@DeedledeDee I don't think easter eggs are all they're cracked up to be, teacakes sound nicer...

Was the mouse caught in the end Champers?

MissConductUS · 10/04/2021 22:57

Welcome, @DeedledeDee, and thanks for sharing your teacake news. I confess I had to google "Tunnocks teacake". They look fabulous.

@freckles20, I had to nip out to the garage for something and decided to check on the cacti. One is already starting to come back and the other is still a bit droopy. The grass is about ready for it's first cutting. It's supposed to rain all day tomorrow.

My son and I made mac & cheese and the men are grilling tonight, a burger for me and teriyaki skirt steak for them. I had some gruyere cheese leftover from Easter so we threw that in with some cheddar and mozzarella.

I couldn't post this in Firefox and had to switch to Chrome. How odd.

The mallow in a Tunnocks teacake is soft as a cloud.
Best eaten in an empty room for undisturbed enjoyment.
I like to carefully bite off the thin chocolate shell first whilst trying to leave the mallow dome intact.
Next ,carefully lick the mallow down to the biscuit base.
Then, trim the rim of chocolate round the base with front teeth.
Finally attack said biscuit base with gusto.
Fabulous!

Sunbird24 · 10/04/2021 23:39

I don’t like Tunnocks Teacakes. Caramel wafers though...

Frownette · 10/04/2021 23:40

Well. There's obviously a fine art to eating a tunnocks teacake. I remember the packaging now!

After snacking on chocolate earlier I just roused myself to make a jambalaya using some rocket chillies I bought out of curiosity in tescos. It's lovely, slight punch.

Frownette · 11/04/2021 00:00

@DeedledeDee google tunnock the terrible...

DeedledeDee · 11/04/2021 00:24

Indeed .....And What a magnificent dress the wrapper makesGrin

MissConductUS · 11/04/2021 00:36

There is an American equivalent. I just couldn't think of the name until just now. Nabisco makes them and they're called Mallowmars.

The weather is cold and damp here. The LL came around with her son to put in our AC units, but because they are not really handymen they will have to come back tomorrow to get one of the units properly secured in its window. For tonight we will just cross our fingers that it won't fall out and kill someone.

mathanxiety · 11/04/2021 01:07

The best US mallow confection is the elusive Mallow Cup.

RhubarbFairy · 11/04/2021 01:39

Tunnocks teacakes are lovely. One of the few marshmallow products that are vegetarian.

Welcome to our newbies!

I got fed up of the tangle of wires down the side of our TV unit today so decided to unplug and remove the Xbox 360 and the Wii that were under the unit next to the Xbox One. Only the One gets used now but DH wouldn't get rid of the 360 when he bought it. Me physically removing it from its spot seems to have done the trick and it's currently selling on eBay in a 24 hour auction.

DH had a Stitch Fix box arrive today. He is keeping a t-shirt and a very nice jacket. He's now looking forward to going out with friends so that he has an occasion to wear it.

Frownette · 11/04/2021 03:45

@mathanxiety yikes, I hope it doesn't make you jump a mile in the middle of the night!

@RhubarbFairy I'm not really up on Xboxes or stitch fix boxes Blush

mathanxiety · 11/04/2021 05:44

If it happens, it will fall outward and down two floors into the bushes. I won't know anything about it unless I wake shivering or notice it gone in the morning.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 11/04/2021 05:58

Yesterday we had cold rain, today we have warm rain
This plant is in full bloom again.

The sun is shining here this morning and I am off to collect my new bike later courtesy of eBay. It was extremely cheap so even DH isn’t too annoyed about it (although I think he is twitching about his garage space). We are going to drive over there and put it on the bike rack, then I’m going to be dropped off at the head of a footpath to run home, thus combining pickup and Sunday run in one fell swoop. Assuming it’s rideable, DS and I will be taking it on our treasure hunt tomorrow.

freckles20 · 11/04/2021 09:02

@MissConductUS thank you for that pic

freckles20 · 11/04/2021 09:06

Oops pressed post in error.

Il start again.

@MissConductUS thank you for posting the cactus pictures. We could never grow them here so it seems very different. The thought of them lying down over winter and then slowly waking up is lovely.

I love Tunnocks tea cakes, but agree that caramel wafers are the best.

I'm off for a walk with DH and DDog before Dteen wakes up. It's cold and sunny outside.

Deathraystare · 11/04/2021 09:20

as called into work this weekend as one of the other receptionists reacted badly to the 2nd jab (also the fist one). I had it same day but luckily no ill effects. Seeig GP tomorrow at long last where I hope they will get to the bottom f my breathing trouble (had water on lung, still not bette). A&E gave me their notes so I can show them and I need an Echo. I hope I get it soon. I can manage to work but have to take taxis as I don't have much puff.

One of my Brother's has a birthday on Tuesday. I have already posted his present and I hope he likes it. (Elizabeth David's Bread cookery). Both my brothers are family men and do most of the cooking.

The skinny smelly guy has been into reception again (he pretends to be a security guy. He always asks if everything is ok. I amuse myself wondering how on earth he could deal with a crisis, like the Eastern European woman lady who ranted at me me (I asked if I could help her and she just stared at me before accusing me of being a train driver, calling her a bitch (nope) and telling her to fuck off!).

IWanderedLonely · 11/04/2021 11:44

I got up early for the first Sunday in months, and had a run before church. It snowed here yesterday , none stuck to the roads though. It is sunny and cold, everywhere looks beautiful.

Nydj · 11/04/2021 12:13

Beautiful plant @Prokupatuscrakedatus and how lovely that your cacti are waking up for spring @MissConductUS. Weather here is going to dip below freezing point tonight and I very much hope that will be the end of it as am looking forward to frost free weather now to put out baby plants help seedlings grow.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 11/04/2021 12:26

Nydj Thank you, the plant is practically indestructible, but I have no idea what it is.

crosshatching · 11/04/2021 12:33

I'm going to plant my herbs out today. I've been letting them harden off for the last two days outside the kitchen door. I originally wanted to plant up an entire herb garden but I can't figure out which bit of the garden has the best light for that so I'm popping them into larger pots.
DH is making bangers and mash for dinner so I have a day off cooking! Happy Sunday to everyone.

Champagneforeveryone · 11/04/2021 12:45

I'm on a 12 hour turn around between shifts which vexes me greatly. I've just woken up and start work in a little over two hours Hmm

I don't know why that cactus picture is so fascinating miss, I suppose I never actually knew they collapsed for the winter.

freckles20 · 11/04/2021 12:51

@crosshatching enjoy the planting. Something I would like to do more of.

@Champagneforeveryone I hope today's shift goes well.

This thread seems to be helping me feel calm. Thank you.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 11/04/2021 13:15

Temps are up to 20° C today and will go down to 10° tomorrow - I know it is April, but really. The tomato, chili and basil seeds have turned into tiny plants.
