Champers never forget who is the boss.

I just said "do you like being dyke in the dark? I'm about to take out the bins for a spin".

To her credit because she likes watching TV without lights on and knows I'm still feverish she knew I meant sorry to open the door and let light in, I was just letting you know I was attempting to go for a bike ride.

I bought four Aldi chocolate bunnies a while back, and squirreled them all away so well that I could only find two of them by 2pm on Saturday when I went out to pick up groceries I had forgotten on my previous shopping trip. I looked high and low for bunnies but saw none, so I bought extra chocolate for the two people who would have to go without their bunnies. Then when I got home and was describing the East Berlin 1983-esque scene that was the candy aisles of the Dollar Store, DD4 told me where the lost ones were (stashed in the 3-season back porch) so we will all be really sick tomorrow thanks to the mounds of chocolate.

Flowers Sunbird - very sad to hear your news. Hope you're being looked after.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 04/04/2021 06:55

Gesegnete Ostern to those who celebrate and a good time to everyone else!
Easter Smile

Frownette · 04/04/2021 08:13

Happy Easter! I have someone round at 10am to look at a bike, argh!

Off to the shop soon to get some lucozade pink lemonade

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 04/04/2021 08:27

I am - unenthusiastically - glad that I have not put on weight. Stomping about with 'Schuh' seems to use up some calories. That and DH's healthy (but slightly frugal) cooking Smile

Frownette · 04/04/2021 08:30

Must wake up properly

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 04/04/2021 09:36

@frownette - Did you manage to wake up?

Frownette · 04/04/2021 10:03

No Prok but managed to sell the bike!

I like the sound of your H's cooking btw

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 04/04/2021 10:25

Glad you got rid of the bike without waste!

Well, DH grew up with the idea that the default state of a human being is 'slightly hungry' except after a meal, he worked as a waiter in a restaurant before portion sizes went mad and he does not hold with ready meals (there aren't any anyway), take aways or second helpings.

Spudlet · 04/04/2021 10:34

We took DS on our first family bike ride yesterday! Well, it was the first with him on his own bike instead of the trailer or bike seat, anyway. DH very bravely went into Shelob’s layer to retrieve the bike rack and we took all the bikes to the woods - ddog had already had a walk so he stayed at home and put his paws up. It was so much fun! Can’t wait to do it again 😊

Glad you sold the bike @Frownette - not sure if bikes are still as hard to come by as they were last year, I know the bike shop man said there were some parts he couldn’t get when he was servicing ours.

Happy Easter all! After a beautiful vigil Mass last night and attending 9am Mass this morning, we have all earned our chocolate for being so holy! Roast chicken is in the oven, with mushroom croustade as the veggie main, roast potatoes, carrots, broccoli, peas and new potatoes and leek gratin. Then a walk to burn some of it off before DC1’s long planned Easter hunt this afternoon. Hope everyone has a lovely and blessed day.

MissConductUS · 04/04/2021 13:33

Happy Easter, lovely people of the thread. It's just half past eight here, so I'm the only one up. I'll be doing Zoom church in a bit.

We do have to drop off two of the cars for service tomorrow. I'm not sure if we'll do that before or after Easter dinner. I think I'd like to do it before.

I forgot to tell you, when I came into the kitchen this morning I found it sparkling! DD has cleaned it. Grin

SplendidSuns1000 · 04/04/2021 13:59

Happy Easter or Happy Egg day all! Hope you're all having a lovely day.

Sorry I didn't reply earlier to those who asked but yes, this baby is my first and I'm thrilled! I managed to get in for a scan yesterday due to a cancellation and I'm nearly 20 weeks gone!

Helena your roast sounds incredible!

You've all inspired me to go for a bike ride with DH, we've got an easter themed charcuterie board planned for late lunch and I think it's safer to go before we devour 50,000 eggs...

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 04/04/2021 14:14

I had to leave the buying of Easter goddies to DH, so we haven't any as he left it too late. I would like to think that this is fine and healthy, but I don't.

MissConductUS · 04/04/2021 15:37

Prok, your attitude is understandable. No Easter goodies is not fine and healthy, it's a bit sad.

We got cupcakes from the posh bakery yesterday and ordered some chocolate covered nuts on line, so those will be our Easter goodies.

Zoom church was nice, but not the same as being there. It's a bit depressing that this is our second Easter during the pandemic.

That's lovely, @SplendidSuns1000, enjoy the time between now and the birth. Babies are a lot less work while in the womb. Smile Make sure you have plenty of support lined up for after the delivery. Having a newborn in the house is really exhausting.

Thank you miss I feel understood now!

I am waiting for tuesday when shops re-open after Easter and then I'll send DD to see to things after all it is still Easter time then.

Silkiescat · 04/04/2021 16:01

Happy Easter all Daffodil Easter Grin Daffodil

Having an Easter roast here.

SplendidSuns1000 · 04/04/2021 16:14

Thank you @MissConductUS, I'm a housewife anyway so thankfully have all the time in the world to enjoy and prepare. DH works from home flexibly so we'll be alright I reckon. (Famous last words I know)

Had a lovely bike ride until we rode past a field with about 20 people sat in a circle with their heads bowed. I'm less worried about them spreading Rona as I am about what they were doing! I can just about see them from a back window and they're still there...

HildaTablet · 04/04/2021 16:25

I'm enjoying reading about everyone's Easter activities Smile

After being told by all weather forecasters that we were going to have freezing temperatures, we woke to a fine and sunny Easter Day - I have shocked myself by making celery soup, getting some bread on the go, wiping down all the kitchen cabinets, potting on some tomato seedlings, doing some work in preparation for next week (I don't get Bank Hol Monday off, unfortunately), looking out some books and CDs to get rid out (the great pre-move decluttering has begun) and am now sitting down with a cup of tea eating one of the hot cross buns I made yesterday from a very successful recipe.

We're having roast beef with roast potatoes, cavolo nero and butternut squash for Easter dinner.

Exhausted now....!

For my second, I had a doula come in for a few hours a day Monday - Friday when my husband was at work. It gave me time to take a shower, have a nap, run to the shops, etc. When she wasn't tending to the baby she did laundry and some tidying. It saved my sanity and was worth ten times what it cost us. I wanted to kick myself for now having one help out with our first.

Also as a new mum, a doula can give you valuable advice about how to care for the baby, breastfeed if you want to, and just answer the many, many questions you will have.

Assuming your DH has no experience with newborns and you'll have no family coming in to help I really urge you to consider this. If you find you really don't need her after the first few weeks you can tell her that she's done.

My guess would be an outdoor Easter prayer service or the Druid equivalent. Smile

DH actually raised his nephew from birth to around 5 months after his sister was very unwell and we've both worked in childcare so have some experience with children from newborn age onwards. Definitely looking into a doula though. We live in the middle of nowhere so I'd feel much more secure knowing I'm not by myself.

I did think the people in a circle might be praying, they were completely silent and I watched them all stand up and leave the field without interacting with each other. I wish I knew more!

MissConductUS · 04/04/2021 17:07

You may not need the doula, but as the old saying goes, hope for the best and prepare for the worst. You will also be exhausted for at least a few days after giving birth. Even if she's just there for the first week I think you'll find it money well spent.

It's stories like this that make me think that the British reputation for eccentricity is well deserved. Grin
