit up in the air last I heard). Desperate to get back down there and take the dog for the walk around beamish museum! Hope they let us out of Scotland soon.

Norwich. Good cultural scene and green / lefty vibe, affordable, near gorgeous countryside.

Equimum · 05/04/2021 09:09

Devon/Cornwall - I just love the rugged coast line, the slower pace of life, the pretty villages and it’s just generally my happy place.

Lightsabre · 05/04/2021 09:45

London too - I like Belsize Park, Highgate, Greenwich, Kew. You can find tranquility in London - there are lots of normal, quiet neighbourhoods away from the bustle of the centre of London. It's a very accepting place - no-one bats an eyelid if you're 'different ' in any way. Where we live is brilliant (SE London) - city life in 25 minutes (although we have a nice London 'village' nearby for coffee shops etc) or country and sea in less than an hour. Best of all worlds and great with kids/teens.

We travel all over the U.K. a lot and the other places I've felt a connection to are Brighton/Lewes and places like Totmes in Devon - so again, those 'accepting of difference' type of places I guess.

Lightsabre · 05/04/2021 09:46

Plus the weather's definitely better down South which does make a huge difference too!

Toddlerteaplease · 05/04/2021 09:57

York or Liverpool. Love both cities.

Nonmaquillee · 05/04/2021 10:00

Northumberland without the rain. Love the Alnwick area.

orangejuicer · 05/04/2021 10:02

Cornwall - beautiful landscape and blue sea even in bad weather. And DP's home county.
Scotland next - similar to above. Just beautiful, clean air, quiet.

Littlefish · 05/04/2021 10:05

Cheltenham. I loved living there 20+ years ago. It's just the right mix of culture, shopping, access to countryside, lovely houses etc.

LikeAbatOutOfHell · 05/04/2021 10:09

The Isle of Skye. I only stayed there for 4 days and it was overcast and rainy for the whole time but it was the most beautiful place I've ever seen. I could see myself living there.

Wimpeyspread · 05/04/2021 10:13

Shetland

SweetToffee · 05/04/2021 10:34

One of the islands of the top of Scotland
I want to wear an Aron jumper and have wild hair from the wind. I want snow and cold .
I want chickens and rabbits.

Scottishskifun · 05/04/2021 11:27

😂 Well it's definitely snowy and cold today in Scotland!
The Islands do get snow but not as frequently as parts of the Highlands as they are their own microclimates.

Shetland is beautiful once you get used to no trees being about!

lollipoprainbow · 05/04/2021 11:31

Didsbury, I love the villagey vibe and of course my fav tv show was filmed there cold feet !!

Frownette · 05/04/2021 11:33

Where I got stuck during L1, by the sea. After the initial shock of being stuck and being ill March last year then police telling me I couldn't travel back I fell in love with the place and my lovely (temporary) neighbour. I'd make a cup of tea and take it around to her garden and we'd chatter whilst I admired her beautiful flowers.

BadMudda · 05/04/2021 11:41

It's funny how many people
on this thread choose London..

I left London, a city I was born and bred in, with generations of family born there too, eight years ago.

Best move I ever made.

Horses for courses and all that but if I could choose anywhere it would be rural. Somewhere really rural. Preferably down south.

Didiusfalco · 05/04/2021 11:46

Blackheath. I love the village feel and the open space around it and the architecture.
Jericho in Oxford.
I could never afford either.

BornOnTwelthNight · 05/04/2021 11:54

I had this same conversation in my head the other day. Had a tough choice as there’s so many places I’d love to live. I think my first choice would be Brighton closely followed by Northumberland and then Cornwall!
But tbh would be happy anywhere that was near to the coast

AdoptedBumpkin · 05/04/2021 12:30

I quite like where I am in Derbyshire.

If I was to move, maybe a seaside village.

OnGoldenPond · 05/04/2021 14:05

Dorset or North Devon. Beautiful coastline and countryside.

IdblowJonSnow · 05/04/2021 16:41

If I could move all my friends and family I'd move to Australia. It does have it's flaws but, oh, the weather. I do miss it.

amusedbush · 05/04/2021 16:42

London.

Although I moved from Edinburgh to Glasgow 7 years ago and I love it here, I’d be happy to stay forever. I’m a city person and living rurally doesn’t appeal at all.

StellaAndCrow · 05/04/2021 17:03

The Wye valley. Properly lovely countryside, and can go to Hay on Wye for the book shops.

MissyB1 · 05/04/2021 17:40

@Littlefish

Cheltenham. I loved living there 20+ years ago. It's just the right mix of culture, shopping, access to countryside, lovely houses etc.
Come back to us @Littlefish It's still lovely in Cheltenham! Bit pricey though that's the only issue. I do think about moving somewhere cheaper sometimes.
Littlefish · 05/04/2021 17:55

@MissyB1 I'm only about an hour away, but the houses are just as pricey! I come back quite regularly to meet friends. It would definitely be my preferred place to live if I could convince DH to move (never going to happen!)
