Where would it be and why would you pick that area?

North Wales or somewhere vaguely near Balmoral in Scotland as they are both spacious, less populated and beautiful. Would love to be reasonably near a quiet beach. The only problem with both of these places is the weather.

zeddybrek · 04/04/2021 22:13

London

Have tried to live in other places but I always come back.

Main reason, the energy, the sights and mix of people you meet from all walks of life.

@Chicchicchicchiclana That is a great list, I love it!

quarentini · 04/04/2021 22:16

I already live in the worlds greatest city.
I would never leave Manchester

Luzina · 04/04/2021 22:17

Near my sisters and near the sea. Not London though, I don’t want to live there again.

Sulusu · 04/04/2021 22:18

London specifically Wimbledon close to the tennis club.

Edinburgh such a beautiful city, lived there before and miss it, but no way am I moving back to Scotland under the SNP and it's nerverendums.

North Norfolk coast for somewhere rural like Wells Next the Sea, lovely place.

Gertie75 · 04/04/2021 22:20

Shropshire, I live in neighbouring Staffordshire which I also like.

Being central means nowhere is too far for a short break, there are cities to visit but not have to deal with daily pollution and crowds, it's not touristy so always easy to get around, lots of country parks, forests open spaces.
The weather's usually OK too, we often miss out on big storms, flooding, damaging winds, we do get them at times but not as bad as areas closer to the coast.

The reason we plan to move to Shropshire to retire is that it's less populated and has so many pretty villages and rolling hills.

HelenHywater · 04/04/2021 22:21

Only London for me too. I moved away a few years ago, and moved back after a few years.

Couldn't live anywhere else in the UK.

Warmhandscoldheart · 04/04/2021 22:24

A town or village somewhere along the Yorkshire coast, not far to travel to the countryside. Rugged impressive scenery and the brazing North Sea winds

Megan2018 · 04/04/2021 22:25

Where I live. Rutland/Leics border. I’ve lived in many places inc London and I like it here.

CosmicComfort · 04/04/2021 22:26

Whitby
Love Yorkshire so much and need to be by the sea so Whitby ticks all boxes.

I am trying to persuade soon to retire DH that we could actually move when the dses have settled elsewhere. They are teens. We currently live on the south coast, have no family local anymore and as a nurse I can get work anywhere so one day, we might make it happen😎

Megan2018 · 04/04/2021 22:27

I lived in London, as a student and young adult. Had a ball but you couldn’t pay me to live there now. I loathe cities. Country life is the life for me, minimal people and maximum sky.

katy1213 · 04/04/2021 22:27

London for me, too. Moved here as soon as I could and never looked back. There's nowhere like it.

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 04/04/2021 22:28

London.

Live in Yorkshire, exH lives in Scotland and sees kids EOW, we manage the 2 hours but London is too far away from him. But I LOVE the hustle and bustle, and just the general air and atmosphere of London. Plus I'd get paid a lot more in a job than I am now

Draculahhh · 04/04/2021 22:33

I live in Bradford West Yorkshire now and would love to move to Scarborough. I have always wanted to live there since I was little.

Saz12 · 04/04/2021 22:34

Shetland - somewhere near (but not in) Lerwick. Easy to dry the washing and no midges.

NiceGerbil · 04/04/2021 22:34

I'm nw London, on the edge.

Lovely green spaces
Local type feel (how so many people know each other when there's so many people here is odd... I do go to the pub a lot though when allowed!)
On the tube so everything you can think of not too long, especially since they changed the lines in the 00s!
Its my stamping ground, part of me. I still love Camden and take the kids there- it's v sanitised now though.
Oh and the gigs!
Quirky little museums
Just loads of stuff

I like the busyness although now I'm getting older I can understand why people like a bit more peace.

I can't get the hang of South London at all, and I know loads of South Londoners feel the same about the North!

London isn't one place really, the areas are totally different in loads of different ways

'I would live in Fitzrovia (an area of central London)'
I'd have a nice flat there to hang out in for jaunts up town Grin

RickOShay · 04/04/2021 22:36

Edinburgh. Scotland is magical.

allycat4 · 04/04/2021 22:40

London

JaquelineBeanstalk · 04/04/2021 22:40

Edinburgh. Beautiful city, near the sea and wonderful scenery, my hobby is Scottish dancing, and I could rent out the garage during festival.

wanderedlonelyasacloud · 04/04/2021 22:46

Near Bath, preferably Wiltshire.

I used to really want to move to London but since the pandemic I've gone off the idea. Last summer when we were allowed to travel we did a "staycation" in the cotswolds/wiltshire/bath and I was blown away.

Since we came home I've felt a yearning to go back.

If not there then Canada Wink

lovelyupnorth · 04/04/2021 22:59

You couldn't pay me to live in London. Fucking hate then place. I also hate all the arseholes who when visiting the rest of the country insist on informing everyone that there from London. But at least that gives everyone the chance to double the price.

Love where I live but it's also a long way from that there London.

AnnaSW1 · 04/04/2021 23:00

Ah man., I live in central London and we keep thinking of moving out but I'm so scared we'd regret it. Like all the people here! Shock

WarmAndFluff · 04/04/2021 23:03

For London - Hampstead, near the heath, or Little Venice near the canal. Neither of which I'd ever in a million years be able to afford!

Bloodybridget · 04/04/2021 23:24

It's great to see all the love for London here, quite unusual on MN!

I've lived in inner London all my life, and I still do love the city, but if I had another life, or the expectancy of many more years of this one, I would like to be somewhere else - close to the sea, a small town probably, with lovely countryside around. Love the north of England, and Scotland, but I couldn't manage much colder weather. And the south west is glorious, but too far from family and friends. So Woodbridge in Suffolk, I reckon!

NiceGerbil · 04/04/2021 23:29

I loved living in Manchester when I was at university.

My roots are here though and they are deep.

Also agree nice to see the London love! Threads about London specifically are usually just saying it's awful.
