My respect for the Duchess has just shot up. For a Royal, this is pretty bold and brave.

Not forgetting other women - if you attended the vigil tonight, thank you for sticking up for women's rights. Let's hope this is an opportunity for the Met Police to review and change how they treat both offending officers and female victims

I am going to sign off now. I am very emotional today having been there. To witness women sniping at other women. Pitting women against each other. How the hell are we going to be safe of all the time we are sniping and bitching and killing each other. Have some respect for Sarah. Give other women the benefit of the doubt. It’s toxic. Night

@JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows

Yes awful to film her, but I'm sure there'd have been someone in the distance somewhere acting as a protector.
I’m sure the Palace will have been counting on someone seeing and filming her. If she was truly incognito she would have been wearing a mask like most people were. She could have gone and paid her respects without being seen or recognised if she’d wanted. After the shit show from America recently I would imagine they’ll be taking every opportunity to appear relatable, empathetic etc etc.
loopeydoopey · 13/03/2021 22:03

RIP Sarah.

RIP Sarah. I did not light a candle or shine a torch. I am glad others.
Such is my part of London and the hours that my husband works meaning I am often at night, well most nights, at home with the children and I did not want to advertise the fact. Ridiculous I know but I didn't want to bring attention to just me and the children being home.

I am not going to judge the Duchess of Cambridge paying her respects.

I imagine if the Palace said "pop along Kate it will be up support for us" she would hardly have gone "FFS what a drag do I have to". Whatever the reason for the visit I believe her intentions were genuine.

And how do any of you lot know if she's ever paid personal tribute to anyone before?! Do you live with her. Or Maybe she did and didn't get snapped?

PR stunt or not, she brought publicity to and support which is a good thing. I’d applaud anyone doing the same thing.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 13/03/2021 22:04

It seems she was there in a private capacity, so good for her. ⬅️What a risible statement
She’s royal family,there is no spontaneity, no private capacity when you’re the firm
They’re worried about bad pr following Oprah interview. Royals they’d turn up at opening of an envelope at the moment

loveyouradvice · 13/03/2021 22:04

Seriously powerful and yes, brave.

It is surprisingly political to do this

And has anyone else of significance done this?

I'm a Republican but my respect for Kate and what she stands for has shot up

CantSayJack · 13/03/2021 22:04

Kate trying to save face here, she did this to raise her profile which stinks.

MorePotatoSalad · 13/03/2021 22:04

I disagree, I think she would have been recognised in a mask. I think showing her face is positive, whether you like it or not PR can be positive for a cause. And it needs raising awareness of.

Photographers from the Sun and Reuters were there all day

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 13/03/2021 22:06

Just happened to wear no mask and be photographed

Hate to be the one to point out the obvious but most people have cameras in their pockets these days and it's obvious the video was taken by a 'fan' rather than Sky News? I could be wrong - but all news stations were there anyway I understand

@TowandaForever

If it wasn't a pr thing why was she not wearing a mask?
I'd argue the opposite - if it was PR, why wasn't she wearing a mask?

You need to change the heading of the thread as it is not true.

Perhaps she can speak out about VAWG, the defunding of refuges etc?

thenightsky · 13/03/2021 22:07

Masks outdoors have never been needed. Good for her to appear without one.

Cocolapew · 13/03/2021 22:08

Good for her.
A pp mentioned Sophie went to a community fridge the other day, she has been doing this throughout the last year.

Xenia · 13/03/2021 22:09

Masks outdoors are not required by law in England and most people do not wear them.

dragonsmoke · 13/03/2021 22:09

@Mayormaynothavehadit

Oh fgs stop with mentioning Meghan, it's NOT about her. I'm really glad the Duchess went today, she was dressed in a very understated way and looked very sombre just like everyone else there I would imagine. Maybe the bit of film was taken innocently initially and then the phone owner realised who it was and carried on filming for a few seconds more. Good on her for going and paying her respects. I'm definitely sure there are days when she feels scared too being in such a high profile position.
@Mayormaynothavehadit well said. That's exactly how I felt watching it.
