My respect for the Duchess has just shot up. For a Royal, this is pretty bold and brave.

Not forgetting other women - if you attended the vigil tonight, thank you for sticking up for women's rights. Let's hope this is an opportunity for the Met Police to review and change how they treat both offending officers and female victims

@Trumplosttheelection

She didn't need a mask to walk on the common. I don't know why people doubt her motives. She and her sister attended university and lived and worked in London for years. Their experience will be like every other woman's. And Kate has a daughter now too. No wonder that she is impacted by this tragedy.
This^^

Thanks for showing that you’re one of us Kate

Backstreetsbackalrightdadada · 13/03/2021 22:16

AirBubbleMe how do you know this? Or do you suspect this?

I was really shocked that boris other half Carrie was a sexual assault victim of a very high profile case (the taxi driver).

We need women across the board to show support. This affects all of us.

goodbyestranger · 13/03/2021 22:17

Presumably not wearing a mask so that she'd be recognised (apols if that's already been said). PR stunt absolutely.

I lit a candle for Sarah. I lived in London for many years and have been scared/followed/verbally abused.

This thread highlights why women will never 'win' the battle for safety. Why are people on here arguing over another woman's right to show compassion - whether a PR stunt or not it will highlight the cause throughout the world. We need to support each other not bitch and backstab women who don't live their lives exactly as we want them too.

I think the Duchess did a good thing - this thread just shows that what the other duchess said rings true. I wonder what the papers will say?

lunarlife · 13/03/2021 22:17

I can't believe that as women, we are going to create an artificial conflict between two women we actually don't know that much about.
Because one of them commemorated the brutal murder of another young woman.

Seriously we have got to be capable of behaving better than this.

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 13/03/2021 22:18

You know EXACTLY what I am going on about.

Actually I don't. At all.

@HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee

all the wokes are raging about 'publicity stunts' Piers is that you?
No, his PA, he's too busy negotiating his new contract to respond
Teenageromance · 13/03/2021 22:18

Genuine question - why didn’t Kate have a mask on?

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 13/03/2021 22:18

Thanks for showing that you’re one of us Kate ⬅️NO
She’s not one of us,she doesn’t represent me
I’m not represented by a moribund archaic institution

Blessex · 13/03/2021 22:18

@Pieceofpurplesky agree. It is genuinely depressing to witness the vitriol against other women on a woman’s site. No wonder we never win.

What, Worboys? I didn't know that!

@Teenageromance genuine answer. Because it is not law outdoors

loopeydoopey · 13/03/2021 22:19

Actually I said I would not judge the Duchess of Cambridge but she has done a good thing here, no doubt.

goodbyestranger · 13/03/2021 22:19

Oops just posted without reading.

But I mean come on, they've been wearing facemasks everywhere outside recently so why not today? It's so blatant.

megletsecond · 13/03/2021 22:19

If she wore a mask people wouldn't believe it was her. She wanted to make it quite clear who she stood with and pay her respects.

PicsInRed · 13/03/2021 22:20

This is about women supporting women.

Marvellous. Perhaps she'll crack on fronting up a large, national fundraising effort for women's refuges then? And for charitable domestic violence services, presently starved of funds? Or assist in raising national awareness about domestic and sexual violence and fronting an education programme? You know, actually advocating for women?

No? Ah.

OneFamilyToRuleUsAll · 13/03/2021 22:20

Why does her visit have to be private? Why does any woman visiting the Common today have to hide?

Never said it had to be private or anyone had to hide. That's the point, Kate's visit could never be private because of who she is and that's the reality. No issues with that. If you read my posts, you'd see it's not so much about it being a PR stunt or not (It likely is anyway) but about people acting like she doesn't think anyone would notice her if she blends in. Fgs, how wouldn't anyone notice her unless she and her security detail have invisible cloaks on?

Thewithesarehere · 13/03/2021 22:21

@Teenageromance

Genuine question - why didn’t Kate have a mask on?
Becuase then no one would have recognised her. FFS, a family protecting Andrew sends one of their women, who received tax payer funded security by the way for this trip, to the vigil of a woman who died because the Met police is woefully short of resources now. The irony of it! They really should have stayed away. Hmm
SakuraEdenSwan1 · 13/03/2021 22:21

@JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows

They won't though, because they're misogynist to the core.

Agree. They can deny it all they like, and they do, but any woman anywhere who's called the police after an incident of DV will probably tell you there's institutional misogyny in the Police

In my own personal experience dealing with my ex, it was the female police officers who treat me appallingly, even with 2 court orders in place including a Non Mol order which he breached 4 times, not once did they arrest him, took 2 weeks to even come out and speak to me. I lost my respect for the Police through this. They were horrific in my case.
Coffeeandcocopops · 13/03/2021 22:21

So what if it’s a PR stunt.

Good on her for going. She didn’t have too.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 13/03/2021 22:22

Not hateful in least. She wasn’t roughly handled put in a prone position and cuffed
Don’t get all golly gosh about this

Janaih · 13/03/2021 22:22

Genuine question - why didn’t Kate have a mask on?

Because she was outside perhaps?
I'm touched that she took the time to pay her respects. Thankyou Kate .

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 13/03/2021 22:22

@PicsInRed for someone who fiercely defends MM and her actions here on MN I'm surprised you have so much vitriol for KM attending a tribute of a murdered woman. they're not enemies, you do know this? There are no sides to take here.
