Children’s mispronunciations which have stuck.

My son said ‘macamori’ instead of macaroni when he was younger. The whole family still refer to it as macamori, years later.

My friends son would ask for a ‘dinky dous’ when he wanted a drink of juice. We still say that now.

Any similar children’s mispronunciation’s which the whole family have adopted as their own?

Tomorrow we have a bug day. DD thought it was insect day not inset day and it stuck

BikeRunSki · 31/03/2021 14:27

Finglenails
Truck Road (trunk road, ds has always been fascinated with maps)

BikeRunSki · 31/03/2021 14:29

Not a mispronounciation, but a term made up be DS when he couldn’t remember the real word. “Cow sieve” for cattle grid.

CoodleMoodle · 31/03/2021 14:34

DD (now 7) used to say "leafers" instead of leaves. We still say "leafers" now. When she was about 3 she said to DM, "I know it is really leaves, but Mummy likes it when I say leafers!" Smile

DS is only 2.5 so he has lots of these. My current favourite is "hy-nena" instead of hyena.

elp30 · 31/03/2021 15:00

Tritcherlator for refrigerator
Hostipol for hospital
Gespetti for spaghetti

Those words have been in our family for 29 years 🤦🏻‍♀️

Crabwoman · 31/03/2021 15:13

Conserve-a-trois = conservative.

Not a toddler, but a friend not from the UK pronounced Clitheroe as Clit hero. Grin and it will always be known as this.

Crabwoman · 31/03/2021 15:15

Sorry, that should be conservatory not conservative Confused

LyraShaeLilly · 31/03/2021 15:21

Zappa for the TV remote control.

Heartofstrings · 31/03/2021 15:24

We have bugs and noodles for pins and needles. Ds1 age 4. I think this one will stick

SoMuchToBits · 31/03/2021 15:53

FizzyTarte · 31/03/2021 17:06

Wahwees for trousers

Hendalle · 31/03/2021 18:06

Drench-coat (trench coat)
Criss cross (moth)
Shrimp wrap (shrink wrap)

JWrecks · 31/03/2021 18:38

Oh I love threads like these!

We have loads, some that have stuck around for 25+ years, some used almost daily still, even by extended family:

  • chacklicks for chapstick, along with my licks are chacked
  • livernoom for living room
  • lasterday for yesterday
  • under-ella for umbrella
  • zreba/zurreba for zebra
  • lee my lone for leave me alone
  • forkhead for forehead
  • fucky tied chicken for KFC
  • Keffen for Kevin
  • poop in my basket for screwed myself over/really stepped in it
--- (that's a fun one because DD's friend once didn't get to have an Easter basket because she'd, well, done a poo in it! Her mum said "Tell her why you didn't bring your gift over" to which she replied, very quietly "I poop in my basket"!)

Yes, we're immature in this family! Grin

Rarotonga2 · 31/03/2021 18:42

constructions for instructions here :)

dcb2 · 31/03/2021 18:48

My 16 yo teenager still says "utivity" room. We got him from "nativity" room but it seems we'll never quite manage "utility".

Changechangychange · 31/03/2021 20:09

@Rarotonga2

It’s destruction for construction here. So “look, a destruction site! I played in the destruction corner at kindergarten today”.

Probably more accurate, to be honest.

samandpoppysmummy · 31/03/2021 20:11

Ossidges and sishsingers. Storebegries and oginges. All still used even though the DC are 15 and 14 😊

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 31/03/2021 20:13

Anything on the large side is maffice

popspops · 01/04/2021 03:27

@Rshard

We still say cupincum - cucumber and salad sauce - salad cream. Dd is almost 16.
I think I've just been cured of my lifelong love of salad cream ConfusedGrin
