Meg and Harry supporting race and mental health charities in UK

Brilliant to hear this. They have approached three charities in UK including Mind and a charity to increase diversity in the media and press.

Great, doing good based on their experiences.

Oh wow thanks yes. Perhaps you could let the others know it doesn’t make me a racist then as I don’t agree with them. It’s been very tiresome and frankly silly as they are such sensitive things.

Yes I’ve been called a Russian bot for years but managed to never ask for a thread to be removed. It’s the hurling abuse around and asking for threads to be pulled. Of course they disagree that’s the point.

Thanks for helping to point out to them that others have differing opinions, might actually be of help to them. I was aware hence took all the abuse of being called racist by the ‘kind’ and ‘nice’ posters.

Figgygal · 14/03/2021 18:37

What does it actually mean though?
What are they actually contributing? Money? Where’s it coming from?
They have nothing to offer personally it seems

Roussette · 14/03/2021 18:38

I've never called you a racist Hmm or a Russian bot or any of these things.
So don't start saying I have. If someone else has, take that up with them. Not me.

Not sure who 'the others' are. We are all individual with our own opinions. As I'm sure you are too.

ListeningQuietly · 14/03/2021 18:55

@Sprining

Why should they do it quietly? Most foundations publicly announce the organisations they are supporting.

It benefits the charity and increases transparency on where the foundation money is being spent.

It is a good thing, no?

Show me the accounts of a foundation in the USA that is properly transparent

Here is the benchmark and I am NOT a fan of Charles
www.princes-trust.org.uk/about-the-trust/research-policies-reports/annual-report
(page 23 of the current year onwards)

Find me the equivalent for any US "foundation"

FrippEnos · 14/03/2021 19:13

I would like to know exactly what they are "offering" before singing their praises.

Sprining · 14/03/2021 19:21

I have heard positive things about the Princes Trust.

I don’t know much about US foundations. If they are not required to be transparent, at least it is a good thing that H &M’s foundation are trying to be?

I'm more than happy to understand what's behind the support. Truly.

But yet to see them do anything yet. But agree, they've had alot on their plate recently and now they've said their piece we can all crack on and watch them deliver.

But do they get a round of applause for offering support to a group of charities? No.

Evidence for that please
MiaowMiaow99 · 14/03/2021 19:47

@dogsonlead

Nothing carefully seeded about it.

Blatantly obvious.

dogsonlead · 14/03/2021 19:48

@MiaowMiaow99 it really sickens me how stupid they think people are.

dogsonlead · 14/03/2021 19:50

"I have heard positive things about princes trust?" Eh?!!!!

Next time you might want to employ someone who actually knows what the fuck they're talking about.

MiaowMiaow99 · 14/03/2021 19:51

@dogsonlead

Agree! And how clumsily it's been done!

Amateur hour

MiaowMiaow99 · 14/03/2021 19:52

"I have heard positive things about princes trust?"

I know. Grin

BasiliskStare · 14/03/2021 19:57

DF worked for a mental health charity in a senior role - for nothing. So without talking about anyone in my family can I throw that out there

Ach I thought the interview was poor on both sides.

Sprining · 14/03/2021 20:14

Eh? I have met people (well one person) who benefited from the Princes trust. And it’s great to hear the stories.

I’d love to hear more about the charities that H&M are supporting and people’s personal experiences with these charities.

Sorry Roussette didn't mean you - clumsy post by me that doesn’t make sense but not directed at you - mothers a day wine

Diverseopinions · 14/03/2021 20:47

How about YoungMinds for a charity to support?

Young people have been affected by lockdown, and CAMHS are very over-subscribed.

ListeningQuietly · 14/03/2021 20:58

So would we Hmm

Sprining · 14/03/2021 21:10

So true, young people need mental health support. I wish they would teach more about recognising and managing emotions in a healthy way at school

I've just googled BBC diversity targets, and they have a big budget for it - diversity covering many criteria, including disability and ethnic background.
We can see that prime time shows, such as Strictly represent inclusion on multi-levels. ITV seem to be setting targets and shaking up the old guard, including new faces and making sure many voices, many ethnicities are represented on prime time TV.

Guest presenters is a good way of including as diverse a range of voices as possible. I think children's TV is diverse too.

Maybe funding to assess and monitor which kind of initiatives have most impact on audience would be useful.

Sprining · 14/03/2021 21:34

That’s true @Diverseopinions

I don’t have a tv and rarely watch anything on the media. I wonder if the future is Netflix, TikTok YouTube etc. And these are relatively open (well not the big stuff like Netflix, but many social media channels) for anyone to have a voice?

I think Mind have a lot of locally-based charities which, say, take over a house and use it as a meeting place where people who would like support hang out. There is help from counsellors too.
My friend used to go. We are deeply fortunate in South East London that a lot of the cafes are friendly, welcoming and inclusive places too. Some of my friends with mental health needs visit, read the newspapers, eat and drink and chat to the lovely proprietors and their families - and other customers too. I often think of our cafes ( numerous) as a bit of a - not exactly emergency service - but community service. My son who has mental health issues and autism has always been welcomed in these fantastic places. A real inclusive ethos is created.

What is tone deaf is trying to criminalise a black woman, and make it out like she is some sort of crook, when she has never stolen anything before.

All these questions into her finances are uncomfortable, as no one
else gets this kind of questioning.

It reminds me of how black people are always complaining about being hounded, followed in shops and assumed to be criminals.

Also very patronising to say they should be supporting this and that charity instead. They can support whatever charity they want, just like every body else in the world.

Even the rags cannot get away from the fact that H&M are supported by the younger generation and minorities. Good on them for raising awareness for a charity, the charity will gain from the publicity.
