I've been told at every vaccine ever that the pin prick can get infected like any other wound. So I do not think this normal, but what do I know being miles away from getting this particular pin prick.

DH just forgot his simmering chick peas, the smell is not nice.

MissConductUS · 31/03/2021 11:58

@Therainisback

Also - anyone who's had their Covid jab. Is it normal for my arm to be red & hot to the touch after 10 days?
As Prok has suggested, it's infected. Whoever gave you the jab needs retraining in sterile injection technique.

Apply an antibiotic ointment and cover with a bandaid (sticking plaster). Change it twice a day or if it gets wet. If you don't see a noticible improvement in two days see a doctor. You may need oral antibiotics.

DH slept okay last night and feels well enough today to go into work, so the side effects of his first jab were worse.

When we picked up his car at the garage yesterday in may car he noticed that my front windshield was covered with smears from dead insects. I must have driven through a cloud of gnats. Even though he was feeling poorly he got out the glass cleaner and a clean rag and cleaned it for me. He's a good egg. Grin

Another beautiful and sunny day here. NDN has sb over, so is properly dressed this time. My hibiskus plant from last summer is about to flower again Smile

A friend has just been to the Tegel center for is vac. (we have a lot of ex airports to use) by shuttle bus and he wondered why it was so empty. Turns out he overlooked the 'click for free taxi transport' button unlike the other 599 people being passed through Grin

EggyPegg · 31/03/2021 13:08

I have just arrived home from work and DH is not here. Given that he's WFH for over a year now, it throws me to come home to an empty house.

The playroom light and both the playroom and living room Alexa's are still playing so I assume he hasn't gone far

HildaTablet · 31/03/2021 13:51

@Therainisback A hot, red and swollen arm after 10 days doesn’t sound good, and I think you should give your GP a call.

And @Frownette, MissConduct is right - doxycycline is a good alternative to penicillin. My late mum would come out in huge itchy weals with amoxicillin and doxycycline was the sensible alternative - it worked perfectly well for her.

Squirrel26 · 31/03/2021 13:59

I'm eating Giant Whotsits. They aren't kidding; they are longer than my middle finger. Shock

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 31/03/2021 16:52

The depot that delivers goods to the supermarket we usually go to has been closed because of an outbreak, so no food delivered until logistics kick in. DH has to walk another 600 m to the next shop. Grin He suffered.

Spudlet · 31/03/2021 16:57

The village had a bake sale today to raise money for the new playground. I had volunteered to bake and completely forgot until 9am today... fortunately cookies are very quick to make 😱

The nice parish council lady just brought my tin back and then almost had heart failure -
DS was sitting in the open boot of the car playing and she had walked straight past without realising until he said hello behind her... GrinGrin

Almost £500 raised anyway, which is good, although there’s still a long way to go!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 31/03/2021 17:20

@spudlet - But it is a start!

How much does the community need to raise? And can you rope in voluntary labour from the community?

Spudlet · 31/03/2021 17:56

I think it’s about £15,000 all in - there have been quite a few other donations from local businesses and the like though, and other fundraising events too, so we’re not only reliant on cake to get us through. That would be an awful lot of cake, we’d all need to use the playground to get the extra pounds off by the time we’d eaten it all Grin

Hopefully at some point it will be possible to do some other events as I know there are lots of ideas and plenty of goodwill - we’re just all a bit limited on what we can do at the moment.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 31/03/2021 18:07

Spud I remember when our Kindergarten was restructured, parents were roped in to donate 'unskillend' labour. DH and I wheeled rubble out, and earth and sand in. (After the ground had been checked for old explosives). Sand IS heavy!! But the children loved the result.

MissConductUS · 31/03/2021 18:09

Spudet Have they setup a gofundme page or similar to make it easy for people to donate?

We're going to replace our old home security system with one from Ring. We need to have some outside cameras installed as we had a small act of vandalism Sunday night.

DS's car is parked in the lower section of our driveway, which is hard to see from the house. Someone walked up the driveway and took a $30 piece of trim off it, the plastic part that goes around one of the foglamps on the front bumper. He only took the one. It seems like an odd thing to steal. We made a report with the police, who suggested that possibly an animal pulled it off the car. Grin With no camera covering the area it will remain a mystery.

DH found a highly rated electrician that installs the Ring systems, so he's coming around on Monday to have a look. I'm going to really like being able to watch the video on my phone.

One of my friends has a Ring doorbell. She likes to send me screenshots of me dropping things off on her doorstep. They're rarely flattering.

In exciting for me, but full for you news, I managed to get the ski helmet I've been coveting for quite some time at a bargain price last night. Checked it again this morning and the price had gone back up £45. It'll be here tomorrow.

Spudlet · 31/03/2021 19:48

@MissConductUS They reckoned they were going to, but whether it’s been set up or not is another matter. I’ve already volunteered for the PTA though and when the schools go back after Easter I’ll be volunteering for a charity that advocates for families with children with additional needs, so I’m not looking to take any more on at this point, tbh.

Therainisback · 31/03/2021 19:52

Thanks all for the arm advice. I called into the Christ's after work - the red area isn't where the injection was - it's a bit lower down. He said he's heard a few reports of this as a reaction rather than an infection from a non-sterile injection. He said if it gets any worse or spreads to call the Dr, otherwise just keep an eye on it.
I took my mum (90) for a little walk to the park this afternoon. She had an ice cream & watched the grandchildren paddle in the river. A lovely afternoon.

Sunbird24 · 31/03/2021 19:58

I thought my Phillips Lumea was dead, but it turned out you just can’t use it while it’s still plugged in. Time to do something about the winter foliage.

Nydj · 31/03/2021 20:00

@Therainisback, I hope your arm feels better soon. I had a red patch about 2inches by 1 inch for two weeks after the jab. It was itchy at nighttime so I put antihistamine cream on it but was not really much of a bother otherwise. It never occurred to me that it could be infected due to poor hygiene as I assume it would feel like throbbing pain if it was infected but I know very little about all things medicine related.

Gingernaut · 31/03/2021 20:13

I had my first Covid-19 jab back in February - it was painful like a bee sting for days.

I have a new toy - Tile trackers. I bought 4 and attached them to my wallet, keys, handbag and travel pass holder.

They play little tunes and everything.

I have ADHD and keep leaving stuff behind when I'm stressed. They seem to be great so far.....

Sunbird24 · 31/03/2021 20:20

@Gingernaut I got my mum 2 of those for Christmas! One lives in her glasses case and the other on her keys

Gingernaut · 31/03/2021 20:27

So far, I luffs them, but I'm sure there'll be issues when I use them in the 'real world'.

MissConductUS · 31/03/2021 20:29

Welcome, @Gingernaut, and thanks for sharing your news. My DH got me Tile trackers when I was always misplacing my car keys. I've since learned to always put them in the same place when I get home. It is a neat bit of kit. I got mine several years ago when they were new, and they didn't play tunes. Perhaps I need to upgrade. Smile

Have you had your second covid jab yet?

OP posts:
Prokupatuscrakedatus · 31/03/2021 20:32

gingernaut I made a note of them, too.

Gingernaut · 31/03/2021 20:33

I get my second jab in April.

Frownette · 31/03/2021 21:50

I will take on board your advice and speak to doctor. This isn't very good timing as I have to be back again tomorrow. If they think I'm a bit dozy I can wave a penicillin packet at them and say I'm usually nuclear scientist grade but a bit under the weather.

Someone abandoned a dog on our street??!! They tied it to a lamppost and left it? I don't understand who does that, poor little thing. A neighbour found it first and took it in.

Frownette · 31/03/2021 22:08

I think the dog owner must have been ill? It was in good health just left tied to a lamppost.

@Gingernaut ah that's good. I get my second in May and can't wait to get it out of the way.

Sun ok?
