What have you recently realised that’s made you feel like a bit of an idiot?

Mine is that I didn’t know you shouldn’t flush tampons down the toilet...... I swear I remember my mother telling me I could when I first started using them, and that’s what I’ve done for 14 years! It was only through a conversation with a friend (about whether you empty your bathroom bin before the cleaner comes.....) and subsequent google that I’ve found out you shouldn’t.....

So, what have you have you learnt recently that you definitely should have known before?

Round things? Possibly resembling the Atlas stones that they use in World's Strongest Man?

Would you like some company in the dunce's corner?

Oh, your picture hadn't loaded when I commented.

I absolutely cannot stand the saying "I was today years old".

TokyoSushi · 16/03/2021 15:55

Not today, but fairly recently... We have a cat, he is completely self-cleaning, and is absolutely pristine and sparkling white at all times with never a hair out of place. For some reason, I was sure that dogs were the same, until we got our puppy, oh my was I disappointed!!

cwtchesandprosecco · 16/03/2021 15:55

@PLAYJAJADINGDONG I love that!

You should put a metal spoon in the microwave if you're heating liquids.
You definitely shouldn't!

You SHOULD?!
Zancah · 16/03/2021 15:57

Only in certain microwaves!! Combination ovens are fine. Traditional microwaves - BOOM!

No, you really shouldn't! It's only certain models - not in any old microwave!
Zancah · 16/03/2021 15:59

Please don't put metal in any microwave if you're not sure. Honestly, it's not just a snap crackle and pop type scenario- I've seen them actually explode and maim someone.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 16/03/2021 16:00

You should also make sure your mug doesn't have a gold rim round it. It's a very loud bang.

I've learned that you must be a MN newbie, it's a law on here that this fact must be posted within the first 10 posts of every thread about stuff that people don't know Grin

The poster is referring to a thead I read the other day about how her microwave says you should put a spoon in liquids
EvilOnion · 16/03/2021 16:05

*"You should put a metal spoon in the microwave if you're heating liquids.

You definitely shouldn't!"*

There was a whole thread about it the other day, lots of Google results to show/explain and links to manuals etc. It made for some interesting reading... I still wouldn't do it though 🤣

VerityWibbleWobble · 16/03/2021 16:08

I was today years old last week when I found out that king/super king size duvets aren't square and that's why it doesn't always fit properly in the cover. And yes I actually went and measured Blush

I read the thread and posted on it. It's a specific type of combination oven that you can put metal in - not a regular microwave.

Standard microwaves can't take metal, especially older types. Please don't perpetuate potentially dangerous information.

Flying I've been on MN for 13 years!! Have never seen it come up!

Tempusfudgeit · 16/03/2021 16:09

That the Tombliboos' names Un, Ooh and Ee are a play on one, two, three. I've only been watching ITNG for 15 years!

BluTangClan · 16/03/2021 16:10

The Q's in "P's and Q's" are from "Thank you's". Just never really thought about it before until I heard someone say it yesterday.

No way!

It comes up all the time Grin

EvilOnion · 16/03/2021 16:15

@Zancah, my mistake. However, I take no responsibility for people taking a random persons information as gospel without checking up on it 🤣

Timestablesaretables · 16/03/2021 16:16

So why should you put a teaspoon in liquids in combi microwaves? I don't when I have to reheat my tea and it comes out drinkable.
