My respect for the Duchess has just shot up. For a Royal, this is pretty bold and brave.

Not forgetting other women - if you attended the vigil tonight, thank you for sticking up for women's rights. Let's hope this is an opportunity for the Met Police to review and change how they treat both offending officers and female victims

@Blessex

In the end. Women cannot win can they.
Well said
petitepeach · 13/03/2021 21:53

Wow some really unnecessary snide comments....
I’m glad she went... thinking about her poor family

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 13/03/2021 21:53

The other day, Sophie (Edward's wife) visited a community fridge in a village in Surrey...!

I'm, that's what full time working Royals do. I imagine I'd had been months in the planning, as they always are.

I don't agree it was a PR stunt - this murder has really polarised people's views and there are too many fragile male egos furious that women are once again talking about male on female violence. She will get heaps of criticism from the strong anti-women crowd.

@Thewithesarehere

Imagine the vitriol if it was MM. She would be called attention seeking and using the murder of a girl for publicity.
Is it bow a requirement what be all "what about the Meghanz" on every Kate thread?! What has MM got to do with it?

What you mean like some on here are doing re. Kate Thewithesarehare ?

DoubleTweenQueen · 13/03/2021 21:55

'fan club members'!

Nuitsdesetoiles · 13/03/2021 21:55

@Benjispruce2

Good for her. I shone my torch tonight. No others n my street. Sad Sad.
Yes I lit a candle on the doorstep. Just me on the street though. Sad

This has to stop, it’s not a war between Kate and Meghan, a woman died, any woman can pay her respects. Stop attacking.

How can women ever expect respect, safety, when they attack each other like this? Over something like this?

Thewithesarehere · 13/03/2021 21:57

@Starseeking

If this wasn't a PR stunt, she'd have worn a mask...then she'd really have gone unnoticed.
Yup. Imagine the vitriol if it was MM. She would be called attention seeking and would blamed if using a murder for a photo opportunity, with no mask etc. Hmm

I'm not a huge fan of the RF, but am laughing at all the posters arguing "She wasn't wearing a mask, making it obvious she wanted to be recognised and photographed."

It's a mask ffs not an invisibility cloak! She is one of the most recognisable women in the UK, and nearly all of her past public appearances in the last year have been with a mask on, plus she clearly had people (probably not so discreetly) filming her plus security, even if they were plain clothed - I'm pretty sure she would have been recognised either way!

PeterRabbitsLuckyFoot · 13/03/2021 21:57

I think it’s great that she went, but clearly a PR move. Why wasn’t she wearing a facemask? Almost everyone in the pictures are wearing them, so it was clearly necessary. She wears them to events, so obviously doesn’t have an issue wearing one. She probably wouldn’t have been recognised if she had a mask on

LazyDaisy22 · 13/03/2021 21:58

I lit a candle on my doorstep too and thought of Sarah. I’m no great fan of the Royal family but was so pleased to see Kate visit Clapham today.

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 13/03/2021 21:58

Lit a candle here too. If I was in London I'd have gone to the vigil, ban or no ban

Actually I thought she looked pretty upset. I was glad she went and agree my respect for her went up a lot that she was there. We have all been affected by this crime.

daisypond · 13/03/2021 21:59

I was there at about lunchtime. There were photographers there even then.

It’s hypocrisy to not point out the duplicity and overt/covert racism all around us.

peepholepringle · 13/03/2021 22:00

Why on earth are people discussing Meghan Markle on this thread? This has nothing to do with her. I find it odd that people, typically those who usually complain about her being hounded, keep bringing her up at any given opportunity.

CorianderBee · 13/03/2021 22:01

@rainbowfairydust

I was shocked she went, says alot about her following her own mind. I am also disgusted that someone who was there to pay their respects, felt the need to film her!
Like a new palate photographer, we went at about 5pm and there were multiple professional photographers getting shots of people/flowers/signs etc
AirBubbleMe · 13/03/2021 22:01

I didn't read it that way. It's more about how the palace has set up the MM v KM dynamic to divert attention from big issues ie. its attachment to racism and misogyny. Hello Prince Andrew is involved in sex trafficking.
Sending Kate was extremely cynical. You can't tell me she has wee ideas she is allowed to act upon, this was arranged for the sole purpose of palace PR.

CorianderBee · 13/03/2021 22:01

Likely a newspaper photographer*

Sorry no idea why it autoc'd that

Thewithesarehere · 13/03/2021 22:02

Thing is if you don’t want to publicise, you would wear a mask.

LunaTheCat · 13/03/2021 22:02

Incredibly well said and to the point.
Sprining · 13/03/2021 22:02

@CeibaTree

At first I though it was really touching and admirable that she went, but thinking about it, she has never been seen paying respects to any other female murder victims - Bibaa Henry and Nicole Smallman for example. So a not very subtle PR move for sure.
Yes.

A palace PR move to show they are ‘with the people’

Just happened to wear no mask and be photographed 🙄

Now we have riots and violence.

Far better to have a private vigil and a concrete set of actions to help women feel safer on the streets. Or maybe that is too much work for Kate
