Miss did a relationship bring her to America?

Sun the manager will just think their time was being wasted.

I just received a text saying "are you ok sweetheart?" and nearly texted back "who are you?" but then realised it's my housemate Blush. I forgot to save his number, rarely see him because we have separate entrances.

Silkiescat · 01/04/2021 16:01

The Oxford-Cambridge boat race has just been moved but no spectators allowed due to covid. I had an e-mail about it late last year and it said it was moving to not far from us and I thought oh good we can see it then it said no visitors Sad

Frownette, yes, she's married to an American and has been here for about 10 years. She's from Kent. Do people from Kent have a particular regional accent? Her accent is clearly British, but it's not quite what I'm used to hearing on British TV shows.

I've set both Siri and Alexa to have British accents. Grin

You're surrounded by us! Kent accent is usually pretty standard Southern England

Well, what an exciting day I had (No not really, come back! Not exciting at all!).

A few days ago I got a new 60+ Oyster Card and was using it quite happily until I got an email to say I hadn't given them details of what borough I live in. That I need to reapply and pay again!

Why I couldn't just upload details of my proof of my address as it is a new card anyway, I dunno.
I did see (when reapplying) that it says something about sending in details of where you live yearly and paying £10/20 or something but I never noticed that before. Apparently they are supposed to send out a reminder email which tells you how to do so but they never did.

Some people are great at filling in forms but not me. Luckily one of the porters (a youngster) knows how to upload photos and scans of passports etc. I have done it in the past but need someone to check I am doing it right!

So basically I got a card for about 5 days (before they will stop it) and have had to pay again for another card. I cannot really understand why they didn't say just click on this link to upload your address.

Yes I am greatful for the card, I reckoned it would stop by the time I was able to use it. But found it all a bit frustrating.

Ok owing to my own ditziness I lost the bus pass, my laundrycard and my bank card! I have had to go online to various places to let them know I have a new card but it is just the frustration of the bus pass that got me!

I was not even meant to be at work today but came in to use the phone and computer!

EggyPegg · 01/04/2021 17:37

What British TV shows are you watching?

Agreed, Kent is standard South East. I hear a lot of broad London accents when I visit my brother there, but I think that's to do with people moving there as opposed to born and bred there.

The DCs don't have broad Wiltshire accents as mine is very neutral but they have started using local dialect for things. DS2 refers to woodlice as 'chuckypigs' without exception now. I didn't learn that expression until I was 29 and had lived in the South West for 10 years.

Frownette · 01/04/2021 17:39

Oh no! At least you have a new bank card. I'm clumsy as well and do things like lose my keys in the house so am trapped til I find them.

Sunbird24 · 01/04/2021 17:40

@EggyPegg Woodlice were cheesylogs when I was growing up, but I don’t know if that was a Somerset thing or inherited from parents/grandparents

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 01/04/2021 17:44

death You are not alone - My last failed effort was to fill in the online form for family health insurance (German system - adult DC in education are covered), a nice lady phoned me up and told me to simply send her an e-amil instead.

@EggyPegg May I adopt 'chuckypig' - what a lovely word! (Kullerkäfer)

MissConductUS · 01/04/2021 18:06

What British TV shows are you watching?

Foyle's War is my all-time favorite, but also Sherlock, Marcella, Doctor Foster, Broadchurch, and most recently the Netflix original The Irregulars, a Sherlock Holmes derivative that a great job with the period London setting and adds a bit of the paranormal. The Irregulars is really good if you have Netflix. I think all of the actors are British.

Michael Kitchen and Honeysuckle Weeks were both brilliant in FW.

We had takeaway Tex/Mex again last night and I had a leftover steak taco for lunch today. Smile

My smashing Thursday continued apace with a trip to the dump household waste recycling centre I was super smug as remembered that the closest one is closed on Thursdays and so went direct to the bigger but slightly further away one. Then a full food shop, then collected DC1 from their half day finish. Home by 2pm, two loads of laundry done too.
All not at all exciting but very satisfying day. Showered and ready for Mass at 8pm. Will leave at 7.15pm as am both Stewarding (showing people to their seats, making sure they sanitise, follow the one way to Communion) and Reading (1st reading, DC2 is doing the 2nd)

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 01/04/2021 19:07

DD has left the house for the first time in more than 8 month - she had to get a parcel DHL decided to deliver directly to the depot instead of ringing at ours: ID, keys, money, bag, ffp2 and do I need a "day test" or not - she was quite stressed.

EggyPegg · 01/04/2021 19:14
@EggyPegg Woodlice were cheesylogs when I was growing up, but I don’t know if that was a Somerset thing or inherited from parents/grandparents
I had a similar conversation with a friend this morning who grew up in Chilcompton. She called them cheesylogs too. She asked what I called them where I come from. 'Woodlice!' Was my reply.

@Prokupatuscrakedatus, adopt away.

Frownette · 01/04/2021 19:24

prok is she shielding? I didn't what an ffp2 is. It can be quite distressing doing normal things again after so long.

Everyone seems to have had such a productive day aside from me in my fever slump. After my housemate texted me earlier I texted back normally. Then sent him a text meant for a relative. Then didn't recognise boyfriend name, not quite as mad as it sounds, we always use WhatsApp and I thought he had called on normal phone.

Sunbird24 · 01/04/2021 19:38

I haven’t had a productive day @Frownette, never even got dressed so hoping I can squeeze in a shower before Great British Menu starts cos I really need it. Blush

Frownette · 01/04/2021 19:41

You're keeping me company in being unproductive :)

Silkiescat · 01/04/2021 19:46

Well I've been asleep most of the day but in my dreams I won £3275 on premium bonds so that was quite a productive dream. Grin

I have eaten a salad with blue cheese, rocket and walnut and half a pack of mint matchmakers. I have done lots of thinking about whether to brave the lido at 9C tomorrow and veering towards a no. I've not been vaccinated and asthma is quite bad at the moment. Says you turn up changed but there's no parking and it advises a wetsuit Hmm It also says it needs to be a wet wetsuit. I'm not sure if they are expecting people to wander around town in a wet wetsuit at 9C or they mean you go under their outside showers and wander round town to get there in a wetsuit.

BlueSkyBlinking · 01/04/2021 19:49

I had my Pfizer vaccine yesterday and I’ve spent the day pre-emptively laying on the sofa watching movies and eating Easter eggs, just in case I get symptoms. So far, my arm is slightly tender. But I’m staying put, because you never know!

SplendidSuns1000 · 01/04/2021 19:51

I went out to get lunch today- only a subway sandwich and ridiculously sweet starbucks frappuccino thing but I saw people! And got to wear my new jeans!

Tomorrow I'm waking up early to watch the sunrise with DH and then we're going to pick up my new car!

Champagneforeveryone · 01/04/2021 19:58

Well, we've (DH and DS actually) had a family dingdong Hmm

DS is finding himself a little too big for his boots with all his newly rediscovered independence and freedom. DH is short of temper and not tolerant of teenagers ways at the best of times, and they frequently rub each other up the wrong way a little.

They even managed it at the dinner table, in the front window, with the curtains open Hmm

This is such a rare occurrence that they have both retreated to different parts of the house to lick their wounds. Both were wrong, though DS more so on this occasion. I have maintained a mask of calm serenity and am not taking sides, though have been very clear I do not approve of DS's attitude.

Frownette · 01/04/2021 20:05

Oh dear - family arguments happen. I had a hairbrush thrown at me the other day.

Silkies surprised you haven't had vaccine, are you allowed to with asthma?

@BlueSkyBlinking you should be fine, I don't know anyone who's had a bad reaction

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 01/04/2021 20:08

@Frownette
No, but all her uni courses are online including reading materials, exams etc. Everything she would enjoy to do is cancelled (choir etc.). Her friends live not near. And we live in inner city Berlin. She exercises at home. A walk on her own round the bare trees at the canal watching swans and rats 'bringt's nicht' = has no attraction.

Squirrel26 · 01/04/2021 20:31

A wet wetsuit?? Will it not be wet soon enough once you’ve dunked it in the pool?

Had second vaccine today. I still cannot hear Bill Gates’ voice in my head.

@MissConductUS Honeysuckle Weeks is very very posh. Grin

MissConductUS · 01/04/2021 20:33

Welcome, @BlueSkyBlinking, and thanks for sharing your immunization news. It sounds like you have a good strategy. I had Pfizer and it just made me a bit achy and fatigued.

Welcome, @SplendidSuns1000, and thanks for sharing your excursion and automotive news. We got a new car last year during lockdown and they made us do the paperwork outside under a tent and wouldn't get in the car with us to show us how everything worked. It was still fun. What kind of car are you getting?

OP posts:
Silkiescat · 01/04/2021 20:49

That was what I thought Squirrel and its a pool full of cholorine and it'll get wet when you enter but no its says you will be allowed to enter the pool with a wet wetsuit. Maybe they think people have just stayed in wetsuits for 3 days before and not washed Confused though not sure how just adding water to make it wet would be better than cholorinated water. Or maybe they think people haven't washed them since last summer. No idea.
