Meg and Harry supporting race and mental health charities in UK

Brilliant to hear this. They have approached three charities in UK including Mind and a charity to increase diversity in the media and press.

Great, doing good based on their experiences.

Hmm. Two people who couldn't work out how to get help for the alleged issues the wife had...

"People who don't know how to call a doctor"
"The alleged issues"
Wow ...

ListeningQuietly · 14/03/2021 15:38

Interesting,
I just tried to look up the accounts of the Obama Foundation.
www.obama.org/wp-content/uploads/OF-2019-Annual-Report.pdf
A bit poor compared with the requirements of the UK's Charity Commission.

No wonder Meghan and Harry want to donate from the land of the lack of accountability.

Sprining · 14/03/2021 15:49

@Wearywithteens

Personally I’d question the discernment of any UK charity that wanted the patronage of two Californian based multi-millionaires who were so intent on being publicly and wilfully spiteful about the RF.
Hmm.. I wonder if there is a racial divide here.

Minorities seem to find Meghan’s treatment by the Rf and press appalling. They may be happy for H&M donating to causes that could benefit them? Although MH is a universal issue

I saw this in the Guardian www.theguardian.com/world/2021/mar/14/appalled-but-not-surprised-black-british-women-on-the-meghan-row

I think you might want to check the word “donating” , Sprining. Are they pledging cold, hard cash? Any money at all?

EsmaCannonball · 14/03/2021 15:59

Where does Archewell money come from and how much is spent on charity and causes as opposed to running costs? What are the running costs? I hope they answer these questions.

Also, why is it pronounced 'Arch-well' and not 'Arki-well'? Saying 'Arch-well' feels like you're chewing something.

Sprining · 14/03/2021 16:05

I don’t know @IrmaFayLear, good question. I hope it is a decent sum that can make a difference. And that they have oversight on how it is spent.

I pronounce their foundation as ‘arch-ee-well” why didn’t they just pick a simpler name? 😃

OP posts:
Paquerette · 14/03/2021 16:09

@satishoused

I thought Harry already worked with MH charities? Didn't he even start his own with William? That's why I was so surprised that Megan was denied MH support, Harry "didn't know what to do", felt "ashamed" and didn't move heaven and earth to get urgent MH support for his suicidal, pregnant wife.
I agree. It all sounds a bit ridiculous.

According to their old Sussex Royal website, Harry has spent 18 months working on a mental health series for AppleTV, which he has co-created and executive produced with Oprah Winfrey. I wonder if their little interview was also co-created and executive produced by Harry and Oprah?

USA Transparency rules on Foundations are pretty limited
here is all we are allowed to know about Archewell

M&H's PR firm bounce from one bad decision to another. I've never seen a PR firm consistently get it wrong time and again.

I'm assuming they are US based, and working to their US experience and that's the reason, outside of the US, they appear so out of touch.

Or they are just very shit at what they do.

MiaowMiaow99 · 14/03/2021 16:34

Even the statement the Duke and Duchess’s organisation, announced it would be offering support to Mind, Colour of Change, the PressPad Charitable Foundation and URL Media is so vacuous. What's the support? What's their expertise? Unless is money, exactly what would M&H actually bring to the table?
Would those charities want them after they just showcased how they have no loyalty or cabinet responsibility?

dogsonlead · 14/03/2021 16:35

Exactly that @MiaowMiaow99 Any PR worth their salt in the UK could have predicted that it would go down like a shit sandwich. It says much of their inflated self regard that they thought people would lap it up. Zero appreciation for our cultural heritage, dislike of pompous navel gazing arses and liars. It was less an interview than an advertorial. US watchers might be used to being patronised and treated like idiots, but it doesn't go down well here from selfish spoilt emotionally immature people who frankly should both be in therapy.

IrmaFayLear · 14/03/2021 16:42

It’s so grandiose. This week the rf did a load of “shit” (mostly virtual) visits - the old boring stuff talking to dull people about dull things.

But we’re supposed to be wowed that M&H are trumpeting that they have “approached” some charities. How much easier to talk the talk than actually having to visit mucky people in Skegness.

ListeningQuietly · 14/03/2021 16:42

Mind = UK Charity that does fine with its existing UK patron network
www.mind.org.uk/about-us/celebrity-support/our-ambassadors/

Color of Change = US based "campaign designers"
colorofchange.org/

Presspad trains journalists
presspad.co.uk/the-presspad-charitable-foundation/

URL media I have no idea what they do
url-media.com/

If H&M think that list will make a real difference to real lives they are even more out of touch than his UK family.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 14/03/2021 16:44

It like some actors (ones famous enough to pick and choose) who just seem to pick role after role or film after film that stinks. You put it down to a tin ear and a lack of instinct.

I think they have wrong stepped a few tunes - whether they have advisers who are pushing them or they are ignoring good advice I don’t know.

But I do know this - having small children is stressful. Emigrating is stressful. Buying a house is stressful (especially if you have a mortgage and no monthly income). Family feuds is stressful. More their stress levels must be off the scale. I really hope they knit tighter together in the own tiny family unit, rather than pull apart. I do mean that -those two tiny children... Maybe Doria will move in to be the adult.

DoubleTweenQueen · 14/03/2021 17:01

I suspect their 'PR' approach is self- directed. If it wasn't, it would probably be a great deal more successful.
This is pure speculation, but I do wonder if this is one reason why they parted ways with their advisors when in the UK?

It wouldn't surprise me if DoS is quite direct, focussed, and.fiercely independent, as has probably had to be to gain the success she has had this far, and putting their future direction and public portrayal in others' hands is just impossible for her to do?

EdithWeston · 14/03/2021 17:03

I've had a look at the URL media website and still don't understand what it does! Share content?

But I note that it's a 'for profit' company, though it intends to share revenue with network members.

Twinkie01 · 14/03/2021 17:04

And he was embarrassed to get his pregnant wife help. Yep great figurehead.

Sprining · 14/03/2021 17:05

I agree their stress levels must be off the scale. They have dealt with an enormous amount of changes in a short time.

I hope they are able to put things to rest, make peace with what has happened and move on with their lives in the US.

Indeed.
They could have stayed quietly at Frogmore and avoided the media
or
they could have quietly moved in with her mom in the US
but
they borrowed a huge house
and chose to do an interview with Oprah.

Well yes, even more reason perhaps not to try and take down the British monarchy as a marketing strategy for your future enterprises? It makes Philip Green look like Mother Teresa.

@Sprining your continued tone deaf posts which by the way are not how real people speak, read like the communications objectives off a PowerPoint. @mumsnet I really think this thread is not quite as it seems.

Sprining · 14/03/2021 17:16

How am I tone deaf? What tone are you looking for exactly?

I think you are being a bit offensive here Hmm

OP posts:
MiaowMiaow99 · 14/03/2021 17:20

Tone deaf = not reading the room

Which sums up M&H's total PR approach!
