What song makes you cry?

I was driving to work yesterday and Caledonia came on my radio. I arrive at work absolutely bawling! That song gets me every single time, I’ll be ok for the first few bars then I can’t hold back the tears. I also used to find Tears in Heaven a guarantee of tears but haven’t listened to that in a while.
Wondering what other songs people find have the same effect on them.

Some beautiful songs mentioned here.
For me, it's For a Friend by Jimmy Somerville. Such sad words and about his friend who died of AIDS 💜

JarvisCockerSpanieI · 26/03/2021 21:04

Marina - numb

badlydrawnbear · 26/03/2021 21:09

Another vote for Into My Arms

Poke by Frightened Rabbit. And Floating in the Forth. Well, just about everything by Frightened Rabbit, but those 2 in particular.
Frank Turner's version of You Are My Sunshine
The Night Will Always Win by Elbow, which I discovered from one of these Which Songs Make You Cry MN threads.

Furrybootsyecomfy · 26/03/2021 21:19

Yes to FR and The Night Will Always Win, @badlydrawnbear
I saw Elbow singing that live with a friend who had lost a close relative to suicide- it was a very emotional moment.
The lines from “The Oil Slick”
“There is light but there’s a tunnel to crawl through, there is love, ‘cos misery loves you.
Still got hope, so I think we’ll be fine, in these disastrous times”
They already reminded me of a dark period in my own life, but are now so poignant after Scott Hutchison’s death.

Nat6999 · 26/03/2021 21:44

Amazed by Lonestar, it was mine & late dp's song.
Matchstalk men & matchstalk cats & dogs, my dad bought it me when my mum was in hospital, since I lost my dad it makes it more special.
Living years Mike & the mechanics, the line " I wasn't there that morning when my father passed away" breaks my heart, we were fighting our way through early morning traffic as my dad passed, I still feel awful that we weren't there holding his hand.

Myglueattack · 26/03/2021 21:46

Wish you were here- pink Floyd
Those were the days of our lives-queen
Lay me down-Sam Smith

Vallmo47 · 26/03/2021 21:47

Bridge over troubled water by Simon & Garfunkel. It was played at my mum’s funeral so bound to get to me but it’s the words as well..

MsTSwift · 26/03/2021 21:47

Tell me it’s not true from the musical Blood Brothers. We had a teen suicide in our community this week felt weepy when this came on

❤ So many of Scott's lyrics got to me before his death, even more now though.

Love a bit of Frank Turner too - Long Live the Queen is one of my favourites

"We live to dance another day
It's just now we have to dance for one more of us
So stop looking so damn depressed
And sing with all our hearts, long live the Queen"

Can't sing along without my voice cracking a bit.

TheDaydreamBelievers · 26/03/2021 21:50

Promise me - Beverley craven (I think?)
Kissing You - Desiree
Raise Me Up - westlife
I saw the lion king musical and burst into tears at the opening of Circle of Life
Slipping through my fingers and my love, my life from mamma mia make me sob. And my DM is alive and well. God knows how much I will cry if I have a DD or when DM sadly is no longer with us.

And I can barely even say 'Slipping Through My Fingers' by Abba without starting to cry.

AutoIncorrect · 26/03/2021 22:20

None. I think I’m dead inside.

supercee · 26/03/2021 22:22

@Marylou62

I was a carer for a very poorly little boy.. He had very complex needs and I fell in love with him.. He met my children and made them the adults they are.. We all loved him.. He died and I remember hearing 'You say it best when you say nothing at all '.. Because he didn't /couldn't speak.. but the words..'The truth in your eyes say you'll never leave me..' I'm crying now and it's been 17 years.. When my youngest son passed his driving test the first place he went was to his grave.. And the song came on the radio .. I still bawl my eyes out and sing at the top of my voice.. (If I'm alone in the car!)

That's lovely.
