I've been researching my family tree and there are a lot of surnames, mostly usual Irish, Scottish but some interesting ones and it got me thinking about surnames in general.

I always thought Italian surnames are very beautiful, Baccino, Santangelli.

I love ones that are simple such as Flower, Beach and Ocean too.

So, what's the most beautiful one you have ever heard?

Harrington just sounds so 'proper' and makes me think of afternoon tea, love it!
Also like Lappin and Rocks is such a cool surname.
My surname is quite boring

I went to school with Damian Grammaticus. Very clever and very nice. He is married as far as I know (but had 2 brothers!)

longwayoff · 04/04/2021 00:25

I once met a Garth Brownsword. Fabulous name. Just needed a horned helmet and a longship. I like the French St Aubyn and Saint Exupery, again, I like the historical images such names conjure up, medieval Books of Hours come to mind.

dustydaffs · 04/04/2021 00:25

Scattergood is my favourite.

longwayoff · 04/04/2021 00:26

I forgot about my Lovegrove relatives. Wish I could require the name.

I know a Trueblood and a Ravenwood.
SpookieDookie · 04/04/2021 00:29

I know a de la Mer. I want to be of the sea!

louderthan · 04/04/2021 00:31

I also love old Cornish names: Treverton, Tregorran, Pengelly, Carew, Prideaux

dustydaffs · 04/04/2021 00:32

I used to live next door to a woman called Honeyball, she was sadly truly vile.

Marmite0nToast · 04/04/2021 00:36

Honeysett is one of my favourites. I went to school with a Tabitha Topple, which I always thought was a wonderful name pairing!

babbaloushka · 04/04/2021 00:37
@Cheekyweegobshite I think it may have been either Geography, R.E, or P.S.H.E? Or English. It was a while ago!
My Ds knows a young Roseblade, male, midlands, 18/19?

FoxyBadger · 04/04/2021 00:41

I knew a lovely person called Threadgold; she suited her beautiful name.

tunnocksreturns2019 · 04/04/2021 00:44

My grandmother’s surname was Kindlysides Smile

JeremyIronsBenFolds · 04/04/2021 00:50

Not sure if it’s the most beautiful, but I once came across through work a lawyer called Alcides Hellmeister. Think he was from a Brazil. Imagine having that on your business card Grin.

FionaMacCool · 04/04/2021 00:53

I love "de" surnames:
de Courcy, de Paor, de Villiers, d'Arcy

twinkletwinklestarz · 04/04/2021 00:57

I used to work with a lady called 'Prtti Divine'

Divine was her married name but couldn't have fitted better with Pritti!

Oh and my husband went to school with a Russell Sprout Grin

TheOldRazzleDazzle · 04/04/2021 01:04

Greatorex - have coveted this name since coming across it in Arthur and George by Julian Barnes. Variations like Gratrix more than acceptable too.

Marsland

And since we’re talking about names off the telly, I think Serafinowicz is pretty wonderful.

OliverBabish · 04/04/2021 01:14

Flowers! So lovely.

Anystarinthesky · 04/04/2021 01:41

I have always liked Maywood, my friend's surname.
