My DS has just removed the loo seat because we want to get a new one and had to check the fittings first. Now the fittings have fallen inside the loo and I don’t know how we’ll attach a new one.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 23/03/2021 21:23

Bouny How exciting - if I remember correctly loo seats come with their fittings, at least they did last time I bought one?
Or you could fish the old ones out of the loo (magnet?)

EggyPegg · 23/03/2021 22:17

Yep, loo seats do come with fittings and they're a doddle to fit.

I have a sleepy EggyCat1 on my lap.

Nydj · 23/03/2021 22:36

@Deathraystare, that sounds pretty scary. I hope you get all the tests needed and feel much better soon.
@forgetthehousework, I have also been watching the volcano live feed and found it strangely calming.
@MissConductUS great news on the Tex-mex restaurant front - exciting times ahead! We are going to get a delivery from our favourite chines restaurant this weekend and I am trying not to think about it too much.

MissConductUS · 23/03/2021 23:40

How are you feeling, @Deathraystare? The ECG and echocardiogram both point to them suspecting a heart issue.

OP posts:
Silkies · 24/03/2021 00:22

Hope you are feeling less like death today Death Definitely an ECG I always end up finding those sticky things when I have a bath after the hospital having thought they've all gone but there's always a couple more Hmm

I love Chinese too Nydj Hope you enjoy yours. It's about the most exciting thing happening at the moment.

I've managed to book a night in Tresco on 3rd attempt. And I've booked the small plane back to Lands End as I thought it would be cool to go on helicopter and back on the small plane. I then read they can get cancelled in bad weather which could be interesting with the plane as its the last one that day, still there are a lot worse issues than being stuck on Scilly. DD found out about the helicopter and is very excited, she's at the teenage age where everything is boring so happy with that.

Rodrigo appears to have relocated downstairs.

DH says he is going to plant our mini Christmas tree this weekend, we still have it though I will miss it when it goes though I'm not convinced DH will really plant it.

Also booked first three nights of holiday so almost there on the holiday though I'm terrible with free cancellation and I swap things all the time Blush

HildaTablet · 24/03/2021 00:40

I'm glad you finally made the booking, Silkies, and excellent dare I say quite exciting? news about the helicopter and the plane (assuming no cancellations, of course).

Re the Christmas tree - many years ago, I put a 'grow your own Christmas tree from seed' kit in my father's Christmas stocking as a joke present...he planted it and said tree is in my parents' garden, now approximately 20 feet tall...

Silkies · 24/03/2021 00:53

Thanks Hilda Just booked the helicopter Grin

Actually we need to be careful with the tree in the garden as we live in a conservation area so we have to get permission to cut them once they get over 6 foot or so and have to get a tree specialist out. It's only 1.5 foot ish now but they are like children and grow before you know it.

Champagneforeveryone · 24/03/2021 02:23

That's the funny thing with teens isn't it silkie, the odd things that excite them?
DS is far too cool to be excited about anything with his parents, yet our canal boat holiday this summer has really piqued his interest shame there's no helicopters

Frownette · 24/03/2021 08:24

It's only 8.24am?? I've already been out, managed to have a stomach upset on antibiotics and had to scurry back home.

I feel like it's midday.

Frownette · 24/03/2021 08:24

I'm spending the rest of the day next to the bathroom and washing machine

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 24/03/2021 08:26

Thanks to the despicable behaviour of our white goods (weiße Ware in German) I am now looking for 1) a fridge, 2) an oven and 3) a washing machine always including delivery to the 5th floor, installing when necessary and removal of the old stuff.

DH handed me our household file with a big grin, becaus I now have all the time in the world...

sueelleker · 24/03/2021 08:28

@Silkies If the air travel is cancelled you could always come back on the Scillonian. We did a day trip from Penzance once, when we were camping in Cornwall.

Silkies · 24/03/2021 08:38

Frownette Sorry you are ill. I would call the doctor who prescribed antibiotics and let them know they are making you sick and get them to put you on a different antibiotic. The pencillin based ones make me ill so they give me non-pencillin based and I'm fine on those and the doctor said if they make you sick they are not in your system so don't work so you need a different one. Ours can just send to chemist electronically and hopefully you have someone that can collect.

Champagne That's lovely your DS is happy with your holiday. My DS loves boats, DS is relatively easy to please - we just need somewhere with animals, not many people and activities, also loves plants, only thing with him is the food has to be plain. DD just used to require a pool but past couple of years the teenage moaning and grumpiness has started and its so not cool to do anything with parents.

I was really breathless all last night, thankfully DH went to shop for some anti-histamines and taken 2 and hope they kick in soon. Didn't sleep at all with it. I messaged the doctors but done that before and they just said avoid what you are allergic to, I stay in to avoid the pollen but I can't avoid the thatched roof or rabbit though he's as far away as possible. Think its the pollen as it got bad a week ago. Not helped by DH being deaf and refusing to acknowledge an issue so everything needs repeating 3 times but I've done sign language.

Silkies · 24/03/2021 08:45

Thanks sueelleker Yes there are at least other methods though annoying if the helicopter isn't working and you take ferry you don't get a refund of the excess. With the helicopter we will just wait it out as kids want the helicopter more than anything, that's way out, with the flight back its last one of day and currently ferries are just showing one a day and its after that. I don't think there would be another method back that night but hopefully there will be wifi so we can check earlier. I would be quite happy to be trapped there though not sure where you would stay as everywhere is fully booked, well on the odd nights found one place on St Martins at £1100 a night Shock It maybe 2 nights we'ld be stuck though as no flights on Sundays.

Frownette · 24/03/2021 09:30

Prok that sounds like a challenge!

Thanks Silkie, I think I have got over the initial shock of pooing in public, luckily wearing trousers. I was like a slightly shaky heat seaking missile trying to get back home all of a sudden. I'll try my surgery in a sec.

Eggy what a beautiful happy looking cat

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 24/03/2021 10:12

Frownette - I remeber that dreadful feeling, antibiotics kill just about every lifeform we share our bodies with and most of them are needed.

I have just learned what UK children do in reception. I always wanted to know.

Eggy a cat picture, thank you.

Frownette · 24/03/2021 10:19

Prok that's kind of you.

My doctor is away until Friday but I may just stop the AB anyway. I'll check first but they're torturing my stomach

Anyway such happy news @Sunbird24 💖

Silkies · 24/03/2021 12:33

Frownette You can call 111, they may be able to do a changed prescription, done it for me in the past or another doctor at same surgery.

Squirrel26 · 24/03/2021 13:59

Just seen a man in high vis pushing two big metal cylinders on a trolley. There are now 5 portacabins in the car park. Perhaps they’re building themselves a hotel?

Glad to hear loo seats are easy to replace: I want to do the one in the upstairs bathroom. It’s all plasticky and I don’t like it.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 24/03/2021 14:59

@Squirrel26 Don't forget to measure the space between the fittings, to buy the right one for your size toilet bowl.

MissConductUS · 24/03/2021 15:34

Lovely cat picture Eggy.

Frownette, I'd stop the AB's if you're reacting that badly to them and see if your GI issues resolve.

Anyone looking for a new toilet seat, get a slow-close or soft close one. The seat just drifts down and settles without making a banging noise.

Penicillin antibiotics also make me poorly. Or they did once. It was enough to get me the red NO PENICILLIN bracelet for all hospital stays afterwards though. I've said that I'd be open to trying them again to see if it was a one off but no doctor wants to try it.
I'm sorry to hear that you're unwell @Frownette.

I've never measured my toilet. The seats are adjustable.

Burritos for dinner for the DC tonight. I'm having the roasted cauliflower with chickpeas from th Green Roasting Tin book

MissConductUS · 24/03/2021 17:56

There's more news on the Tex/Mex takeaway reopening. We've changed up our usual weekday dinner schedule so that we can get a takeaway from them tomorrow night, on their first day open. I'm just hoping they aren't swamped.

@EggyPegg - So they are, I went (well stomped) and had a look at ours.
