Who do your DC look like?

shipsandgiggles · 03/04/2021 10:42

Just that really! I’ve never thought our DC resembled either of us, DD looks a bit like SIL as a child but that’s about it, then DM showed me photos of me as a child and both DC look like me. Do any of your DC not resemble anyone in your family? Or are they the image of you?

My two young DC are very much like me and nothing like their dad! Toddler photos of me show that DD is the image of me then. I’m interested to see if she looks like me as she gets older

CirqueDeMorgue · 03/04/2021 10:47

Like Dobby from Harry Potter.

LovelaceBiggWither · 03/04/2021 10:47

According to my MIL my older kid looks exactly like DH's stepfather. Don't know how she worked that one out.

DinosApple · 03/04/2021 10:52

DD1 looks like her dad's side MIL mostly. Also DH/BIL as a toddler etc.
DD1 is the image of my mum and me.

DartmoorDoughnut · 03/04/2021 10:55

Colouring wise eldest looks like me and youngest like DH, looks wise the same really but with a few differences related to the other parent

ifonly4 · 03/04/2021 10:55

My DD definitely looks more like my DH to me, especially across her eyes and her nose. However, she has similar colour and texture hair to me.

Either way, she looks like us. I've had people come up to me (when she was at school) saying you must be M's Mum, we were at a function with over 300 people and had someone come up to both of us and said it was obvious we were her parents as she looked just like both of us.

jessstan2 · 03/04/2021 10:57

Mine looked very much like me when he was a baby and little, then turned into the spitting image of his dad.

Todaytomorrowyesterday · 03/04/2021 10:59

When my girls where born they very much looked like their Dad!
My older daughter as she grown up looks more like me but oddily has lots of physical quirks as my sister - body hair body shape & personality wise they are similar! Though has my MIL chin!

My younger daughter is still a mix of us both, will be interesting to see which way she goes she has certain features of us both.

Genetics are a funny thing there must be strong genes in my family as across the family there is mini clones of my Nan - my mum, my sister, my cousin , my other sisters daughter. - freakily doubles of each other!! Their is a photo of my Nan at aged 10 if it wasn’t obvious that it was an old photo I would think it was my sister!

shipsandgiggles · 03/04/2021 11:06

This is so interesting! I always get told I look like my mum but we don’t have any of the same features, just the same colouring and mannerisms. I look a lot like my grandads sister, even though she looks nothing like my mum or grandad. Our DD has quite fair hair too and DH and I have really dark hair.

If you asked my MIL, DS1 apparently has nothing to do with me whatsoever. Everything about him can be traced back to her side of the family Hmm

MintLampShade · 03/04/2021 11:29

My DS looks like his Dad and paternal great grandad...

I read not so long ago that babies and young children tend to resemble their father and father's side of the family and it's evolutionary. An offspring can clearly be tied to The Mother who also has a natural bond with them, but for fathers to recognise the offsprings as their own, they had to know they belonged to them. So evolution made it that they resemble each other. If that makes much sense?? I can't remember the exact wording 😅

mnahmnah · 03/04/2021 11:31

Both my boys are a complete mix of me and DH but still manage to look very different to each other!

That’s so interesting! It makes sense as well doesn’t it!

DS (age 3) facially looks the most like me, he has my dark eyes, same centre of the face but his head shape and ears are the same as DH, he also has the same build as DH. He has a long waist and long legs, he’s going to be very tall like DH. So a nice amalgamation of us both

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 03/04/2021 12:13

DD1 looks exactly like me, my cousin and my Aunt did at 10yo.
Dd2 not sure, but apparently Both girls look Alike to everyone but me.

bubblebath62636 · 03/04/2021 12:29

Dd looks a lot like my mum.

idontlikealdi · 03/04/2021 12:32

Dts are doubles of me and it gets more apparent the older they get. When they were tiny they looked like their dad's mum.

shipsandgiggles · 03/04/2021 12:32

So interesting! I have 2 younger sisters from my dads 2nd marriage, I’m always told the youngest looks exactly like me but everyone also says she looks exactly like her mum.

I can never see someone else in my DC, or in anybody for that matter, unless it's very obvious! My two have the same hair as me, and they make the same faces as DH (especially when watching TV), but otherwise they don't look like anybody, imo.

They do look like each other, though. Or they did. Sometimes I look at DS(2) and it's like looking at DD(7) when she was the same age. It's weird!

Spied · 03/04/2021 12:39

Ds looks like my mum when she was a teenager.
Dd is the image of my maternal grandmother.
Neither look like their paternal side although mil always crows that they are so like xy&z.

LudoBear · 03/04/2021 12:43

No children of my own but my brother is the only person in my family over 6 foot...just like my mums sisters husband. They are very alike in looks too... yep, not blood related!

My cousins daughter looks just like I did as a child.

LadyCatStark · 03/04/2021 12:44

DS looks like my grandad.

Im sure nurture can affect looks too though, there’s a family I know where the boy looks the spitting image of his dad and the girl is just the younger version of her mum, yet both children are adopted and not biological siblings either. You’d never have a clue though if you didn’t know.

MrsBerthaRochester · 03/04/2021 12:54

I think all my children look far more like me than ex DH. My daughter especially, has the same shape and colour eyes and a facial mole like myself. Her hair is a lot darker than mine. Ds2 is literally just a mini version of ds1.
I grew up being told I look like my mum but I actually look far more like my dad. My sister takes after my dad's sisters(aunts) all tall, blonde and very slim.

Babyroobs · 03/04/2021 12:56

Two of my children are just like my side of the family, one is more like my mum. they are teens/ young adults now but at various points throughout their childhood they have more like one of us. We found an old photo of dh when he was a teenager and my ds1 was a similar age and the resemblance was very obvious.

Highfivemum · 03/04/2021 13:08

6 Dc....
DC 1 spit of DH
DC 2 spit of me.
DC 3 spit of my DB
DC 4 spit of me in coloring and DH in features
DC 5 spit of DH
DC 6 spit of DH but with my eyes.
All different but also all quite alike.
