Children’s mispronunciations which have stuck.

My son said ‘macamori’ instead of macaroni when he was younger. The whole family still refer to it as macamori, years later.

My friends son would ask for a ‘dinky dous’ when he wanted a drink of juice. We still say that now.

Any similar children’s mispronunciation’s which the whole family have adopted as their own?

One of mine used to call the country park the 'crunchy park' and we still call it that every time we go.

@sleepyhead

Ds2 always gets a snuffy nose, so now we all do too.

Not a mispronunciation, but ds1 used to say things that were too strongly flavoured/spicy were "too tasty for me" so that one's stuck too.

Too tasty for me 😍 that’s so cute @sleepyhead

The Calapittar Cake from her 5th birthday. Not her, but I still think it to myself.

And her older sister's Nins and Peedles in her feet. That one did stick.

@Crocidura

Jimanas instead of pyjamas.

Hippo Thomas instead of hippopotamus.

Plus DD thought bruise was a plural noun, so we all still say, ooh how did you get that broo?

My DD was exactly the same with the bruise thing Easter Blush mummy I've got a really big broo on my leg! So cute.

Affasee was elephant for a long time, for some reason. As the vacuum cleaner has a hose, that has remained as the affasee. The term became elephant when DD sang it in a song, but it was with a slightly longer first syllable, so she would correct us to 'urrrrliphant'!

In early primary she lived in hope each week of getting the Retificate. Couple of classes later, solemn retellings of the activities of the young 'Greta Humbug'.

When I was 2 years old I walked in to the living room of my grandparents' flat, saw the tea tray laid out and exclaimed "oooh cup of tup tea!"

35 years on and tea is still a cup of tup tea.

Everyone in our family calls cauliflower "collywolla" after a visiting friend pronounced it that way years ago.

The iPad is called the train-pad, because when my eldest son was a small toddler he liked to watch videos of trains on it and the name he gave it stuck!

We also sometimes eat food that is a bit too spiky.

We sometimes do things on accident or by purpose.

We have a mote controller to change channel and sometimes we just can't be asked to do something (that one is extra cute as it came from the mouth of adult ds1Grin)

Bloodybridget · 04/04/2021 00:37

DP and I still sometimes refer to blooblies, picked up from DGS as a toddler - he's 16 now (and wouldn't eat a blueberry if you presented it on a silver platter).
