Breastfeeding isn't easy for all mothers...?

What do you think? I honestly find it the most hardest thing in the world...finding the right tops, cloths, you're feeding one side the other side decides to leak a waterfall, baby doesn't want to latch properly, mild tongue tie, sometimes it's easy, sometimes it's hard and annoying, breast milk has leaked on baby's clothes, baby needs changing. Breastfeeding in front of other people, family etc...

My baby, just in the last few days, has started taking the nipple in his mouth, then twisting his head as far as possible in the other direction. It actually doesn't hurt as much as it sounds like it would, but psychologically it's torturing me....

You may end up with wonky nipples, too. Niplash!

P. S. @Wondermule, some of your posts really get on my nerves, but you make me laugh sometimes too. I'm still laughing at your post on another thread about 'hiding in the bushes with a long lens camera and a bottle of aptamil' Grin

Thanks! I am a bit of a provocateur I suppose, but I never say anything I don’t believe to be genuinely true. I do find people on MN to be a bit overly sensitive/serious and it sort of tempts me to wind them up - my brain is going ‘Don’t post it! Don’t post it!’ but my finger just hits ‘Post’ 😬

Sounds like one of Harvey Weinstein’s defences 😬

@Wondermule... If I ever find myself on the receiving end of negative comments when BFing my baby/toddler when out in the (Shockoh horror of horrors!) FRESH AIR, I might actually make use of that comment.... "oh no, you're not one of those people who hide in the bushes with a long lens camera and a bottle of aptamil, are you?" Genius!

Sorry, I'll stop derailing the thread now.

My quote function is not working, but Grin to the Harvey Weinstein thing.

rainbowduck · 20/03/2021 21:35

Thank goodness for formula, it had kept babies alive! But it is a second choice.

Breastfed is better. It just is.
Babies naturally lose a bit of weight after they are born.
BF hurts for a few weeks and then it changes.

I never understood the UK culture not to BF tbh, beyond thinking new mums do not get enough support.

NigellaSeed · 20/03/2021 21:39

It's very very hard and life consuming for about 3 months.. after that it's the easiest thing in the world

Haha! Act mental and shout at them, say you’ve seen their long lens camera and you’re calling the police Grin then watch them shit themselves!

It was rough as hell for the first three months. Mastitis, on my knees and practically mad with exhaustion. After that it was a breeze.

BiBabbles · 20/03/2021 22:57

It isn't easy for all mothers and I think pretty much all mothers' struggle with it at times as others said. I think the idea that it's natural should mean it comes easily hurts some mothers, much as childbirth, menstruation, and menopause being natural means issues gets dismissed too often.

Oddly I found it hardest with my youngest, he's the one I had the most issues with, the only one I had mastitis with - in hindsight I think it was in part because of the needs of my older children made all the bumps and problems we had along that way feel bigger with all the loads of everything else going on. It wasn;t any of their fault, but we're all humans with limits and infants definitely can push at those limits at times no matter what we do.

theworldhasgoneinsane · 20/03/2021 23:19

It's the hardest thing and the easiest thing to do all at the same time. It's uncomfortable at times, yet comforting. The hormones released when breastfeeding give me the best feeling.

BUT, we've had latch issues, milk blisters on my nipple which have needed scratching off 😩, blocked ducts, and I'm on a restricted diet due to cmpa. DD is now 5 months and thriving, so yeah I'm proud. I don't run on about it to my non bf friends but if people ask I will say I'm proud and that I love it.

Every mum should be proud though, regardless of how they are feeding their baby.
