My respect for the Duchess has just shot up. For a Royal, this is pretty bold and brave.

Not forgetting other women - if you attended the vigil tonight, thank you for sticking up for women's rights. Let's hope this is an opportunity for the Met Police to review and change how they treat both offending officers and female victims

Good on Kate. She was low key, soberly dressed, jt looked like it was important to her. Respect.

Benjispruce2 · 13/03/2021 22:10

I’m pleased she showed her support. Gone up in my opinion of her.

Usagi12 · 13/03/2021 22:10

Good for her, thank you Kate

I am sure that Meghan, if in london, would have done something very similar, and I would have hugely respected her for it too. There is no competition in how we pay tribute to a murdered woman. Anyone can go, anyone can say: this is not good enough.

I have left london now, but a thousand times, this could have been me. The police approached me at a bus stop once when I was about 26, at two in the morning, they thought two men at the stop were behaving threateningly. I got into the police car and was given a lift home no bother, it was so kind of them and sensible too, took the chance of a crime away, or so I thought.

Imagine today, or next week - could you trust that police car? Who WILL we trust, to protect us?

I’m sure that both Meghan AND Kate would want Sarah to be remembered, and for ALL WOMEN to be safer.

Longroadahead08 · 13/03/2021 22:10

RIP Sarah, there are no words to describe how awful a crime this is. I hope the vigil has brought her family some peace in their darkest of days.

I am sure there was some sincerity in the Duchess’s visit. But let’s not be under any illusion that this hasn’t been a well thought out strategy from her Royal PR team.

RedGoldAndGreene · 13/03/2021 22:11

@icanboogieboogiewoogie

Even if it is a PR 'stunt' it is a statement. A statement I thought she was too 'vanillla' to make.
^^ This.
Krispyk · 13/03/2021 22:11

Interesting how when another 'royal' uses a global audience to air her unsubstantiated grievances people fall over themselves to defend her

Kate simply walks up to a vigil for approx 15 seconds and then blends back into the crowd and all the wokes are raging about 'publicity stunts'

Gotta love Mumsnet for the comedy if anything

Blessex · 13/03/2021 22:11

@Thewithesarehere I genuinely do not understand your post

NuclearDH · 13/03/2021 22:12

Well at least this thread demonstrates it’s not just Meghan who gets slated by the public/media.

Personally I don’t think it was a PR stunt at all.

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 13/03/2021 22:12

@OneFamilyToRuleUsAll

Hate to be the one to point out the obvious but most people have cameras in their pockets these days and it's obvious the video was taken by a 'fan' rather than Sky News?

Right. A "fan" picture could never be arranged, for sure. I thought people knew how 'celebs' work? Or is it just Meghan who arranges every 'media opportunity' and happens to be 'caught out' doing something ordinary?

My point was that they didn't NEED to send anyone if they wanted her to be spotted - she was always gonna be. But so what. Why does her visit have to be private? Why does any woman visiting the Common today have to hide?

@JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows

Just happened to wear no mask and be photographed

Hate to be the one to point out the obvious but most people have cameras in their pockets these days and it's obvious the video was taken by a 'fan' rather than Sky News? I could be wrong - but all news stations were there anyway I understand

This post proves how gullible the British public is and how people keep getting away with putting £350 million on the side of a bus and paying billions to their friends for trace and track but get away with stripping tens of thousands of police jobs and justifying 1% pay rise for the real heroes of the last year. Hmm

@Madmarchlockdown Well said

@Ironfloor269

The royal family are really panicking now, aren't they? Trying hard to pull their socks up and pretend to be interested in the peasants to resurrect the popularity of the monarchy.. 😂

The other day, Sophie (Edward's wife) visited a community fridge in a village in Surrey...!

As she has been throughout at least the last year:

There's plenty to criticise the RF for without having to resort to speaking rubbish.

And if Meghan had the people here slamming Kate would be saying how wonderful it is Meghan had gone and how it shows she really cares about issues. This is about women supporting women.
JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 13/03/2021 22:14

@Thewithesarehere what are you actually going on about now?

OP posts:
Thewithesarehere · 13/03/2021 22:14

For a woman receiving security on tax payer expense, she should really have stayed away.
I am quite fucked off with this lot now.

Like I said earlier, all women are equal but some are more equal than others.

You know EXACTLY what I am going on about.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 13/03/2021 22:15

all the wokes are raging about 'publicity stunts' Piers is that you?

AirBubbleMe · 13/03/2021 22:15

@WaggishDancer

PR stunt or not, she brought publicity to and support which is a good thing. I’d applaud anyone doing the same thing.
Disagree. Palace sought to hijack tragedy for its own gain. Despicable. The vigil was a big story and was used by palace to advance team Kate. I am neither for or against KM or MM but I am against cynical exploitation.
Backstreetsbackalrightdadada · 13/03/2021 22:15

Good on her. I’m not a royal but we don’t know her experiences and it helped show support for a bloody good cause. At a time when idiots were posting horrible messages on the live feed as well. It affects all women - and their loved ones - so whatever helps get the message across.

debbrianna · 13/03/2021 22:15

I think this great. It shows change and having a voice. The royals need to be this involved. This is every woman's issue.
