Where would it be and why would you pick that area?

The Weald - Kent/East Sussex borders. Grew up round there and just love. Gorgeous houses and countryside. I'm a big fan of gentle slopes, woods fields and hedgerows. Would move back like a shot if I won the lottery!

babybythesea · 04/04/2021 16:52

Cornwall. Which is bloody lucky as it's where I do live!
Grew up in London - I like to visit but hate being there for more than about a week. I like going to a beach with the kids every night after school in the summer, and going to the beach on windy days for a dog walk in winter, and living in a little village where we know nearly everyone - Cornwall suits me!

HelloDulling · 04/04/2021 16:55

London. I love it so much. Moved out 15 years ago but would move back this afternoon if we could. I think you’re either a London person, or you’re not.

TenaciousP · 04/04/2021 17:20

Glasgow

SimonJT · 04/04/2021 17:23

I live in central London and I love it.

There are so many things for me and my son to do, boredom literally isn’t an option.

OrangeSamphire · 04/04/2021 17:30

Cornwall or London. I’ve lived in and loved both for many years and finally settled on Cornwall.

Snowdrop30 · 04/04/2021 17:47

Glasgow or Edinburgh - both fab cities with tonnes of culture, gorgeous countryside on your doorstep, but without the giant costs and commutes associated with London.

ConnieCaterpillar70 · 04/04/2021 17:51

We live in rural Gloucestershire, which I've always loved but the villages around us including ours are all victims of mass building. We've had 3 massive housing estates in the last 3 years, all bringing in hundreds of cars, dogs and supermarket delivery trucks. It's completely ruined the place, and we've gone from 150 houses to nearly 500.

I'd like to live on a remote island somewhere in the Hebrides. I've decided that now I'm 50 I don't tolerate noise, traffic or other people very well. I want a quiet beach to wander on with my dogs and not seen another soul for days.

MrsTophamHat · 04/04/2021 17:52

Ambleside, Cumbria

AvonCallingBarksdale · 04/04/2021 17:55

London, with a HUGE caveat that I had the funds to live in a detached house near the river, Barnes for example. We lived in London fir 10 years and I do miss it.
Failing that, somewhere coastal - Cornwall/Devon/Brighton/Gower. We’re Home Counties now, AONB but I’m ready for a change.

MissyB1 · 04/04/2021 18:03

Kent or Sussex, a village with amenities and friendly locals would be good. Weather is better down there and not far from London if you want to visit the big smoke.

knocke · 04/04/2021 18:05

London is a bit vague, I live in London but there plenty of parts I wouldn't like as much as where I live.
I'd love a sea view but would need to take all my family with me.

Medianoche · 04/04/2021 19:55

Ideally and illogically - in the Midlands by the sea. I’ve lived enough places and have enough scattered family and friends to mean every choice is a compromise. Happy where we are and will probably not move again but will always be a little homesick for different aspects of different places I’ve lived (and some places I’ve never lived).

TheMotherlode · 04/04/2021 20:09

If I could afford a nice house with a garden then somewhere naice in London. Don’t know the city that well so not sure on area, although I walked through Maida Vale once and that seemed lovely so I’ll go for that.

Queenie6655 · 04/04/2021 20:11

London or Cambridge

Lived in London but sadly fled with a small baby a while ago
Miss it so much it hurts sometimes

Studied in Cambridge and miss it there too
Summer there is actually heaven - one of the loveliest places

Bloodyfuckit · 04/04/2021 20:15

@Shosha1

Outer Hebrides. Just love it there. Any of the Islands.
Same. Skye, Harris, Lewis or Ullapool and surrounding areas. It's just breathtaking. Trees, hills, mountains, fresh air, white sandy beaches and turquoise waters and fewer people most importantly. Heavenly.
deedsnotwords11 · 04/04/2021 20:33

York (or Harrogate) always loved it round there, voted the best city to live in at some point recently I remember reading an article. So much going on, beautiful old city but not too big, gorgeous countryside nearby. Brilliant area

Tal45 · 04/04/2021 20:38

Marlborough. Beautiful town surrounded by lovely countryside, great secondary school, can get to London or Devon in a couple of hours.
London is the last place I'd want to live though, did it for a few years when I was young, never again. The pollution, dirty grey buildings, incredibly rude and unfriendly people and ridiculous housing prices are just a few of the things to put me off.

Lampzade · 04/04/2021 20:43

Outskirts of London. Somewhere like Hayes or Keston which are on the Kent /London border.
Both are semi rural towns with a village feel, but still close enough to London so one wouldn’t feel that one was missing out.

Milomonster · 04/04/2021 20:50

@TheMotherlode Maida Vale is indeed one of the most beautiful parts of London to live. It’s so peaceful with the huge communal gardens and parks yet so central.

We moved from Hertfordshire to Somerset a couple of years ago and being mortgage free due to the house price change has been fantastic, however we would love to live in Dorset but the large increase in house prices by crossing the Somerset Dorset border is bonkers.
Money and work no object? It would be Dorset

Quornflakegirl · 04/04/2021 20:57

Pre kids, London, I miss it very much.

Post kids, Cornwall. We're on the Cotswolds now and it's a wonderful place to live but I need to be near the sea.

Lovemusic33 · 04/04/2021 20:59

I think I live in one of the best places 😂, if I had to move somewhere else it would be Cornwall or possibly the Lake District. London would be bottom of the list, mainly because I have never lived in a city or even a town and I hate busy built up areas, ok to visit but couldn’t live there.

RiverSkater · 04/04/2021 21:03

@MorningTeas

I can totally see why London as it has everything on your doorstep, I just don't think living in the hustle bustle of it all and the fast pace of life with everything so built up and busy would be for me.

We currently live down south but thinking of going north or maybe further south.

But that's just in town, we live on the outskirts where it's just normal suburban but we can be in countryside or in town in 20 minutes.
