I haven’t worn high-vis in a week, I’m not missing it!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 09/04/2021 17:29

Frownette
So I have. Sorry Champagne.

HelenaJustina · 10/04/2021 11:15

I’m standing on a rainy touch line while DC4 does football training. Learnt from DH taking 2hrs to thaw out last week and am wearing 4 layers including a duvet coat and my muck boots (better insulation than anything else!)

Frownette · 10/04/2021 11:20

Oh it was cold this morning! I went out for a takeaway coffee earlier then regretted it, frozen little hands clamped around the cup.

forgetthehousework · 10/04/2021 11:23

Back from a very unexciting trip to B&Q where we spent some time discussing all the things we could buy there, but ended up with only the wood glue DH had gone in for (I feel very virtuous about this).

Frownette · 10/04/2021 11:25

Admirable restraint

DS1 is back at rugby tomorrow I've got my layers, my woollen socks and my Dublins on standby.

I have changed the cat litter, emptied the bin, cleared the recycling and am now doing very little on the sofa.

Champagneforeveryone · 10/04/2021 12:30

helenajustina I remember those days with horror fondly. Ours was hockey so most often not muddy as on astroturf, but there was always a vicious wind.

I have always instilled the benefits of sticking with a hobby, but in truth put up little opposition when the interest in hockey started to wane Grin

RhubarbFairy · 10/04/2021 12:49

Well, this is far too exciting for this thread, but never mind.

DH and I planned to take the DC to a giant playground a few miles away today and two of our friends were going to meet us there.
DH came downstairs this morning and asked if I wanted to stay here as there's lots of parcels arriving (DS2s birthday is imminent). Happy to oblige, so he has just taken the DC and I'm in the house. All. By. Myself.

I plan to drink tea, watch the newest episode of Drag Race and then I might get some uni work done.

HelenaJustina · 10/04/2021 13:03

@Champagneforeveryone DH usually does the outdoor sports (horse riding in DC case) as that’s his ‘thing’. I happily support the swim meets, ballet, tap, Scouts, Cubs, jazz, body conditioning and gymnastics. But he is working all day today so it was on me. I was super smug as stayed warm and so no whinging resulted on my return home!
Need to drag DC out to walk the dog, this may take substantial bribery.

@RhubarbFairy I’m very jealous, I will have all 4DC at home today unless I take them all somewhere. And I do need to dust and hoover at some point too.

Spudlet · 10/04/2021 15:51

@RhubarbFairy That sounds wonderful!

We have been for a bracing walk with DS on his bike - I had to flat out sprint after him at one point so waiting to see how The Grumbly Foot deals with my having taken such a liberty. We then had a period of mega-whinge as I foolishly mentioned a nearby geocache then realised the app had un-downloaded itself from my phone as we haven’t been able to go for so long. DS was having bad dreams last night so was already a bit tired and emotional before that 😬 I have promised we’ll go and look for it on Monday, as his school has an inset day.

Still no joy on the car shopping front. Cramming everyone into a Nissan Micra is getting a bit old now.

MissConductUS · 10/04/2021 16:26

DD has started rowing at uni. She's on the water by 7:00 AM. I know this because the team is posting pictures online and I have seen several that show her clearly. This is much better than having to get up early to watch her.

Frownette, I hope you're sleeping better.

Spudet, well done to your DS for doing so well with his bike riding. Cars are in short supply everywhere, so I'm not surprised you're still shopping.

I noticed this morning that I had a carton of eggs in the fridge (yes, that's where we keep them) that were dated 4/4, so I replaced them at the supermarket this morning. I haven't done any baking in ages and we don't really use them for much else. Perhaps I'll make brownies this weekend.

DH has taken apart the big humidifier we run in the winter, cleaned all of the parts, and put them out in the sun on the deck to dry in preparation for it going back into storage until next winter. I didn't even have to ask him to do it. Smile

MissConductUS I remember you talking about equipment which you have to cope with the weather, I think before it was about a storm.

I got 4 hours sleep last night which was good, it's that I'm very frettish if I have a temperature. I'm really pleased to have a new female friend, we're planning all the stuff we're going to do. I only have male company at present, my female friends are at a distance and, of course, COVID.

That's good about dd's rowing, bet you feel proud!

How's @Sunbird24?

MissConductUS · 10/04/2021 17:37

Frownette, I do feel proud of her. Her grades are tops and she's had some really challenging courses. I'm also proud of her for getting up early and rowing.

Well done on finding a new female friend to pal around with, but I'm a bit concerned that you are still running a fever. Have you had your first covid jab yet?

The winter air is dry naturally but we have the humidifier because the blown air furnace really dries it out excessively, so it's nice when we don't need it any more.

OP posts:
Frownette · 10/04/2021 18:29

Ahh the blown air furnace, that's what it was! Yes first one was nearly 4 weeks ago.

Sunbird24 · 10/04/2021 20:35

I’m ok @Frownette, thank you for asking. Just in that mood where I want to burrito myself in my duvet and sleep for several weeks

freckles20 · 10/04/2021 21:29

I have weeded the path infront of our house. I'm pleased with how it looks.

P.S. I'm a new poster. I hope that's ok? Life has been a rollercoaster for a while and dull days feel very special as a result.

Frownette · 10/04/2021 22:03

Greetings freckles20! MissConductUS is the hostess, sure she'll be along in a sec. Must have been satisfying to get the weeding done.

Sunbird24 just rest up.

freckles20 · 10/04/2021 22:12

@Frownette thank you.

Yes it was satisfying. It's not a perfect job, but it will do just fine Smile.

MissConductUS · 10/04/2021 22:13

Welcome, @freckles20, and thanks for sharing your perfectly mundane gardening news. It was a lovely spring day here in New York for gardening too. I'm eagerly awaiting the annual resurrection of my cactus plants.

And of course you are welcome. We adore newcomers. Are you in the UK?

OP posts:
freckles20 · 10/04/2021 22:15

Thank you for the welcome @MissConductUS. Yes I am in the UK.

I love the sound of a cactus resurrection. Are they outdoor cacti?

MissConductUS · 10/04/2021 22:26

Yes, they are in my front garden and go all droopy and dead looking over the winter then perk up in the spring. They have lovely flowers but they only last for a week or two. I will post pictures when they flower.

I'm eating a Tunnocks teacake or two as I never got Easter egg

freckles20 · 10/04/2021 22:44

@MissConductUS that sounds magnificent.
