@BareGrylls

It's in the Isle of Axholme, below sea level reclaimed land in 16th century. Massive flood defences. I'd feel less at risk there than much higher ground.
hmm, my husband is Dutch and worked for the Dutch water board for years modelling climate change and seal level.

He wouldn't buy it. In fatc when we were house hunting he wouldn't look at anything at risk of flooding, no matter how good your flood defences are now.

Yes, you can buy it and probably live in it for 20-30 years before it becomes a problem. But by then it will be a problem, and you then won't be abel to sell it.

Am I the only one thinking there must be something very wrong for it to be that price?!

Deathraystare · 28/03/2021 16:29

Yeah it is in Scunthorpe!

BareGrylls · 28/03/2021 17:01

Yeah it is in Scunthorpe!
No it isn't.
It's in quite a pretty village by the river Trent though not far from Scunthorpe.
Must admit I didn't realise it was quite so close to the river, although I've not heard of flooding there in last 30 years (so maybe it's due).

CorianderBee · 28/03/2021 17:20

17 bedrooms for £700k??? God that's cheap

tenlittlecygnets · 28/03/2021 17:25

Bloody hell, you get a lot for your money in Scunthorpe. 17 bedrooms, a pool, games room????? Wow.

freckles20 · 28/03/2021 18:38

Details say it was originally a hotel and after this a nursing home with part used as a family home.

No floor plan either.

I think that upon viewing things may not be as they seem!

tiredmum2468 · 28/03/2021 23:30

We know people who rented in Messingham bear Scunthorpe but not directly in Scunthorpe and they hated it - area looked ok but they wondered why it was so cheap and after about a mo th it became apparent

Friends husband got a job there but soon left and they moved

Scunthorpe itself is awful tho high crime and unemployment doesn't help unfortunately

tiredmum2468 · 28/03/2021 23:31

Near Scunthorpe
Not bear

DrCoconut · 01/04/2021 11:32

What's wrong with Messingham? It's not particularly cheap or "rough". My family connections there go back 100's of years. If anyone happens to know it their small holding was where the bungalows on Temperance Avenue are now.
