Children’s mispronunciations which have stuck.

My son said ‘macamori’ instead of macaroni when he was younger. The whole family still refer to it as macamori, years later.

My friends son would ask for a ‘dinky dous’ when he wanted a drink of juice. We still say that now.

Any similar children’s mispronunciation’s which the whole family have adopted as their own?

Always felt conflicted over DH making a joke of them as admittedly they are very funny but I worry that repeating them in a positive light encourages negative speech development Hmm I do often force myself to stifle my grins when 'Lidl Mix' are on the television Grin

Slightly off topic, but I had an Auntie Muriel, always known as Auntie Mu, my DD heard us saying her name but but misinterpreted it. She always pronounced it as Aunt Emu. My dear aunt remained that for the rest of her life and even signed it in birthday cards!

Oh I love these! We have a retility room and a merote as opposed to a utility room and remote. When she was little my dd was delighted that she had swang herself on the swing and when she needs help opening the door because she's carrying too much she says she's full of hands. We haven't corrected her on that one as it's hilarious Grin

Notgotanyidea · 01/04/2021 08:00

When dinner is put on the table we all say “Shot” Dd couldn’t get her tongue around “It’s hot.”

PinkElephant7 · 01/04/2021 09:12

The dog's name has become dit-dy instead of Misty. DS can say her name properly now but we still use his baby name for her & don't think that will ever change back 😂

TrojaninTroy · 01/04/2021 09:18

I'm afraid we still call butter "bugger", as this what DS loudly trilled out when we were looking for it in Tesco's.

JWrecks · 01/04/2021 20:27

@dcb2

My 16 yo teenager still says "utivity" room. We got him from "nativity" room but it seems we'll never quite manage "utility".
That reminds me of another two actually!

We have "tiddly room" for utility room, and we have "chicken" for kitchen.

How could I forget these? I literally said to DH "it's in the chicken" TODAY!

Thecazelets · 01/04/2021 20:38

odindge ( orange)
wofe wofe (sofa)

LeeluTheNarwhal · 01/04/2021 21:03

Both DC are teens now but two things have stuck with us:

Mossissins for Morrisons

And not really a mispronunciation, more not knowing the word but DC2 once said that someone on TV showing cleavage (I think it was Victoria Coren Mitchell on Only Connect) had "too much line" so we call cleavage "line" now.
